Just got done with S1. What the fuck happened to all the monster fighting?

No one knows. Maybe they felt weird continuing on that plot once it was relieved that they were corrupted gems, or maybe we're supposed to believe that jaspers puppies were the last ones (other then the centipedals) left in the wild.
