other than three of the villains they have fought (all of whom could exist in marvel perfectly fine without them) what exactly is their appeal?

They were the precursors to what we would see in the Claremont era of X-men. A dysfunctional family that doubles up as a team. Their divergent personalities led to some pretty emotional stories namely with Ben. They are also the ones where which the basis of the Marvel universe was introduced.

They were everything that made Marvel rise and compete with big bad DC.

Fun dysfunctional family with cosmic adventures

All the weird shit that people love about Morrison books is super at home with FF

They're less a superhero team and more a group of freaky sci-fi weirdos, packaged as an old fashioned family. Like if the Brady Bunch consisted entirely of Time Lords

I don't know. Thing is the only non-asshole of the team.

>They're less a superhero team and more a group of freaky sci-fi weirdos, packaged as an old fashioned family. Like if the Brady Bunch consisted entirely of Time Lords
This is now my favorite description of the series.

FUG, now I want a Morrison F4. That would be fuego.

He already did a mini. It was subpar.

Sue

They were the heart of golden age Marvel. Avengers sucked in the beginning, X-Men sucked in the beginning, it was all about F4 back then. All the crazy cosmic stuff was happening in their books that was pretty mindblowing given the time.

Future Foundation is the fucking jam. Plus, never forget that Reed was best pals with Spiderman first.

Reminder that "they were the first X" or "the precursors to Y" is not an argument for their appeal TODAY.

From Lee to Hickman, the FF have some of the most consistently crazy stories and the four characters are really well developed. The FF have a way better good to shit ratio than the X-Men, Avengers or the Justice League.

Well they aren't have a comic anymore TODAY, so it's hard to say anything about the current state of them.

You dont need to have a currently running series in order to have a fanbase or even content to buy. There are plenty of FF collections on shelves that a person could buy, were they so inclined.

Susan should be Marvel's Wonder Woman

But she's only interesting around Reed. She's not independently strong.

This, specially banging every other male except her husband (all behind his back of course).

Lots if shit that no longer applies after the passage of time and corporation of greed.
Character development, for one. They're redundant on today's static unchanging "characters are brands" environment.

susan and johnny are the mother and father to two different kinds of retard

Man this.

I get it, they're Marvel's first family, but fuck me the villains are the best parts of the Fantastic Four. Hell even Reed going full blown villain was entertaining.

She doesn't bang every other male behind his back. Just Namor and T'Challa.

I started really really liking them as a tween(ugh) when my parents were going through a really rough divorce. So there's that.

I hate this meme Sue has never cheated on Reed

Check out his mini.

Why don't you read some comics instead of expecting others to spoofeed you?

Sue Storm is a yandere who picked Reed when she was 12 and he was in undergrad. Just think about that. Because you know he didn't initiate shit.

>muh villains
The humanizing character dynamics combined with the aspect of interacting with cosmic/supernatural is much more entertaining than any villain they have. I mean it, fuck off Doomfags.
Pretty much same reason people care about Spider-Man's marriage to be blunt.
No one gives a fuck about Blastaar or Diablo as much as I wish the latter wasn't the case. Diablo is fucking untapped potential as a villain but most times he appears he's shit

I still find it weird that the writers liked to have Susan in awkward situations like in and many others with Namor.

Hasnt she been married for decades? Most LOYAL women slap or get angry when men that arent their husband look at them, and dont act like they're in goddamn Cinemax softcore porn.

Also, I'm surprised Namor never feared Reed's kid. "Oh, this is the guy that nearly tore your mom apart from your dad."

Namor dissapears out of existence.

Go fuck yourself. You clearly never read a FF comic. It fucking depresses me that the First Family is resorted to mediocrity under the eyes of casuals.

Johnny Storm in his earlier adventures was your hip teenage hero next to spider man. He fought the Frighful Four members by himself without anyones help as he learned to use his powers in new creative ways. People forget but the reason Wizard founded the four was to get revenge on Johnny. There was never a big competition against Richards.

Sue is a badass mama bear. She is easily the most powerful member in the team to the point she can pierce celestial armor.

We all know why Reed is awesome.

Ben was your old school tough guy before Wolverine perfected the art. He was mistrusted and hit first then asked questions later. He was the smoker and the guy who would take you to the bar to have your ass kicked to teach you a lesson. There was a big reason why he was very popular back in the 70s. Then Clarmont came along and perfected that tough guy shtick with Logan and he became more well known in the 80s. What makes it worse is that writers pussified him into some big softy giant with the heart of gold bullshit.

The FF were awesome. The problem is they usually get mediocre writers half the time. The other half make badass stories about them and when they do the FF are always high on the sales chart. Case in point Hickman's run that outsold batman on some occasions. His run was what put him on the big map to eventually take avengers.

Reed (or the FF as a whole) should be Marvel's Superman. He's the apex-hero that everyone goes to with problems and his science and family can defeat any foe.

Hell, Reed has a one-up on Superman in that Reed probably will rule the world one day and everyone will be far better off for it instead of it being a dystopia.

mostly in it for Ben Grimm
Wacky family sci-fi adventures second

FF was where the "Marvel Universe" was born. It was where Kirby used most of his crazy character ideas that could cross over into other books. (Most Thor characters were more restricted to Thor's world.) So you got Galactus, the Silver Surfer, Inhumans and Black Panther making their debuts not very far apart, it was where Lee and Kirby introduced the idea of Nick Fury being a government agent in the present day, they would build up characters by having them guest-star in FF. It was the flagship book of Marvel for most of the '60s.

Now it hasn't really been the flagship of Marvel since Kirby left, but that's still a lot of goodwill to go on.

>reed is the super science
>johnny is the humor
>ben is the heart
>sue is the hot badass

They also have some of the best villains in Marvel.
