Fucking colored chalk.

I have no idea what you're trying to say.
OC is... good?

They're saying their original concepts are so awful they should just stick to drawing established characters because they'll never be successful on their own merit.

>he only hangs around an artist for one specific source of content

If you don't do this for most artists in your life you're weird.

>artists moves into a shit fandom

OP means he only wants to see fan art of stuff he likes

they shouldn't of popularized themselves with other peoples content to begin with

Porn artist with OC wastes all their time on stupid Q&A and nonsense instead of drawing porn.

>artist becomes more talented but his drawings become less appealing

I'm fine with that.
I come for the fanart, stay to see where the artist goes.
One of my favorite experiences is finding a really good piece of fanart made ages ago, only to discover that the artist is still active and has vastly improved since they made that piece.

>artist becomes furry

>Artist writes a webcomic
>There is direct correlation between lenghty breaks /hiatuses and foisting merchandise

OC could be good but most don't do shit with it. They just have this vague ideas of world building, cliched filled characters, and instead of making a webcomic about them and creating a story, they just keep making quirky character profiles and putting them on unconnected situations, basically making fanart of their own characters.

Oh, this is so fucking true.

Making fanart of one's own characters. Wouldn't that be the artistic equivalent of masturbating your own clone?

>artist makes a patreon and all their drawings are patreon only from now on
bitch give me the free art back

yes at least make an AU

If you want fanart so bad then draw it yourself, mate.

Yes. That's why they cream themselves when other people make fanart of their OCs, now someone else is wanking them off.

Forgot to add that you know the artist don't give a shit because none of their OCs have a clear goal to strive for, but they make a detailed chart/essay about their relationships with one another.

>artist stop doing their job

>artist removes all of their old drawings from the internet and you don't have all of them saved

>FAN art
>of your own characters

I don't think you know what fanart is.

>artist keeps remaking their past works over and over again

does anyone in this thread even draw?

>their OCs are sfw only

>artist becomes more talented but his drawings become less appealing
Are there any examples of this?
Usually for me it's either the artist turn to shit, stop posting altogether/quit or if they get better/doesn't turn to shit after a while, the artist stop posting fanarts/drawings altogether and start putting previews for official shit, like vidya stuff or some animation promo.

It's only fine if they do smut/cheesecake.

Otherwise it's just trash. OH ONE DAY I WILL TOTALLY MAKE A WEBCOMIC OF MY NOT MONSTER HUNTER UNIVERSE I SWEAR HAHA HERE'S CHARACTER NUMBER 9000

>When an artist you like turns out to be a massive asshole to people and you can no longer divorce them from their work anymore

>artist you love finally makes a Patreon so you can support more of the content you want to see
>they close it in less than a month

To be fair, you could make simplistic slice-of-life garbage if your characters have no goal.

why have you betrayed us blue bear guy

I do, and I have OC shit that I've posted once, maybe thrice, in a gallery of 100+ uploads.

>artist begins circlejerking OCs with other artists
Bonus points: Discord is involved

Not that user. For me, an example would be an artist getting so caught up in the technical details and complexities he forgets to make an image look good.

Example, Chalo, the artist for Las Lindas, used to have a cute and colorful style around 2007. But then he started using softer, gradient shadows that were much darker and his women started having amoebic curves. It got more complex, but it got less pretty to look at. And if you're drawing cheesecake, that shit is a sin.

Read the whole post user. They aren't telling a story or crafting a fictional world, they are just making characters mashing together traits they like, and then call them their own characters, who have no character, only quirks.

They end up drawing them over and over in different situations, but with no narrative structure. So yes, they are making fanart of their own characters because that's all they know how to do.

>OH ONE DAY I WILL TOTALLY MAKE A WEBCOMIC OF MY NOT MONSTER HUNTER UNIVERSE I SWEAR HAHA HERE'S CHARACTER NUMBER 9000
wait what

>What is legoman
His perspectives, lines etc are on point, but the drawings now feel so goddamn soulless

>artist starts doing commissions
>suddenly it's nothing but furry OCs and none of the content that drew you to them in the first place

I know like four artists who all do knock off monster hunter things and swear the above every time. Tenk paid a grand to get his gay monster hunter faction in some indie game so I guess that's more than the rest can say but it's still just drawing character profiles and weapons and swearing to the heavens it'll be made into something one day but we all know they never will.

Why something so specific as Monster Hunter?

Every motherfucker with OCs swears they're going to make a comic and never do.

>Artist's fanart AND OC stuff are both good

Ah thanks, that clears up things.
Before you explained that I was thinking Masamune Shirow as an example.

and you haven't even made an OC yet you lazy piece of shit

>wanting to make an OC
>ever

>the opposite

>artist never had a place where they dumped their art and only posted them on obscure forums and oekaki's.
>makes tumblr
>never does anything with it.

so you rather draw fanart for the rest of your life?

ah no wait you don't draw aything at all

>AND have good stories.
Is there ANY artist/writer that fits this?

Because it's a simple setting. There's like ten thousand manga that do the same thing (and if you want to get technical a lot of them stem from older JRPG games) and they're either stealing from them or just going directly from Monhun shit.

I guess deep down it's that level of "creative" and autistic categorizing that people love. You design ten thousand monsters and characters and rank them into orderly little "tiers" and shit like that.

The idea of "people go out and hunt monsters" is super broad but if you looked at any of these things you'd just go "oh that's monster hunter" or in the case of jp shit 50% of the time you'd go "oh that's dragon quest".

>shitty OC fanart in a nutshell

:^)

>they get worse

I can think of one

Weaver

>artist starts becoming more popular and starts bullying you

you personally?

>They do this shit multiple times

Does this thread count for most artist from 90's - 2000's?

>Artist rarely talks to non-artists

But original content is good. People who only do fan art are nothing but leeches with no creativity whatsoever.

If by OC you meant deviantart original character autism then yeah, maybe they should stick to fan art.

There are so many lazily made OCs out there, but if they can be developed and written well, then I can give them a chance, even if they are bound to a fandom.

What I really don't like is OCs that are pushed with no context other than pumping the ego/delusions of the creator. A good OC has their audience in mind.

Makes sense. Creating your own world is hard, and having it be ordered on what is essentially a spreadsheet requires the least amount of imagination.

As someone who has written stories, creating a world with a few basic descriptors is easy. Creating a coherent world with an engaging story is where you separate the OC faggots from the authors.

>artist makes art of your favourite fetish
>makes a Patreon
>Patreon supporters request only generic porn instead of what you liked

That's a bit harsh considering most of what you think as "original" can be traced back to various influences
Originality is dead but good stories are alive and well

what the hell ever happened to subtank anyway

>artist changes their tumblr url every month or so without leaving links behind and you are forced to make your own tumblr only to follow them. They eventually quit their art

I sometimes wonder what happened to her.

>Damn those normies paying for stuff and don't liking ovi inflate foot fetish crabs

She told you multiple times that she's not an artist and you shouldn't stalk her anymore

so what.
is an artist not allowed to imagine, to create something of their own?

Fuck no.

the whole point of "fan" art is that it is art of something drawn by a fan of that thing, not drawn by the creator him/herself. it doesn't matter what you personally think of the character and whether or not they have "no character".

Never talked to or messaged her to be honest. She always had that crazy vibe to her anyways. I only followed for the porn.

When I follow an artist its because I like their fanart, not because I give a fuck about their special snowflake characters.

There's nothing wrong with original content as long as it's good/they make something good with it

I never said that
But most of what people claim is original is just something done before, but with a different name slapped on it

People shouldn't be afraid to take the best aspects of their favorite media and make something great from it

>monster tiers and shit
I thought it was simple: Fuck monsters shit up and hope your friends don't fail you. Rinse and repeat until you have enough wardrobes for fashion show.

I like writing via RP, and the others who write have so many ideas, but no direction, which I handle.

I gotta say, yeah its tough making it all coherent, and there are definitely dips and just plain bad writing. But it can be done.

Are you mentally handicapped? I don't meant it literally. Do you need similes and metaphors explained to you as well?

>fan artist/writer make OCs
>fan artist/writer got hired and put in said OCs while also still make new ones

Weaver is great, fuck the haters.

never change, Sup Forums.

In all honesty, to be a writer you have to have some basic knowledge of sociology and psychology, because all stories revolve around people and the societies they live in. Once you figure out those two, the plot will eventually come on its own and you'll get a direction. At that point you just need to have written a lot and read a lot to know what to do next.

If you're not gonna make a comic out of your OCs then what's the point of making them

Ego stroking.

are you saying ms hoover needs more lewds?

I agree

>Female artist has cute girl OCs
>She keeps shoehorning the male ones in

To get praise, obviously. Why do you think Aaron Diaz never stops reimagining other people's characters?

>artist starts shipping their OC with another artist's OC
It's fucking weird.

>female artist draws cute girls
>all she draws is yaoi

>calls something fanart

>gets mad when people think you actually mean it's fanart

i think you're the slow one here user.

CN is fucked with these shitty cartoons that cater to shitty SJWs and fat kids.

>artist ships their OCs with characters from established franchises

I do, but all I have is a deviantart account I barely use.

That's because they finally got popular enough. It's called a bait-and-switch.

>female artist can draw cute girls doing cute things
>all she draws is MILF smut
I'm not complaining, but...

>artist draws a lot of gay shit
>starts a comic about their gay OCs
>it's pretty good

(You)
