Ok, I need an opinion on my villain.

He's not strong, average intelligence, not really charismatic. He's not special at all as far as you're aware. For whatever reason though the main bad guys just follow his commands blindly. Is this lame?

not as long as you have an answer to the question everyone will ask: why are they following him
i mean look at Ludo

>not as long as you have an answer to the question everyone will ask
Oh, there's a reason. it just doesn't get revealed until the end.

then... make sure you include hints

Not sure if there's hints. in the context of the story and his overall goals the twist makes perfect sense in hind sight

then I guess just deal with the issue all "it'll be a fun twist in the end" authors do, having people not get it until then. It probably won't be that bad.

bump

How difficult is it to juggle two comics at once? I'm considering starting another comic in b/w so I can update faster but I don't know if it would be too stressful since I'm already drawing a full-color comic.

how badly do you need to tell that second story, it can't wait?
i mean, adrian ramos did it, he had like four comics at once, and then he had a babby and we havent heard from him since

Well I mainly want to get it started because my current comic is going to take me a couple of years to finish up, and I just want to get more comics under my belt to improve my story telling skills.

Hey what's a good font for a comic that someone here has actually used?

I use my own font. I like it, and the one used in metalocalypse, too.

Making your own font can be troublesome but very convenient.

then logically shouldn't you do them one at a time to ensure maximum have-skill comic-make correlation?

As listed in the "Scrub Authors GOODIE Bag" in the 2nd post, Blambot.com has free fonts, designed by a professional letterer, that are intended for use in comics.

I used to use Mighty Zeo 2.0, though it has very distinctive looking "Z"s. Other fonts may be more suitable for your particular strip.

Before I made my own font, I used something from dafont. I think it was called "mangastrip" or something. Dafont has very good comic fonts.

Or could go nuts and go all irony and shit and use comic sans.

Also posting more WIP. I feel like my panelling is a bit stiff. How's got some advice on make dynamic panels?

...

...

what's the problem with my lettering exactly?

>setting is a world populated by robots
>want to give them some societal issues to generate conflict
>can't think of anything because the vast majority of real life sociopolitical issues are based on things rather divorced from logic
People with brains based on hard numbers don't have irrational prejudices. They can only hate people based on stuff the individual has actually done, unlike real life where these issues are almost always focused on groups. Wat do?

surely your robots arent completely cold and logical or the comic would be boring regardless of the lack of conflict. i can timagine that anything would even motivate them to do anything ever. a world of robots would just sit still and do nothing

There was a neat videogame I saw recently where one robot threatened to give another a poor rating online if he didnt finish a task he was contracted to do in time, even though the time it took was completely out of his hands and based on luck. Cold logic doesn't account for no-fault failure of actions that were based on undeserved optimism

Well yes, they have emotions and personalities, obviously, but it's rather pointless to have non-human characters who still behave like humans. So I wanted to subtly push the logical thinking angle, but also not make them Vulcans. It has proven a might tricky.

Hm. Emphasizing the role of their internet equivalent could help. They do have their online devices installed in their heads after all. Perhaps privacy could be much more precious in a world where keeping secrets is nigh impossible.

How about Caste prejudice? For example, intellectuals see themselves as superior in programming and function to simple manual construction units.

If they were totally cold and logical, they'd simply accept the different functions and abilities of different kinds of robot as no big deal, as one is simply not designed to do the job of another.

A robot's role and function is strictly defined from the point of manufacture, and for an individual to seek to change their role (by replacing and upgrading their components), should be seen as a transgression.

If the robot society's goal was to expand their sphere of influence, through exploration and acquiring resources, that could be motivation enough to be active.

I got one for ya.

>Robots are part of a terraforming expedition sent by Humanity over 500 years ago
>After completing their initial 50 year terraforming mission their scheduled rendezvous with Earth Colonists never happened
>Central AI regulating all the robots now has to keep going not knowing what to do.

Sorry, rest didn't take for some reason

>Differences in robot "society" are the result of corrupted programs that have gone on 950 years longer than intended

how's this comic strip I made

if you have more time work on the story you already have or just make a huge buffer

wait, is vincent talking in panel 2?

yea

My first try.

okay somehow it just made mroe sense in my head if one says something gross and then the other barfs, instead of the same one

not only is that painfully true, despite the stick figures you've drawn some really good sitting poses there

nah man Vincent just throws up on his own

hmm I dunno man, it's not very believable.

Finally found a good drawing app that doesn't suck. Now if only I could catch up to it and not suck at drawing.

First page tomorrow, maybe. Probably.

I used Laffayette Comic Pro when I did mine. Just Google it, can't remember the exact site, but it's free for any kind of use.

And I have something at least interesting to show:

>In the Futuristic Version of a Earth-Like Planet known as Neo-Earth Delta VIII, in which is inhabited with various species of Aliens, ranging in sizes, nevertheless the story primarily focus on the picture that I have provided on his point of view perspective throughout this city of Eolas Prime, sometime it will shift to another character to get their point of view and not always focus on Neo-Earth Delta VIII for world building purposes, it will be a Scifi Action/Comedy, but focusing more on the Action.

>app
why not use a program? There's loads of those, and they're a lot easier to pirate.. and (aside from current versions of photoshop) if you want to pay, you only have to pay once.

I would certainly read about an alien race that covers itself entirely in knittingwork
it doesn't sound like you have much beyond that though

Oh I have more, but I don't want to spoil it

>have 51 pages of ideas of various things
>still haven't improved
pain

hmm maybe it's time to copy some gesture references. that way when you start placing the elbows you'll have something to go to instead of frustratedly placing elbows wherever
you can do it, man. your ideas will have drawings behind them

why aren't there more comics about crabs and their funtime adventures in the shallows and shorelines?

Question only loosely-related to webcomics, but what's the best site to use if I want to draw lewds on the side?

My stuff already gets a bit softcore/lewd at times, but I want somewhere that I can go crazy, like shota and Nintendo R34 crazy, shit that would get banned on Tumblr.

Should I just use Pixiv? I don't want to get in trouble for drawing porn of underage cartoon characters.

any host that cares will say so when you sign up. few do, as long as you check the right boxes, which tells filters and such not to allow your site
doesn't pixiv require pixelation or something? isnt it japanese? or am I thinking of someone else

>doesn't pixiv require pixelation or something? isnt it japanese?
It's Japanese, but I didn't think pixelation was required, I've seen lots of people post uncensored stuff, though they might just be circumventing the rules.

Do you have any examples of other sites? I get really paranoid about the thought of posting questionable stuff like shota/loli on the internet, and would really like to know my options.

Draw porn of the titty monster in panel 4.

>tfw aunt and uncle so proud that I'm making a comic
>tfw haven't actually felt supported like this in years

I love them. They'll probably never know, but when I'm feeling low, I think of them and how proud they'd be to see the completed project, and I push through it.

shit like this you need to get the attitude of bluffing your way through, and life will be fine. I would be very surprised if any hosts had specific outlines of which adult material they accept and which they don't.

I'm going to post this everyday until there's an update for this month.

A boy falls in love with a girl. He is mysteriously gifted with her phone number. He calls her and finds out that she likes him as well. But the next day, she doesn't remember the confession. The girl he called is not the same girl he fell in love with. In fact, she doesn’t exist in this universe at all. She is the girl’s alternate universe counterpart, who likes his own alternate self. Hijinks ensue as the two tell each other their darkest secrets to conquer the hearts of their other selves.

See: webtoons.com/en/challenge/keit-ai/list?title_no=36825

>I would be very surprised if any hosts had specific outlines of which adult material they accept and which they don't.
Well I know for a fact I've heard of Tumblr deleting stuff like shota/loli, (just deleting porn randomly in general, really. Sometimes people don't even know why,) and have seen artists move to sites like Pixiv and Soup.io because of Tumblr's take-downs.

I just don't know where I should go. I want a site that won't crack down on certain content but I also want a site that's not too sketchy or weird to invite readers to that might be interested in lewder content.

...

Already a thing.

It's Owlturd so it's probably unfunny, but just out of curiosity; What's the original version of this page?

okay but that's tumblr. that's not a webcomic host
let' sput it this way, any host that has existed prior to 2008 has not thought to make any kind of specification about 'problematic content that offends certain people'. it either uniformly bans adult content or allows it.

stop spamming this good webcomic and giving it a bad reputation.
also, it DID update.
and you cut it out too

...

>Keit-ai

>the same

CAN'T DEFY THE KEIT-AI!

Oh, sorry, I should've been more specific. I'm not necesarily talking about lewd webcomics, just lewd art in general, some of it tying in with my webcomics and perhaps SOME of it being in the form of comics, but not all of it. That's why I said it's only loosely-related.

And I find it hard to believe that you guys think most sites that allow adult content will just up and allow everything. Even Paheal tries to encourage reporting underage characters.

Better than his stupid angsty LEL SO RELATABLE DEPRESSION STUFF XD comics, at least.

is it this guy?

I feel like I'm never gonna get to that point when i can draw things just from memory, I still have to get a visual (sometimes) before i feel comfortable trying to draw it.

(anyone else have that trouble...) I still have to practice drawing the thing I find difficulty drawing. like skulls... AND GODDAMN IS IT HARD TO DRAW A SKULL FROM BELOW!

Hopefully I'll get to the point where I can practice AND practice AND practice everyday. THEN have mental references of my own and just draw it just like that.

How's everyone doing?

Robots are not "logical," at least not by our reasoning. What's the logic in turning all matter into paperclips?

wiki.lesswrong.com/wiki/Paperclip_maximizer#Description

paheal was bullied into it by advertisers, and put up a big message from the guy that runs it saying that he's completely against censorship and would rather leave everything even though he dislikes that kinda art to begin with, but has been forced to at least pay lipservice to it
in actuality only toddlercon is banned, so... go nuts
for general art posting yeah you're kinda fucked. you'll have to just put up with having multiple sites. paheal doesn't allow pure OC for example, or anything that's not quite porny enough to qualify as porn. I've actually noticed there's almost no place to post not-porn-nothing's-showing-but-still-some-idiot-will-report-it art of 'underage' characters. You're stick with various booru for that kinda thing

m8, you do realize you're way ahead of most of us, right? I feel for you, but you need to start being proud of your art right this minute buster brown town rolo tony. You just drew a skull we'd all be incredibly proud to have drawn
nobody cares that the teeth in the main skull aren't drawn with perspective in mind, or that the one in profile has too much of a space between the nose and mouth, we're focused on how you did something this great and that bottom left one even appears to have referenced a Bubble

The perspectives off crap! Now I'm gonna be up all night practicing to get this right...

I wonder if professional artist deal with this... even if it is practice.

Thanks for the critique.

it's not so much the perspective, it's like, yknow.. all the teeth look kinda uniform width even though there's front and side ones. then again a lot of people have teeth that narrow in front

but anyway we're all where we are. I just realized I can freehand most of a perfect circle most of the time! the terminal 60-90 degree arc is never right, but that's easy to fix

doing thumbnails right now before i actually sketch everything. holy FUCK is planning out your paneling hard like holy shit

you might be overthinking it, but I know for a fact I underthink it, so.. one or the other of us can learn something by you elaborating on what part's givin you fits. Is it deciding which angle works best? that kind of thing? I find I can guide the flow of a scene well by plotting out the dialogue first. Like it does no good to be talking about how in July peas grow there, and when you say July there's snow, and you're talking about growing and she's picked them. You're onto a can of peas, a big.. dish of peas.

some concept art "flats".
trying to practice, but this had more of a focus of linework, how is this looking?

i am not a Sup Forums regular, and as a result, what i do know of comics is much more anime and manga based as I think their use of paneling and types of panel-to-panel transitions are much more stimulating than the kirby clones. but its so fucking much harder to do than american paneling. Im currently skimming through as much of the Evangelion and Black Lagoon manga as i can for inspiration.

It's pretty good, the little fella is looking okay. I feel like his torso is a little abbreviated, but it's hard to say the way he's dressed. Just generally hands don't hang down to knees, it makes a lot of poses awkward. I love the geta though. great contrast, geta on a short guy. also you are really good at drawing bags, that is a tenouttaten bag.
the other fella looks like he belongs in a different show, which isn't automatically wrong, but I think you should make a choice between the kinda different noses being portrayed in the front and profile views here

>kirby clones
the irony. You're right though, good paneling does stimulate. If you can figure out a good formula or algorithm, please let us know

i had a really good one i winged for a creative writing class in about 36 hours. had great paneling. but because there was less action and a slower pace, i didn't need to really plane the paneling out as hard. creatively using negative space and position 3 or 4 panels isn't hard, epsecially with bleed panels. but 6 or 7, wew lad
