Somewhat. I might see it if nothing else is out at the time
Never run Valerian, but I like me some ayys.

The intro to the animated series is playing in my head

>fat Valerian
>ugly Laureline

I'm watching it.

But I'm annoyed she's not a redhead since that was the reason I picked up the comic.

Optics are looking good, but the main actors are coming across as absolutely unsympathetic.

>"graphic novel"

They should have said "French comic series"

There was a thread on this movie a few months ago. Never heard of the series before then, and I read a little bit of the comic because of it. The previews seems OK, but at this point, all these big-budget films blend together to me.

honestly I am completely ignorant of the source material.
however, I am incredibly exited to see this movie. This brand of high science fiction fantasy I am all about it.

Still watching it although I'm not really optimistic.

I hope it'll be good, but with those two shitters in the lead roles I don't have much faith.

Then again Luc Besson can work magic sometimes and it's not like he's not familiar with the genre, so who knows.

I'm mostly interested since it inspired The 5th Element and from the same director.

Both the main Actors look like cardboard cut outs, so no.

>adaptation of something no one's heard of
>massive budget
>no advertising

Regardless of quality this has bomb written all over it. Hopefully it does well internationally because I just don't see Americans seeing this.

This will sink like a stone in America, but probably not in France and maybe parts of continental Europe.

The WTFs start early and don't slow down when reading this cast list

I now remember Brandon Routh in Dylan Dog.

Only Italians would "get it" and that name alone means no one in the English-speaking world would take it seriously.

Luc Besson's also total shit sometimes too though. I want this movie to be good cause I love space movies and I LOVE the Fifth Element, but I ain't gettin my hopes up.

I want to see it to use it as a Cara Delevingne girlfriend simulator tbqh

With Besson in general if he is director the movie is good if he is producer the movie is shit.

>Herbie Hancock
Wait what
Does that mean we get some sweet tunes?

Neither looks fat or ugly. I think the cool kids in Europe call it "heroine chic"

Fuck yeah, Valerian! I recognize some stuff on the trailer. The underwater alien with the head-cable harvesting crystals is highly radioactive. The big black niggrish aliens that Laureline infiltrated with the help of the shape-shifter also showed up as a cameo in an early Samurai Jack episode, they're a warrior society.

Two years ago I killed a horse in a satanic ritual for a new Fifth Element movie. I imagine this is what that horse died for

It might do the Tintin thing and connect so well in Europe we get a trilogy.

Are you me?

But Red Rackham's Treasure is in development hell thanks to the Hobbit movies taking Jackson's time.

same here

I'm sorry but Luc Besson is doing a reddit chat right now.

I want to ask him about that Joan of Arc movie.

Fuck you for killing a horse.

First trailer got me curious enough to read some of the comics. They were cool, but never really grabbed me. I dunno if they get better later on or what.

This second trailer looks way better. Diverse system of planets contained within one city means there'll probably be some really interesting set pieces, the interaction between the leads doesn't look nearly as cringey as I thought it would, they actually have chemistry.

>First trailer got me curious enough to read some of the comic
How does one go about this? Do you have a website or download link? Or did you buy physical copies?

Meh, I might watch it. The dude basically said that he's going to make The Fifth Element 2 : Space Alien Bogaloo.

There isn't going to be anything left of what made the series great, but a second part of the Fifth Element with more aliens shouldn't be a total waste of an evening.

They've definitely been posted on Sup Forums. There might be a folder somewhere, just use the archive.

Thank you. I shall do that.

Yet another reason I hate those movies

try libgen

Love the graphic novels (well, most of them), at first I was excited that this was based upon 'Ambassador of the Shadows' which is one of my favourites, then the trailer came and it was clear it only borrowed some elements, while in turn adding video game looking action sequences and some shitty cgi creatures that look like some leftovers from Phantom Menace.

5th Element was zany but charming, this, by the looks of the trailers are nothing of the sort, all of a sudden Valerian is some action hero kicking aliens like some martial arts master... WTF ?

Also not happy with the casting, especially the guy who looks retarded.

It seems Luc Besson lost whatever mojo he had once he had finished Joan of Arc, everything he has done after that has been uninspired.

See

I will go see it for one reason and one reason only.

Although, I expect it to be like the 5th Element, which I went to see only for Milla and ended up being one of my favourite films of all time.

She looks like a crackwhore most of the time

Kill you for fucking a horse.

Yeah, it is not a graphic novel.

Mathieu Kassovitz
>"nice hat" from Fith Element
>"La Haine" director

heh, can be fun

yes but I don't expect the movie to be good at all, or at least, to completely fail to capture what makes the comic.

>This brand of high science fiction fantasy I am all about it.

isn't it called Space Opera?

Cara delevigne is there, it's guaranteed to make ends meet.

>rihanna

is she there to do nothing but look cool again?

The blonde chick reminds me of Terra.

>sympathy and/or care for horses
They're heartless horrible monsters, the only good horse is a dead horse.

Maybe they should have "the story that inspired Star Wars" as a tagline

Why isn't she a redhead in the movie?
Why do directors always ignore shit like this?

Literally because Leeloo was a redhead

But then Leeloo was a redhead because of her, so what the hell Besson.

>

WTF indeed. I saw Laureline doing some fighting , not sure what you're on about. Also always gotta laugh at people who bitch about CGI in a sci fi movie with space ships and shit. Not to mention most hitching about CGI were the same ones who didn't know that BB8 from SW:TFW was practical

>She looks unkempt when she's walking to the store
So does every human ever. You're posting on Sup Forums, dude, I bet you're no prize hen yourself.

Dehaan is /ourguy/, and I find Cara attractive in some angles, but I feel it's a miscast all around. Will watch though for that Euro sci-fi.

I'll see how opinion pans out. If it's good enough, I'll watch it.

>So does every human ever
Where the hell do you live?

Earth. What stuck up timeless hell do you live in where people do their hair and makeup to your standards before going to the shop for a pack of fegs?

These. Should I check out the original comics?

>pack of fegs
Ah, found the problem.

It looks like vapid teenager schlock, so no.

This adaption scream Moebius.

Not that i think Sup Forums - cape shills & fanfics even know who the man is.

Wow you so chick and cool for knowing about this mainstream artist that is beloved all around the world

Burgers threw a fit at Manara for drawing a scanted Spidergirl. They even said he was influenced by Liefeld!

Never underestimate the ignorance of capeshills.

Big whoop, you can find anybody saying anything on Sup Forums.

Doesn't mean you're not a super special snowflake for thinking you're the only one to know of Moebius.

>talking down to Sup Forums users about not knowing Moebius while saying Christin & Mezieres' style "screams Moebius" as if they weren't friends and contemporaries that traded influence back and forth

Fucking kill yourself

>that pic

>capeshill
>bitching about Spider-Woman

SJWs who don't even read comics were the ones screaming like harpies on that one.

I know who is the author, but Mezieres colors aren't as saturated as Moebius and Luc Besson have many influences.

>I know who is the author,
Yes, yes, you know everything, we're aware.

The only thing worse than a condescending tryhard pretentious cunt is a condescending tryhard pretentious cunt who's WRONG.

You were the one showing his dick name calling Christin & Mezieres. Hurr-durr their name is literally everywhere in the advertisment.

Prove it faggot.

Mezieres usually has two-three flat colours in his panels; using many vivid different colours to give wight to object is Moebius style.

Post a page from the original Valerian that looks like the trailer.

>Left Pic: 6 Colors
>Right Pic: 3.5 Colors
REMOVE NOLAN

Anyone familiar with the animated version?

>mfw they couldn't even get actors who look like characters

I actually recognised few alien beings from trailers.

Wondering from what albums they draw influence. Empire of Thousand planets would be weird because it isn't that complex story. The priest caste of immortal stranded human astronauts would be baller villains, however.

Why does everything have to be Iron Man or Mass Effect suits nowadays? Couldn't they have made it look more like the artwork?

>BB8 from SW:TFW was practical
Many scenes had a terrible looking BB8 on set for the sake of interaction, but he was replaced with CG in the finished product.

Supposedly they're mostly adapting (read: drawing inspiration from) Ambassador of Shadows.

Could you be any more of a pretentious cunt?
Moebius is a classic, knowing him doesn't make you cool.

Speaking of which, where is that adaptation of The Incal that Nicolas Winding Refn has been attached to forever?

Yeah the lack of pulpy space suits is the only real negative I have so far. Everything else has that colorful 1960s pulp sci fi aesthetic but the characters are stuck in black mass effect armor. I don't get it.

Some John Carterish cgi as well but thats a nitpick.

Wow! Reading that actually made me die a bit more inside. Thanks, user!

Is the animated series worth checking out?

>>This brand of high science fiction fantasy I am all about it.
>isn't it called Space Opera?

He's french

The LIEFELD IS ACTUALLY A GREAT ARTIST meme was a brief one but not brief enough.

It was mostly Morrison's fault for saying it in the Kevin Smith podcast and then Sup Forums tryhards parroted it for months.

Well, that isn't half as bad as some others choices could have been. They could have gone with the one with magic alien aborginales, the one with inverse earth of perpentual gender-warfare, the one with giant space-tyrant blob who rules entire planet with insanity inducing birds or heaven forbid the one where they have to compete with space stand-ins of Soviet-style socialism, military expansionist warrior ethos fascism and hippies on who gets to become the father of an entire planets next generation.

And one movie isn't obviously enough for the timetravel / lost earth arcs of latter series.

What are the best Valerian comics?

just because they don't look like slack-jawed porn actors doesn't mean it's gonna be bad.

Why do they look like genetic twins of differing sexes?

oh yeah that Tintin trilogy we got...part of.

because you can still masturbate to the comicbooks if it's such a big deal to you.

premium bait

not happening

iwatchstuff.com/2016/06/nicolas-winding-refn-says-hes-not-adapti.php

I've wanted to see it for years, but rips just aren't out there.

I read the first couple volumes. They were okay but I'd see the movie just for Besson doing Sci-fi.

Yes

Anime Laureline is thicc

I grew up with the comic, and it remains one of my favorites.
I also adore Luc Beson and can't wait to see his take on this BD.
Haan is a bit too soft, but Delevingne is surprisingly spot on, now all she needs is reddish hair. But this is me being pedantic, they both look fine.

America is not the world - you yanks seem to forget that often.

The first 2 or 3 albums are not the best, but they're useful to understand the context.
Heroes of the Equinox, Hostages of Ultralum are fun and can be read independently.
The last three are weirder than the rest

The first twelve issues.

I've never read the comic but the movie looks fun, way better than GotG 2 at least.
