It's easy to see why Drive became so popular on this board. The nearly anachronistic story of the guy saving the girl and riding off into the sunset is something Sup Forums feels is practically lost in film these days. But, it's not. The majority of films being made are still about white guys being the hero. So why do people act like that's not true? Just because there's a few that aren't?

It became popular because the Driver is autistic, and Sup Forums is one of the most autistic boards on this site my man

Completely misunderstood film. Driver was supposed to be the bad guy, werewolf kind of predator of the night. Look up for the interviews about the film.

If you don't like films in which a white guy is the hero, I would advise you to move to a non-White country.

Because Sup Forums only watches the fecal matter that mainstream Hollywood serves to them on a plate

Why should anyone like a movie about a white guy risking his life for a race-mixing single-mother?

Is that the type of woman people on Sup Forums aspire for?

>the majority of movies being made are action movies

You mean "archetypal"?

Careful Mr Post-Modernism, Death of the Author is your butt buddy.

..but he didn't ride off into the sunset with her. He got stabbed in the fucking gut in a parking lot and drove off bleeding to death.

As for the love interest, she pretty much sees him as crazy after seeing him stomp some dude's face in an elevator.

>Drive
>mainstream

No, that's not really why drive is popular on this board, or in general.

It's because Drive brought a contemplative, almost meditative athmosphere and pacing and an idiosyncratic use of colout to a gangster story, a genre that doesn''t usually have that sort of feeling to it.

...

oscar's character was caucasian, that's all that matters in the grand scheme of things.

Have you even watched Drive?

Drive was popular because the MC was a severe autist, which Sup Forums could relate to.

Are you joking user?

she went back to his apartment later but he was already gone.
>brutally killed an armed man with his bare hands (feet) to protect her
>implying she wasn't wet as a waterfall
the most important tragedy of our time

I'm not, it's a Cannes movie ffs

Drive was a deconstruction of action movie tropes, if not a satire.

The Driver's character is intentionally a hollow collection of tropes, and his violent acts are meant to provoke horror and revulsion, in tandem with excitment.

Basically, Refn is forcing you to consider the guy in real-world terms, while simultaneous enjoying him as a movie trope, which forces you to be more aware of the difference between a person and a character.

Drive is basically N'est pas une pipe: The Movie. Yes, this is postmodernism, so put that in your fucking bowl and smoke it.

>literally the most popular film festival in existence

How is it a deconstruction of action movie tropes in any conceivable way?

>bad guy
>predator
no. he was dual natured, the film was about his true nature overcoming what he wanted to be like; see the frog and scorpion parable

>implying film festivals aren't indie in nature

Cannes most definitely isn't

Can't I just enjoy the movie without having to dissect it? I enjoyed it a LOT more than The Nice Guys.

WHAT? Is this just really bad bait?

>all that "muh deconstruction" bullshit
>all that reddit spacing
Fuck off.

No, Sup Forums likes Drive because the Driver is quiet a lot and they feel like they can identify with him even though their quiet periods aren't cool at all and just plain creepy. Also Sup Forums watches a lot of porn and every time after they've cum they feel like saving the porn star like the Driver saved the girl.

>HE'S WHIIIIITE

That says all we need to know about OP.

No it's about a dude who drives and gets in deep and gambles with SHAWRKS

postmodernists are so used to having to explain why something is "art" that the moment true art comes to them they react in the same way as when they see something they pretend it's art. They have to dissect because if they didn't do that they'd see that the stuff they praise so much is garbage.

>stares blankly

Like America? Done.

...

America.

But that guys analysis of the movie wasn't postmodernist and the idea of a film being art isn't postmodern at all

>movie about autist who falls in love with sandburner and then raises my wife's son
Great premise
