Why?

>comics that were never good

>Go check out Sluggy Freelance for old times' sake
>It's still going
>Updated every weekday since 1997. Almost 20 fucking years.
>Back in 2004, spent weeks catching up through 7 years of comic updates, then forgot about it.
>mfw when I'd have to trek through 13 more years of daily updates just to know what the fuck is going on again

...

kys

I still miss it.

>It's been years since I read 8 bit theater. Is it still as good as I remember it?
>Yup

Hardest blueball of my life.

8-bit Theater was the pinnacle of comedy. I dare anyone to prove otherwise.

Chaos in the Tropics was interesting.

Too bad the author ditched it, killed his website, and only a handful of the pages are left on his DeviantArt.

Fuck me but I miss this.

I feel your pain user. I also read through the backlog in 2004 and then stopped reading it not long after. Fuck, how does he keep doing it?

>Too bad the author ditched it, killed his website, and only a handful of the pages are left on his DeviantArt.

wtf what when did this happen the dude just posted some art on his tumblr like last week

the guy from the hows your webcomics threads finally went nuts?

Loved em. ;_;

his comics on slipshine were so bad
his style is shit for fap material because it's impossible to tell what's happening. It's probably better for pinups than comic pages

He gave up on the comic nearly a year ago because he wasn't getting fans fast enough, his story was spinning its wheels, and he kept delaying updates.

He hasn't posted art on his main tumblr for four months, what are you talking about?

>wasn't getting fans fast enough
It kinda sucks when someone's motivation is just getting the attention and not the passion for their craft. Some people could be doing this shit for years and still have to wait years before word of mouth snowballs enough attention.

Though, I could understand if it's your only source of income and your time needs to be better spent on projects that make you money. But no idea if that's the case or not.

Last update was 4 years ago.

I hate myself for getting invested in it.

remember me?

FUCK YOU!

I can't be stopped!

Hate Song was always pretty great.

What the flying fuck is with those nipples!?

I'm pretty convinced that this will never be finished. If I had the art school, I'd finish the comic for endling himself. I hate seeing awesome potential comics just bite the dust like that

...

In his case, that wasn't the problem.

He's making a game now, but it's unlikely to ever be finished.

Sinfest exists.
Sinfest is a webcomic.
Sinfest was a good webcomic.

It happened. But, Sinfest exists.

Anders Loves Maria was cute.

That blonde guy is just Cloud

But did Cloud have a robot arm?

Everyone's are like that, are you saying yours aren't?
Freak

Yeah, it's fine.

I wish him the best, but it's not coming out anytime soon, if at all. Just like with his comic, he's spending too much time trying to come up with more stuff to add instead of actually planning things out. And he refuses to hire a programmer or anyone else, so it's pretty much a pipedream.

I kind of wonder how popular this one was. I used to read a lot of the ones on keenspot.

Wow.

That's not Cherry that's Pearl with a tan and a wig. Still, Ian's love for legs knows no bounds

>killed his website
the domain expired and he didnt see any reason to renew it. he thinks it's shit, rather than a flawed masterpiece that does action better than nearly anyone else
he also feels it's harder to get popular as a comic because it's too easy to get snowballing bad press if you violate sensibilities

>refuses to hire a programmer
I thought he was just "making a game" in the same way a writer might "make a tv show" with seasons and "movies" and everything. I mean that's what we all do, right? We have no illusions that it can actually make it.

>he thinks it's shit, rather than a flawed masterpiece that does action better than nearly anyone else
It's neither. He's better than most webcomic artists at action, but his pacing and structure are terrible because he's awful at revising his work or accepting that he has to remove and restructure things in a story to keep balance.

>he also feels it's harder to get popular as a comic because it's too easy to get snowballing bad press if you violate sensibilities
If he just updated regularly, in a more comfortable fashion than huge chunks at a time, and actually used social media to shill his stuff, he would have gotten his own little cult of personality. Hell, when he first started he was already getting one here on Sup Forums before he started taking huge hiatuses.

Fair enough; some people do that, yeah. He seems to want to actually finish it, though, and I hope for his sake that he does.

>would have gotten popular
that's what I think too. at one point he cut out color to speed up updates, but the beautiful creamy shiny color was half the appeal. Then again, the artist behind Demon's Mirror has a barely-any-color comic now and it's still great
yeah fuck I'd check it out. even if I'm not a big fan of deep-strategy tile-based turnbased RPGs

S-source?

He was getting up to speed in late '15 and early '16, releasing about a page every two months.

Agree, pic related.

Remember when Sinfest was good?

Why wasn't it called "Everyone wants to fuck Anders"?

Yep. Hard to believe it's been like 6 years now.

Yeah, I kept telling myself it was a phase he was going through...I stuck with the webcomic for about a year after "the change" before calling it quits.

I don't know why I keep reading Misfile

That was my intro to webcomics. I don't think it's aged well.

>That was my intro to webcomics.

I can't exactly recall but I think mine was 8-bit Theater.

sure was. i love me some euro comics.

i wonder what keeps happening to Listening to 11.975mhz
it comes back online briefly every so often then disappears again

i'm worried about Bear and Kitten. Some of the archive is online but not all
i wish the Count Your Sheep guy would continue. yeah okay he has a kid, but a comic that popular should make money which kids need, plus he's surely got more inspiration than ever for the cute little kid parts

that happened with me with Shortpacked
I kept up with that SO much longer than I should have.
that's an onion in the ointment

>Shortpacked

I'm not familiar with it. What was it and what did it turn into?

>endling's still doing oc tournaments on the down-low even while employed
>still manages to blueball me by withdrawing from all of them before he can get a story going, leaving only a few tantalizing character designs and storyboards in his wake

just cuck my shit up

I'm sure you've heard of Dumbing of Age. it was his previous (or two comics ago?) project. it started out as a lot of funny sitcom-esque jokes about working in a toy store, interspersed with funny gags about toys and the popular franchises involved therein.. then it just became a bunch of strawmanning
first strawmanning for the complaints people have about toys, then for the complaints people have about the increasing SJWing of comics (And this was some years back before the epidemic was quite so clear), then just... full blown nonstop gay all day all the time.

It doesn't matter where you stopped you've missed nothing, Ash hasn't developed at all and the end of his highschool career is over in about an in universe month which Chris claims will be when it ends but there's no resolution in sight

Who here remembers Anime Arcadia?

I remember it kind of just dying around the time the protagonist's rich bitch of a mother was visiting and it just... stopped before anything was actually finished.

...

>Dumbing of Age

OK, I can see the parallel with Sinfest now.

I thought The Thin H Line/Sexy Losers was done forever, but the site seems to have been updated (in terms of design) and it looks like new comics have been added.

I'm pretty happy.

that's not really the biggest problem, though it is one. it's the just terrible tone issues.

sounds like something i'd read back in the day

It still amazes me how his art has gotten WORSE since when he started. I just for nostalgia sake dropped to the front page and what a pile of shit. Tons of sketch lines != quality for fucks sake.

I might, was the premise some loser wishes he had a cat girl and one of his drawings comes to life but she's a selfish bitch and not-hilarity ensues

wouldn't it be amazing if it was all just a gag all along, and who we thought was the strawmans was actually the ones he approves of and vice versa

>Loserz and the QLC just end while the artist just draws shitty porn on slipshine

the quality is better, the style is worse. ditto misfile.
it's difficult for any weeaboo artist to survive the change in internet climate over the last 2 decades from extremely supportive to virulently oppositive, the little changes they try to make always end up making things much worse by undoing the good aspects instead of solving the bad ones

It went out well though.

who remembers punks and nerds?

One of my favorite strips, though I won't claim it was one of the best.

still going

though kern is supposedly wrapping things up in 5 chapters or so. chapters tend to run up to 100 pages. 4-5 pages a week. So it should be done sometime in 2020.

This was one I was always a bit sad to see get dropped. Writing was kind of meh but the art was pretty damn good.

how can you even tell with those people

my first introduction, it was amazing

Can anyone reccomend anything like it?

so glad that comic is back. i was worried about him

I have a webcomic that's been going on for a couple years. Barely got any followers.

I started a new one a couple months ago and it got much bigger much faster.

I still want to work on the original one, but it's pretty hard when the new one is so much more successful.

And what is it with webcomic people having horrible health and mental issues? She had pretty amazing comic going and then just literally went to pieces. Of course it didn't help she fell into the Ava's demon trap of "I'm going to do a book and it'll be the most amazingist thing evar!...oh shit a book costs THAT MUCH?!?!"

i liked Ah! Peegee! but you can read that archive in about 5 minutes.
people will understand if the original one's updates slow-but-don't-stop

>And what is it with webcomic people having horrible health and mental issues?
Artists of all kinds - writers, musicians, painters, film makers, etc. are frequently the sufferers of mental, physical, and/or emotional issues.

Think of it as a cosmic price for skill and talent.

Speaking of web comics, who here remembers Fireball20xl?

That shit was my gateway to web comics back in the day and to fan stuff in general now that I think about it.

How long has that been dead, 2 years now?

This one came back after about a year updated for about a month, then went back on hiatus.

But the author promised to come back after he finished writing his book. Damn this hope

No they're both still ongoing.

I just put the original comic on hiatus last week because I want a good start on chapter 2 of my new webcomic.

I had been working on it regularly for two years straight.

Yyyep. Got it in one.

fuck, i used to love that comic. I wonder how it's doing or if it ever completed?

I was talking about zombie hunters, has she updated at all in the past however long it's been since Jenny fell in that hole and started being chased by zombies

it's a weird chicken and egg thing. being rejected makes you turn inward and become creative, spend more time thinking about and consuming media.. but also sticking to such lonely pursuits means your social situation aint getting any better. but it wasnt in the first place

His "reason why I'm not doing Sexy Losers anymore" thing from a few years ago was shocking and sobering. Worst still, he did Depression Comix afterwards.

I was worried about him too.

I just looked at it, and it looks intresting.

Should I really start reading 20 years of art?

shit was my entire jam. all of it, all the dumb spritecomics and hilarious weird shit.. they even did some early Abridging
sadly psyguy got hit by the pedo police witch hunt and has dropped off the internet entirely.

My guess is a woman. it's always a woman.
and then he cut the bitch loose maybe? and went back to good oldfashioned omnilaterally offensive humor as god intended.

Far as I can tell from the final page posted, it's totally dead. At least the author's getting some help, everything on that page sounded pretty horrible.

>My guess is a woman. it's always a woman.
You're not wrong. One of the big reasons he ended was because a bitchy, vindictive ex girlfriend told his boss/family about his (admittedly weird/sexual/offbeat/normalfag-repelling) comics and it had not only terrible social consequences but nearly legal ones as well.

It was all explained in that post I referenced of his.

huh, maybe this isn't the same post I read. the one I read he was fully drinking the flavor-ade and apologizing for his past actions, fully and earnestly endorsing the other viewpoint.

where does he live again? hard to imagine legal consequences in a decent country but a shocking number of great artists are from various armpits in the pacific

In a sane world, that girlfriend would be the one facing legal consequences.

>Ill'haress Quaint Anaval'sarghress

I can't take your comic seriously when your names are that long and complicated.

Ill'haress(title) Quain'tana(givenname) Val(also a title)'Sharghress(Clan/House/sur name)
