If anyone is interested in great white northern indy stuff
Canadian Toons on TCM right now
>started an hour and a half ago
Fuck. All the other movie channels play the same shit over and over but Turner only plays anything once and are too busy shilling their wines and magazines to let you know when anything cool will be airing.
it's Oh Canada all over again
What the hell happened in that first short?
>watch a minute
>immediately get annoyed
no thank you Canada
was canada's film council just a covert way of subsidizing french canada?
all these shorts are french
fuckin Québécois
They spent 20 minutes shilling their wine in the middle of it too, it was pissing me off
is this sawing shit a metaphor for something?
The screaming cat has always been comedy gold for me
I'd watch them if it weren't so late already
did the film board stop making shorts in the early 90s?
why is it always this batch that gets on tv?
did johnny test kill canadian short films?
lmao no its all about birling down and down white water, the log drivers waltz pleases girls completely.
Have you looked at Canadian cinema? Most of the better stuff that comes out is from Quebec. It's almost embarrassing for the rest of the country
Talks about how funny Canadians are yet has yet to show a funny short. It's all like film school art shorts
Nickelodeon used to show that short where the couple died in between their shows in the 80's
go to tpb and download Kids in the Hall.... thank me later.
I don't have TCM but whatever is on there right now sounds like garbage
I switched to the channel just now, but have they been playing ads over and over again this entire time?
Here is the NFB website:
nfb.ca
I think most of these are available to watch, but there might be a region lock. I can't recommend anything because I haven't watched many
TCM usually doesnt interrupt their shows for ads, this is real fuckin weird
They also got a youtube channel.
youtube.com
>one day tcm will show 'significant american shorts of the 90s' and it'll just be the 'what a cartoon' show in new packaging
>The Sweater 148,369 views
:(
Cat Came Back in HD
youtube.com
Have they played "the Sand Castle" yet? Would that count?
The ending is so ripped off from Warner Brothers shorts.
>not feeding the cat antifreeze
step up your game, son
Have they they shown "To Be"? That was probably the O Canada short that stuck with me the most.
So, what did I miss?
This right now
youtube.com
Whole bunch of abstract nonsense. The only ones I remember or saw before were 'Logrider's Waltz', 'The Big Snit', and 'The Cat Came Back'
Also, 'The Sweater', which they used in that 'Skooks' thing on youtube.
Wish this thread was posted earlier.
why does a laundromat keep a jar of bug eggs
Because that's how they roll in Norway.
>Also, 'The Sweater', which they used in that 'Skooks' thing on youtube
FUG
>Also, 'The Sweater', which they used in that 'Skooks' thing on youtube.
Do you mean
>GO TO THE CHURCH AND ASK GOD TO FUG YOU
Yes
That's the one.
What the fuck was that just now?
And suddenly, Bob & Margaret
>Bob's Birthday
Hey, I thing I remember seeing this as a kid.
Winner of the 1994 Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film, by the way.
Or maybe I saw it on Youtube. I can't remember anything other than that I saw this in the past.
It became a four season long tv show, so you may have caught an episode
I wonder if they'll censor Bob's dick.
nope!
LOL
I think I may have seen it on Cartoon Network's "O Canada".
damnit bob
Comedy Central also aired it on O Canada but with a maple leaf over Bob's dick.
didnt canada used to have a requirement that like 75% of tv airtime had to be domestically-produce content?
As someone who likes to camp up north, fuck Blackflies and Horseflies
en.wikipedia.org
It changes constantly. Canadian stations like Much (think MTV) usually offload Canadian music videos in the morning, then air US stuff at night
how does this fly in this modern age of free trade? also i wonder if this is (partly) why so many american shows are filmed in vancouver
Nice watercolors.
Ever encounter these two? They were a parody created after the CBC complained that SCTV did not have enough Canadian stuff, so they made the two most stereotypical characters ever
a similar scenario led to the addition of goemon in lupin
Low dollar and tax incentives mainly, but IIRC American productions filmed in Canada can also count towards CanCon quotas.
The animator sure likes their close-ups.
also their rotoscoping
I really liked this one
That is probably way Space Channel has never really had a problem with CanCon. So much Sci-fi shit has been filmed up here that they can just offload old SG1 and Relic Hunter episodes during the daytime to hit the percents
HE SAID BOBS BURGERS
Cool, this last one was nominated for Best short film, but lost to a Russian adaptation (that was also animated in Montreal)
Well that was pretty cool, I really like that TCM does this shit every once in a while.
I just hope their thing with Disney continues. I liked the trips into the Vault.
The next one is in June, and they'll be showing "Summer Magic".
I wish it was a weekly or monthly thing; there's way too much Disney material that hasn't seen the light of day in decades.
