They were set up for writing/producing in 12-episode blocks and SciFi insisted on a full season with more stand-alone episodes. Threw off their process and forced a bunch of shitty, dead-end bottle episodes.
OTOH, after the slog of seasons 3 & 4.1 I can well believe that no-one wanted to see the inside of a spaceship ever again.

Battlestar Galactica is the only show I've ever seen where I've seen all episodes except the last one.
The first two seasons were fucking ace. Then from Season 3 and onwards it was absolute shit. Absolute melodramatic soapy shit, with completely uninteresting spiritual overtones.
I gave two episodes before the finale. 6 months later I decided to give them a chance again... But after watching one more episode I just gave up for good.
