J-Horror is absolutely dead.
It's been ded since the early 90s
it has experienced something of a revival in recent years favouring edgier, "smarter" psychological horror over gory slasher pop fun. not sure if that's a good thing
i saw this in the theater when i was 15 and it still scares the shit out of me
Movie was really effective desu
Yes
In general, unfortunately yes.
*blocks your path*
I take it that you haven't seen "IT" ?
There has been a boom in """artsy""" horror movies as of late that are getting a lot of respect. Get Out was HUGE. So I don't really know what you're talking about, OP. J-Horror is, if thats what you're asking.
that scene was so fucking good
fuck i love the ring remake
It's a shame because horror is my favorite genre, but only a rough 0.5-1% of horror movies are actually worth watching. Something about this genre really attracts low quality work. It's like most movies aren't even trying to make an effort to have a decent story, setting, idea, etc. It's just cheap jump scares, generic plots, and haunted houses with dead women with long black hair or long limbs or creepy old people.
Unironically this is my favourite horror movie of the last couple of years, so I still have faith.
I thought you were talking about "Rings" and almost had an aneurysm
The Ring was dope.
Essentially dead, yeah.
Why?
Cultural differences result in panned reviews, especially with remakes
The problem is the studios. They want to give next to nothing financially and hope for a huge return. Horror is probably the most profitable, but they are afraid to change anything.
Horror should be all about evolving and trying new weird shit.
Essentially dead, yes.
No?
Mainstream yes. They keep releasing jump-scares. There have been more "artsy" horrors recently but nothing scary.
I want more stuff like Noroi or Lake mungo tbqhf
Adam Sandler is still around.
