I did have a gender studies class in university while studying the Marxist approach.
No such question was asked but I remember discussing the book and film The Magus with the professor after I mentioned that it's such a nice book and the film has a completely different approach towards women than the book does. She sort of agreed.

Wow, I did not understand any of that.

Soyboy.

kek what a fag.

>and then there was this time that i had this class and it wasn't like what you think and i did this in the class and the professor like it and it was fun and i liked it

kys

Did you facefuck her?

Based gender studies poster

What Women Want - because it gives us a baseline of doing everything wrong, from which we can collectively only build

I don't understand
please explain this comic strip to me

Toxic male tries to act like he isn't a misogynist, gets called out and admits he is one, then gets a backhanded compliment to the effect of "wow you're not as retarded as you seem"

Is their a more basic bro film then the hangover?

Debbie Does Stalingrad

fight club

This is part of a continuous story, next few strips have the teacher explaining how The Hangover fails the Bechdel test but that Persepolis and Eclipse pass it.

Salo or 120 Days of Sodom

What an exciting ongoing narrative.

debbie does persepolis is top tier bantz haha in real life there would be hi fives all around

>implying the bechdel test has any value

It's a very, very, very long comic.

Glengarry Glen Ross fails the Bechdel test, what a piece of shit am i right?

Please, this discussion can wait for my thread about the Bechdel test.

Those metrics just annoy me because people assume it's an actual pass/fail system where if something fails it's automatically bad instead of just a tool to spark discussion.

>Twilight is feminist now
wait what? weren't all of these idiots claiming it glorified abusive relationships?

Slap Shot or Everybody Wants Some!!!

Yes, it's kind of weird how the actual writer didn't intend it that way but you have nutcases on both sides either calling her a self-important dyke or worshipping her as if she's some sort of scholar who developed the ultimate test for determining a story's quality.

I only saw the first one but it seemed to only glorify being a dumb cunt.

...

Sweatervest girl the MVP.

this is retarded. 12 angry men is possibly the greatest screenplay of all time and yet it fails. what a shitty dick test.

The teacher says it doesn't actually indicate if it's a feminist movie or not though. From the 2 strips posted so far it seems pretty neutral.

>worshipping her as if she's some sort of scholar who developed the ultimate test for determining a story's quality.
That's kind of an inevitable problem when you have a social movement that's driven (at least publicly) by a very vocal group that doesn't actually understand the terms they're using, or the nuances of the subject they're talking about.

Most of the tumblr sphere is a prime example of "a little bit of knowledge is a dangerous thing." These are people think reading a blog post or taking a survey class in college makes them an expert on gender discussion. It fucking doesn't, as a person whose actually had to study those topics at pretty high levels, the vast majority of what I see relating to it is cringeworthy. But internet feminists are by far not alone in being guilty of that.

When I found out that this girl is a Protestant Christian and the main character I suddenly understood why Sup Forums likes this comic so much.

The thing is, the Bechdel Test is not, and never was supposed to be an indicator of whether or not a movie is good, just whether or not it is "feminist" however you choose to take that.

The problem is that dumb roasties took it and ran with it to where now it's hailed as some test about whether a movie is good or not. The belief that a movie like Lawrence of Arabia is a bad movie because it doesn't pass a test which itself was only ever intended as just a political jab about female representation.

Debbie Does Gomorrah was better desu

Snatch
>fails Bechdel test
>two speaking female roles
>one gets murdered
>one unnamed in a single scene
>both strong women without being "strong women"

Also forgot
>shit flick

If the goal is to disrupt class I'd say The Man Show and insist that its a movie

If I was being genuine I'd say Ghost World

Venus in Fur, it will blow their minds.

I don't think the people who talk about Lawrence of Arabia have even watched it. Look at this guy. Do you think he's seen it?

If I liked Wilson, will I like Ghost World?

Most likely

Rear Window
the remake

Master and Commander

Drive

Drive passes the Bechdel test.

Is Drive a feminist film?

Why is Dorothy such a bitch?

Is the film worth it? I fear it's gonna completely ruin the book for me.

Irreversible

...

No it doesn't. It has 2 women but they don't speak to each other.

At some point you need to teach yourself to separate your thoughts on a film from your thoughts on the book so you may as well start with this one.

Ikiru
Wild Strawberries
Coraline

Like I said, it doesn't pass it. Next.

The Bechdel test website says it passes it.

>That's kind of an inevitable problem when you have a social movement that's driven (at least publicly) by a very vocal group that doesn't actually understand the terms they're using, or the nuances of the subject they're talking about.
This is literally group in modern day identity politics. None of them know what the term "liberal" means, none of them understand what the left and right refer to and no one knows what pure capitalism would be.
The real redpill is realising that everyone's a fucking moron and the people at the top profit regardless as long there's argument

It sounds good in theory but never really works. I enjoyed the HHGFTG and had a whole different image of everything in my head. After the movie came out I couldn't imagine anything differently than what the director decided it looks like, also since the movie was shit I couldn't unsee it and it ruined everything.

But it doesn't. Exchange of pleasantries is not a conversation. Next.

>Yeah, I don't even think it passes the letter of the test. "About something besides a man." means a conversation that has a topic that is not a man. "Hi"/"How are you?"/"Fine" is not a conversation about a topic, it is an exchange of pleasantries.

I think the best movies are ones that don't pass the Bechdel Test

That is really strange that you use that example in particularly because that movie changes the book so drastically that I have no trouble imagining the book differently and separating it from the movie. So I really do think it's a thing you can learn. Guess it's just harder for some than it is for others.

STOP SAYING NEXT.

Everybody clapped

But honestly Debbie Does Dallas is femkino and has a tight central narrative. It also passes the Bechdel test.

this

...

Fetish Fucks 2.

Lots of women like it because Ryan Gosling is a dreamboat so yeah it is probably a feminist film.

How can people read this shit without cringing?

I too browse the cringe sub for the latest and greatest cringe material.

>Detroit
>fails Bechdel test
Lulz

based chad

>take that liberal elite
Holy shit I want to blow my brains out

Just realized this creeper in the comic looks like Tycho from Penny Arcade and she punches him in the face. This is a great comic.

I might a degenerate but the porn spinoffs are great they're even made by the same cartoonist

Imagine my disappointment though when I thought the porn WAS the strip itself, and read through some couple dozen of the strip waiting for the fucking to start up before realizing there was no fucking to be had. Just an endless of sea lol so quirky sanctimoniousness, not even an off panel handy

They're not wrong

Is that an actual joke?

The Bechdel test was never "supposed" to be anything but a premise for a comic strip. People talk about "The Bechdel Test" as some kind of authoritative source like Alison Bechdel was an academic heavyweight pioneering feminist theory instead of a lesbian cartoonist.

Last Tango in Paris

...

I've heard about this movie before but wow that is one of the worst designed posters I have ever seen.

t.brainlet

late 90's didn't have a very strong poster game.
Nonetheless, gattaca is pure kino, and unlike most modern sci-fi, it is smart without being pseudointellectual, overblown or pretentious. Also it doesn't include time travel. I'd say the only bad thing about this movie is Ethan. and he's not even that bad in this.

How do they know if it passes the test if they haven't seen it yet?

It's an aesthetically pleasing poster, it just doesn't give anyone any idea of what the movie is about other than "science"

I actually like Ethan Hawke so I am surprised he would be considered a bad thing. Nevertheless, I'll check it out.

I disagree on this, it looks like something a first year graphic designer would come up with.

...

They use the handy website bechdeltest.com.

Twilight Eclipse does not pass the test.

bechdeltest.com/view/1234/the_twilight_saga:_eclipse/

There is plenty of discussion on this.

>watch 4months, 3 weeks, 2 days
>no scene with two men talking
This is problematic.
Obviously a sexist movie.

Feminist theory tackling the big issues

fpbp

Isn't that the same artist who made this?

I've never seen anybody try to claim movies are problematic or bad or whatever just for not passing the bechdel, except that catty thing feminist chicks do where a guy says he thinks lesbians are trying to kill all men and she goes "That's right we DO want to kill all men what are you gonna do about it!! >:)" just to get a rise out of him

Yeah.

> I unironically paid to study Marxism

What did he mean by this ?

Pic-related, of course.
What's that, you've never seen it before but claim it's misogynistic and are now failing me?

Seriously though it's a great movie, very eye-opening even for somebody who already knew feminism was shit. It's on Amazon Prime if you haven't seen it yet. Trailer:

fuck that pic gets me rock hard everytime it's posted. sauce? google gets me nothing.
