Does anyone else feel that crying should be used pretty sparingly outside of comedic effect? A lot of emotion can be conveyed just by a subtle expression or the tone of someone's voice.

I'm not just trying to bash SU, as it has had some very well-done emotional scenes in the past, but there is just a ton of crying in it too.

I think that being able to convey how a character is feeling with fairly small changes in their demeanor is the sign of a good animator/artist.

Its an anime reference. No, that's not an excuse, but that's why.

Crying is only for funerals and the Grand Canyon.

There's not as much crying as there used to be, and if there is, it doesn't last the entire episode.

Eh, I mean over-the-top bawling makes for good comedy, but crap drama. Typically a single tear going down someone's face can be more impactful. Either that or voice acting like you said

Yes, over use of one thing diminishes the effect it has

The Grand Canyon is cool, but I'm assuming it's not the most impressive geological site on the planet.

is the ep out yet?

It doesn't need to be most impressive geological site on the planet.

Just the most impressive one in America.

>America

That shithole?

Excessive crying to demonstrate an overly-emotional character is fine when done right, can lead to some serious character building, but when shows like SU don't have any real depth or do things like pic related in , it just looks retarded.

Whatever happened to protagonists with confidence?

Steven Universe is heavily inspired by anime and the Japanese don't know what subtle means

Sally Bollywood only cried once in her entire series.

...Are his eyes melting?

I am so tired of Disney Princesses letting out the waterworks at the drop of a hat while the boys just let out a single tear. Are they trying to make the girls look weak? Well, yes, but still...

That just looks like porn user

Everybody jumped the relatable charcater bandwagon. Most of your audience doesnt have confidence and want to see character without confidence like them.

Does anyone else feel there should be less Shit Universe threads

Sally Bollywood is a comedy

a comedy with a severe lack of lewds

I've noticed this in all mediums. Is there a single female protag that HASN'T cried? Even Samus got fucked by this phenomenon.

yes

I want to say Bee never cried?

Oh, female protag from cybersix! Never cried as far as i know.

And of course...

Depends, do you mean hasn't cried unreasonably, or hasn't cried at all?

Mina cried when she was made to by that alligator ghost.

I don't trust you if you never cry or smile too often. If this makes you mad I trust you twice as less.
