How can you tell the difference between bad acting and bad writing?

Can someone tell me how to spot bad acting?

Cara's dad is a billionaire. One day his little spoiled princess decided she wanted to be a supermodel, so he made the wish come true. But that got boring, so now she wants to be a movie star! So daddy made it happen. That alone should tell you why she is bad.

At this point I'm certain that acting is the most subjective thing about films and television

she's not even that pretty

virgin

...

White knight. Really no difference between both of you.

she looks like a teen boy in makeup

>cara isnt perfect
Fucking queer.

I've only seen her in Valerian but she had dead eyes and delivers a lot of her lines in a flat, unconvincing manner.

writing is what they say, acting is the delivery. It's pretty simple. The one and only blurred area is when a director allows them to "improvise" and then that can't be blamed on the writers, but the audience won't know.

One easy test-case is remakes. If the line is already great and loved in novels or previous series and nobody likes it in your shitty re-hashing, then obvious it's bad acting.

Acting can save bad writing, but the reverse is much harder to pull off.

>10/10 to britsharts
lol

most normal people agree with you, don't let the waifufags make you think otherwise.

One reason for the flat dialogue and acting is simple, the director is French, It is hard to pick out the nuances in speech when you are not a native speaker I find the same problem with many European co productions.

its all bad man
for me its all bad

Valerian was special because it had both BAD writing and BAD acting.
The only good part was the opening montage.
The rest was just so shit.
Hell, the fucking Avatar beach aliens were more compelling characters than the two retarded assholes who we were supposed to like

holy shit she sounds so tone deaf

This movie sucked. I tried to give it the benefit of the doubt but it was fucking dull despite the good visuals. It's like they didn't even try to have fun with the movie.

and as far as the clip, Cara is a shit actress and totally fucked that scene up. The lines weren't too bad although borderline cliche. An experienced actor would have been able to make them work, using the correct pauses between words, inflections, mannerisms, movement, etc. Also they would probably have improvised a line or two, to give the scene more flair.

So yes, a good actor can even make a mediocre or average script seem "good" but a bad actor many times can't even pull of a good or decent script. They lack the intricacies like I mentioned above.

Someone post the overacting Gadot clip.

That was pretty good acting though

Have another one

She did fine

is this true?

How did Besson go from Leon, Fifth Element and Joan of Arc to shit like this and Lucy?

He's old.
Simple as that

she has a jewy rat face and I hate it

Nah, she doesn't look like a rat, she's an entirely new species

My professor once said that there's no saving a bad script. No matter how good everything else is, if the script is bad every performance is going to come out as bunk.

Not really

Frankie Muniz looks like that?!

I think I'm crushing on Cara Delevingne.
Anyone know what school she went to? Fuck she'd be hot in a schoolgirl outfit, those knee high white socks and pleated skirt, she looks so fun so chill, so aussie but like a poisonous flower. Why is she so perfect?

There's no saving the movie with a bad script, but you can save performances.
Look at Ian McDiarmid in the Prequels. Totally shit movies, but he managed to make his parts enjoyable just on how much he clearly enjoyed being a giant ham

If you want bad acting, just watch the scene where she calls for Valerian over comm (when he's chasing the aliens on the station). Also she doesn't show any emotion with facial expression or in voice. Putting hands on your head and rolling your eyes doesn't equal acting. Can't say for other of her movies since I haven't watched them but Valerian could have been better if they just dropped her character as a whole.

This genuinely could have been a good movie if Besson hadn't been such a horny French brainlet with his casting the main characters. The intro montage with Space Oddity was really good

>The intro montage with Space Oddity was really good
This

A really good director can take bad actors and a shit script and turn them into something entertaining, probably not a great movie, but at least not a shit one. Also a great director of actors can make anyone act decently.

The script itself can't be saved, but good visuals, performances and even musical scores can salvage enough to make it enjoyable.
People like Tim Curry, Christopher Walken and Michael Caine practically made a career out of doing so

>A really good director can take bad actors and a shit script and turn them into something entertaining
Got an example?

Wonder Woman to an extend.

I think Chris Pine is a good actor. Well, maybe not good in the way that DDL is, but charming and enjoyable to watch.
Most of WW was salvaged by Pine just being likeable and fun to watch.

>not being attracted to a teen boy in makeup

Lets meme her into pornstar next, maybe she gets to be the next face of "believe in your dreams"

>look at image
>quarter chub

Why is it that so many people consider Gal Gadot to be a good actress?

>You finally score Cara gf
>She's a boy

What do?

No one considers her a good actress
They think she's attractive and she's a good "role model" in Wunderfrau

>queer.
thats rich considering she looks more like a man than woman in half her photos

Chris Pine has charisma. Honestly I think Gal Gadot could, too, but it certainly wasn't utilized in WW or that movie she did with Jon Hamm.

>No one considers her a good actress

Wrong

At her age? Very unlikely.

You're confused.

Because people find her attractive they think shes a good actress.

The mystery is why people think shes attractive.
