She looks up and sees and Asteroid plummeting towards earth. Its a nice ironic tie in with the themes of "purpose" and "significance" that the film is about.
I can go into more detail but its been a while since Ive seen the movie. It bothers me after all this time people still think she looks up and see her dad flying. That would break the rules of the films universe.
It bothers me that the director had to ruin the movie with this scene. He should have let her scream and cry so there is a clear ending
Benjamin Ramirez
>ribbit what did she mean by this?
Eli Hill
no its better that she laughs. Think about all the drama that she went through previously. Her father literally fails a suicide attempt, kills himself again, and its made irrelevant by the Asteroid. That shit is comedic and her character is exactly the type to appreciate the tragedy/comedy of something like that.

Inafartu has said himself that the jellyfish and comet shots are metaphors of his literal ups and downs in life.
the "flying" is a metaphor for staying "up"
she looks down, then up. simple.
stop pretending to be smart.

What asteroid? She laff because she start allucinating like his father. She watched down where his father corpse lay but decide to ignore the reality.

Birdman is awesome
You get more out of it if you know about Keaton's real life acting career and the short stories of Raymond Carvet, but without all that it's very enjoyable
Also impressive how they filmed it as if it was all one shot, even if it wasn't
In my opinion the only obvious cut in the film, near the end, is a massive hint as to the meaning of the ending

Keaton in Birdman is a washed-up actor who is famous for playing the superhero "Birdman" in old superhero films and he's known only for that. He craves a more worthwhile acting achievement with more artistic value. That's the premise of the plot of Birdman.
(Keaton IRL is the actor who is famous for playing Batman in the old Batman films, and never really eclipsed that until fairly recently)
In order to reboot his career in a more artistically valued way, Keaton's character is trying to stage a theatre adaptation of Carver's short story "what we talk about when we talk about love".
No spoilers there, just the setting up of the plot which you understand very early on in the film. It all goes from there.
IDK if anyone else noticed this, but if you've read "what we talk about when we talk about love" then what did you think about the difference between how the fictional play ended and how Carver's story ended?

The more I'm with you, The more I can see; My love is yours alone. You came and captured A heart that was free; Now there's nothing I can call my own.
Everything I have is yours; you're part of me. Everything I have is yours, my destiny. I would gladly give the sun to you If the sun were only mine. I would gladly give the earth to you And the stars that shine.
Everything that I possess, I offer you, That my dream of happiness come true. I'd be happy just to spend my life, Waiting at your beck and call. Everything I have is yours, My life, my all.
Charles Young
Heaven, I'm in heaven And my heart beats so that I can hardly speak And I seem to find the happiness I seek When we're out together dancing cheek to cheek
Heaven, I'm in heaven And the cares that hung around me through the week Seem to vanish like a gambler's lucky streak When we're out together dancing cheek to cheek
Oh I love to climb a mountain And reach the highest peak But it doesn't thrill me half as much As dancing cheek to cheek
Oh I love to go out fishing In a river or a creek But I don't enjoy it half as much As dancing cheek to cheek
Dance with me I want my arms about you That those charms about you Will carry me through
To heaven, I'm in heaven And my heart beats so that I can hardly speak And I seem to find the happiness I seek When we're out together dancing cheek to cheek
I was under the impression she laughed because her father shit his pants upon dying. She lifted her head to angle her nostrils for a better smell.

I think my favorite scene is the one when Keaton's at the bar with the old critic bitch and just BTFOs her shitty writing. You see so much god-awful journalism nowadays that it was cathartic seeing her get what she deserved.
