I HEDGE THAT HATEHOG

WUHH WUH WUHHHHHHHHHH

HE HAS MADE ME TEAR EVERRY HAIR OUT OF MY BEEEEAUTIFUL HEAD

AoStH > SatAM

As a kid, you find yourself enjoying SatAM more, the characters and world feel like the games to you, and you want the serious save the world setting.

As an adult, you realize just how out of place Sonic actually feels in the SatAM setting, and you actually "get" the humor of AoStH enough to like it more. You also realize the settings of AoStH actually feel more like the games than SatAM ever did.

>As a kid, you find yourself enjoying SatAM more
Speak for yourself.

My first exposure was a VHS with two AoStH episodes and the Robo-Sally SatAM episode. One held my attention, the other confused the hell out of me with its weird logic (Sonic talking into a glass of makes his Robotnik impression more convincing...how?) and bored me with its bland characters and slow pace.

TOMORROW I'LL

As someone who never really liked Sonic I agree.
Sonic being in a serious oppressive setting as a "freedom fighter" feels like a generic saturday morning cartoon but with Sonic slapped in.
The worst parts of Sonic to me have always been whenever it tries to get serious. This is what killed the Archie comics for me (and presumably it did so for other people since I hear these complains on Sonic threads).

Robotnik is one of the only things I consistenly enjoy about the franchise and he was pretty much the protagonist of AoStH, which makes the show very watchable to me.

INVENT THOSE BLUEPRINTS

>I'm not a Robot
but Sally is

Which one do you prefer ?

I wonder if she has a fleshlight installed.

AoStH.
I think Robotnik works in both ways but he's so much better as a comedic foil.
Nothing can top Long John Baldry's delivery

SatAM Robotnik is boring and generic. You could replace him with anything else and there'd be little to no change.

AoStH Robotnik, yeah, you can't replace that.

pingas XDD

START

And you may ask yourself MY GOD, WHAT HAVE I DONE

THE TRAIN IS LATE

I think modern Eggman is the best mix of comedy and villainy, with Boom Eggman a close second.

But between those two, AOSTH was by far the more creative and entertaining one. Given the EXTREME amount of 90s cheese the sonic fanchise was smothered in at the time, AOSTH Robotnik was a more fitting antagonist for Sonic too.

SatAM is the Shadow Master from Double Dragon, except fat.

AoStH is an OC drawing inspiration from Yosimitee Sam and others. I prefer him.

Would you stop Sonic returning to his world like Chris tried to?

SATAM would have been better without Sonic.

Blue Urkel just does not fit with a serious setting. Sonic Underground, with its slightly more developed characterization, came closer to a good balance but didn't quite hit the mark because it was fucking bad.

Replace SatAM's Robotink with AoSTH's Robotink. Does this improve SatAM?

>SATAM would have been better without Sonic.
If it was the same show, not really. Sally is the only other thing that passes for a character, and she's Ben's boring waifu. The show would become even more boring.

If you mean completely redesigned without Sonic...maybe, but then we're supposing better writers would fix the numerous flaws, which just wasn't gonna happen. Bunnie and Rotor would still be non-characters, Antoine would still get no development, Dulcy would most likely still happen, etc.

Considering the best moments of SatAM are the few bits of sarcasm and humor from Jim Cummings? Probably, yeah.

It would also help sell Robotnik as an antagonist (he managed to take over the world DESPITE being a huge bumbling goof), stave away angst, provide opportunities for him to actually have agency in the events that take place, and give the characters more to bounce off.

Or in short, go read Mike Gallagher and Angelo DeCesare's Archie Sonic stories. That status quo is specifically what you describe and he really shines there, swapping from goofy punching bag to legit threat and back without missing a beat.

I don't really follow Sonic games anymore but I really like Boom Eggman.
Actually, Sonic Boom as a whole can be remarkably funny.

Depends.
Part of the reason why AoSTH Robotnik works is because he's ineffective and his schemes blow up on his face all the time. He's kind of like the Road Runner in that sense, and the episodes focus a lot on him. If you put him in SatAM's position of having already conquered the world with an efficient army, you kind of lose that. And plus, you'd probably have to discard Scratch and Grounder for it to make sense. It woul

But then again, his characterization would be funnier because he would be this bumbling manchild barking orders who can function as a huge threat, and you could have a fun little dichotomy of characters talking about how evil and terrifying Robotnik is and what a impact he had in their lives, and then cutting away to moments like "I DON'T RREMEMBER PRROGRRAMING YOU TO BEAT ME", or him complaining about being served hotcakes instead of eggs for breakfest.

Honestly I'd say yes. SatAM is so dull that it could use a villain like him.
His interactions with Snively would probably be better.

Again, spot on with the comic.

>Leads an assault on Knothole with war machines...dressed as General Patton.
>Holds Olympic games just to trap Sonic and his friends
>Has a showdown with the FFs that ends in success!...but the "treasure" he found was Sonic's baby shoes
>Scares birds for fun
>Drinks motor oil like cola
>Hates music
>Totally nearly killed the team on the moon, though.

>the villain is legitimately more entertaining than the protagonist
What are some other shows that do this? I can only think of Samurai Jack.

Sonic Adventure 1/2/Heroes Robotnik > AoStH Robotnik > SatAM Robotnik > Sonic Underground Robotnik > power gap > modern game Robotnik

Debate me.

>Sonic Adventure 1/2/Heroes
>The same as the other games, except slightly edgier and ALWAYS gets trumped by the REAL final boss.
>"Modern Eggman" at the bottom despite this

You got issues, m8.

>tfw Boogidyboo retired almost 10 years ago
>tfw thechairman45 retired 5 years ago
>tfw no good Robotnik YTPs since
Posting one of my favorites.

youtube.com/watch?v=D9cl0sFtSfA

Because the villains are given a bit more freedom to do whatever the writer wants. They're not restricted to do evil or good things all the time and can come off as amusing compare to the protagonist.

I don't know if it's Sup Forums related, but King Dedede is another example of that.

>darker Robotnik that's actually a threat and has chilling lines like "out of my way, or I'll grind you to mincemeat"
> vs. "HOHO SHADOW, YOU KNOW WHAT THEY SAY! THE MORE THE MERRIER!"

I don't care about what happens in the game themselves, I was talking about the VAs. And the modern VA is awful. He was awful in Sonic X and he's awful 15 years later.

Can't believe I forgot Dedede.
That VA was a genius in how he chose to portray him.

>the other confused the hell out of me with its weird logic (Sonic talking into a glass of makes his Robotnik impression more convincing...how?)
it's a cartoon

ytp Robotnik is a gift from the heavens.

youtube.com/watch?v=epkMnRq5Ie4

I love how the character designer said that the AoStH of Robotnik wasn't meant to be designed as a villain, but an object of ridicule.

How can I help you, King Dedede?

You misunderstand.

I didn't have a problem with your average ass suspension of disbelief. I had problems with the show acting like it was clever without actually being clever. It's fine when Scratch suddenly creates a blowup Hedgehog or Grounder's nose becomes a basketball, but acting like directions written on a wall are a "riddle" or talking into a glass for no discernable reason gives pause.

WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY

I NEED A MONSTAH THAT CAN PUT OUT A FIYAH

It's funny how a simple change in voice direction can really define a character's reputation. The Texan accent was really the best decision they've ever done.

iirc the VA wanted to do a mix between Foghorn Leghorn and Richard Nixon. I don't hear the Nixon really but by god Dedede made that show.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Tails Gets Trolled Eggman > The rest

youtube.com/watch?v=QaiB0AUNqCs

>that entire chapter

Fuck you King Dedede

CHOCOLATE COVERED COCK

Manlets. When will they learn?
That entire arc was GOAT. Dedede losing his cool and bragging that they're about to launch a sneak attack to the person they're about to sneak attack was probably best part.

I think most shows do this, though.
Villain characters generally tend to have more personality since they can do despicable things and get beaten up, which makes for much stronger comedy. Heroes have an image to maintain most of the time, but villains don't. Shows like LazyTown understand this.

A good example of this are the Mario spin-offs (not Sup Forums related but it illustrates my point).
They used to have these little opening cutscenes played before the start of the game. And in nearly all of them, Wario and Waluigi were the focus.
They get to be the focus because they are primarily comic relief villains with dumb antics which allows the writers to have fun with them. They have actual personalities, unlike the other characters, and an established dynamic. They are allowed to be humiliated and to be mean. And since they are ineffective and silly, they get to be foils to not just the heroes but Bowser as well.

youtube.com/watch?v=qdlsAeu_n3k

>tfw going from Texas Dedede to whatever the fuck his voice is supposed to be in Smash Bros

One day we'll get that game where the bad guys are Captain Syrup/Wario/Waluigi.

Nice trips. I hear more of a Bush accent rather than the Nixon impression Ted Lewis tried to do. And it worked really well hilariously enough.

Racist.

How dare you interrupt me while I'm trying to RAPE Tails.

No, because I'm not an autist.

>His last name is Thorndyke
It's almost like they knew people weren't going to like him.

I honestly could watch these two all day.
I still think Waluigi deserves his own game at least.

>implying Wario would share his wealth or the prospect of future wealth with anyone

Maybe with Waluigi, but that's only because he shares a dislike of the Mario Brothers.

Oh, it's not perilous! The OLD Robotnik would have made it perilous, but now, Robotnik would not make it perilous!

>same VA as bakura, giovanni, and escargoon

Not even with Waluigi, one of the spin-off games featured them bickering over who owned a treasure chest on top of a fucking building.
Which reminds me, is that new Mario Sports game any good? I've been waiting for a third mario baseball.

It was a weird decision but it completely paid off.
Dedede is the reason I bothered to rewatch Kirby: Right Back At Ya!.
It's pretty watchable, actually. The two kids are annoying but I've always liked the Kirby games (and I main Dedede in Smash Bros).
But he and Escargoon made that entire show.

The reveal of the salesman true form caught me off guard. I nearly choked from the hilarity of it.

But that's the fun of it: to watch them fight over it.
These two often bicker and fight but they are still friends (Wario is literally Waluigi's only friend).

I heard it wasn't very good, sadly.

Daddy Sakurai has voiced the perfect being since Kirby 64. Though I do agree that demonic Dedede is unsettling as fuck in Smash 4.

youtube.com/watch?v=Hgvrxkeh9tc

Wario has plenty of friends in warioware though

What other recent work has he voice acted in?

I know. He has them in Wario Land too.
But Waluigi only has him.

Pity we never see them anywhere else, other than Ashley who appears to be Waifu of the Year if Nintendo Badge Arcade is any indication.
Speaking of Warioware, there was this one guy on Newgrounds who made a bunch of crappy flash animations based on them on Newgrounds years ago. Warioware: Tooned I believe. The only thing I remember is one short featured a remade ending of the power rangers movie with Spitz replacing Zordon for some reason.

It's mostly because Waluigi doesn't have any games of his own.

They're not really his friends IIRC. In the original WarioWare basically he had them all program the microgames for him and then he refused to pay them back.

Or something.

This is off topic but maybe someone can answer this. Why was that guy so fucking popular several years ago to the point where /i/ had like 4 active threads dedicated to making porn of him? I didn't even know where he came from until a few years after that.

He called them his friends in the intro though.

They certainly were the dynamic duos of the series. Every time they appeared, you know you're going to have a good time.

Was it kino?
youtube.com/watch?v=vCoQBUMV2J8

that's because Waluigi a shit

OH IT'S FROM THE SHOW!
IT'S FROM THE SHOW! FROM THE SHOW!

>that episode where they hired a bunch of neckbeards to make a new cartoon
>they waifufag all over Tiff

It's like if Sup Forums made their own cartoon and had limitless resources

Satam Robotnik was a cyborg, right? I wonder why he didn't go full mecha?

>that episode is a follow up to the one I posted
>the reason he needs to make a new series is because hmm he previous one bombed so hard he went into bankruptcy

It wasn't intentional. Sonic knocked his arm into the roboticizer.

It was such a bizarre thing to see, but maybe it was because of the rampant DededexEscargoon thing that use to happen.

>not waifufagging over Tiff in the first place
Surely you jestin'.

Not even close, this was kino.

youtube.com/watch?v=ynRbrArgink

Ears though

Why is she so perfect?

>the Kirby Halloween episode with the haunted house

That's pretty much early Archie and fleetway robotnick. It's so surreal to see aosth robotnick act serious in fleetway.

Saw a compilation of this Robotnik, now I want to watch some episodes of this show. Best way to do so?

There are lots on youtube in full quality

Boom Eggman is legitimately one of the best characters from that show. I love the fact that he actually gave Tails useful tips on woman and has a lot in common to Sonic on that best buddy game. Eggman the Auteur is still my favorite episode.

Why does she have 3 hairties? That's kinda stupid and excessive.

>liking trash

I like her too, thats why I'm a trashman.

That scene with Escargoon was legitimately creepy, and the same could be said for the upstairs room scene plus the blood coming out of the skulls.

Just watch it in random. There are no continuities just plain strangeness and comedy.
