The Kubrick Thread

Discuss
Griffithanon not welcome

I wish more directors had the balls to have long scenes where nothing happens, or more silence between dialogue lines. They're simple things but do wonders for pacing.

I wish he was still alive so he could direct capeshit

Because people don't have the attention spams for that.

>the kubrick thread
*cringes*

i don't get it. why did the muzzies issue a fatwah on him?

Convince me to watch Barry Lyndon instead of Little Shop of Horrors right now.

reddits favorite director

Hello Mr. Kubrick, I'm Shelley Duvall

based

>I rate Kubrick

>In 1980, he told the author Michael Herr that what he wanted most was to make a film about the Holocaust, “but good luck in putting all that into a two-hour movie.” Frederic Raphael, who co-authored the screenplay for “Eyes Wide Shut,” recalls Kubrick questioning whether a film truly can represent the Holocaust in its entirety. After Raphael suggested “Schindler’s List,” Kubrick replied, “Think that’s about the Holocaust? That was about success, wasn’t it? The Holocaust is about 6 million people who get killed. ‘Schindler’s List’ is about 600 who don’t. Anything else?”

>anything i don't like is reddit

OP, you shouldn't have.
kubrick movies elicit the feels.
not always good, but they are YOUR feels.
and kubrick reminds you of that.

Would AI have been kino if Kubrick had made it?

barry lyndon is better lol
brainlets actually believe this

>baiting this hard

Maybe. I'm still skeptical though. AI is horribly overrated

>Users of one of the most browsed websites in the world have heard of one of the most widely acclaimed and popular directors in the history of the medium
2001 and The Shining are overrated, more of a Barry Lyndon guy myself XD

Can anyone tell me what this little device is that Kubrick uses? I know it must be some kind of tube to test a lens so he can see how a scene would look but I can't find it on Google

seems similar to the Newall viewfinder. probably a custom one.
>This viewfinder can be used handheld, or it can be attached to a studio camera to help the director decide on a picture composition and choice of lens.

Thanks user

whoo look at that pusy!

>Identifying Illuminati

Kubrick said that Hitler was right about everything.

...

barrry lyndon because it has this man

1. Eyes Wide Shut
2. A Clockwork Orange
3. Barry Lyndon
Prove me wrong

Is Tough Guys Don't Dance worth watching?

Nothing is Worth anything

Those digits are spooky, flat earth confirmed

holy fuuuuuuuuck i never made that connection!

>2001
The most simplistic piece of trite that has been misconstrued as false 'genius.' A work that can be summarized as "humanity killed itself and things were reborn anew." Everything else incumbent to showcasing special effects. It's a theme park ride of his envisioned future with the intellectual weight of such. No Griffith work could comparably be summarized in the same fashion. Neither a Flaherty. Both actually serve to challenge the viewer beyond coddling with displays of appropriated classical tunes Kubrick hoped would elevate his work beyond the middlebrow tripe it actually was.

You do realise that Griffith would find your attitude apalling? Having many images with strange captions like "Griffith smirks in disgust" is something he would definitely find creepy. You're mentally ill

plebbit
WHAT CAN I SAY EXCEPT YOU'RE WELCOME?!

City of Stars > How Far I'll Go

I love Stanley Kubrick and have seen most of his films multiple times, but I have never had any interest in watching Barry Lyndon again. Probably the boringest movie in existence. As if it's not bad enough Barry loses a leg and starts limping everywhere in the second half.

>boringest
brainlet wojak detected
bruce melvin never died...damn

Barry Lyndon if what you demand is satisfaction.

What the fuck are you talking about? He loses his leg in the last 10 minutes and you see him limping for 30 seconds at maximum. Fuck off

>Barry Lyndon if what you demand is casual entertainment.
FTFY

can some kind user compress criterions barry lyndon to like 3-6 GBs please?

What separates mediocre and good director?

There is nothing good in Griffith's oeuvre. Good is an insult to his genius. Good is an insult to his audience. Good is middling, good is mediocre. Good is Stanley Kubrick. Griffith is not Stanley Kubrick, Griffith transcends denominations.

Moon landing was his best work.
People still believe it to be real.

Griffith brought us reality. Griffith never had to use tricks to rouse performance. He had innate control as reality bows to Griffith, not the other way around

To Griffin user,

didn't you read the OP?

What do you think of Griffith's talkie films?

You're actively making me not want to watch any D.W. Griffith film.

Genes don't come to you, you're born with them.

Why did you ignore my question?

Excellent.

>historical revisionism
GREAT!
you engage in it, griffithpedo engages in it, d.w griffith engages in it, film historians engage in it, marx engages in it
fucking dope!

How the fuck did he thought everything through?

He reckognized the atrocities of his people and got killed for it.

All in his head.

Look who's late to the thread....AGAIN
can you try to make an effort?

Why do dumdums that say Barry Lyndon looks like a moving painting, always use the same few frames.

Show me a painting that looks like this

Would you genuinely hang this on your wall?

I didn't know paintings had shallow depth-of-field :/

give it a rest.
worse than a broken record

watched Eyes Wide Shut just last night
while taking several hits from the gravity bong

i tried to pick it apart
to over analyze it

and i noticed a few things

Voyeurism
"Just a Glance" - Alice
Escalation of transgressions
Imagination and perceived transgressions
Journey into the Underworld
Willful over? sexualization of females

Who's eyes are wide shut?

Christmas trees in every location except for the underworld/secret society

Red is mostly an interior color
Blue being the exterior light
also color of door to Underworld and Bills apartment

The cuckolding and constant blue balling of Bill
imagined or otherwise

its not everything of course, just things i noticed

Seems like Griffith was Tesla of movies.
I wish i'd be pioneer.

>WAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH GRIFFIN SUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

what does this even mean

you should start a regular "Gravity Bong film reviews" on here, there was a lot of insight in this little piece

search outside hollywood shit

would you rather be a cuckold or a fool?

...

I think we can all agree that Shining was trash, even worse than the book.

Posting EVA and not Lain. Shit taste, desu.

>I think we can all agree
No

Why was Kubrick the only director to respect his audience enough to think for themselves?

One of the best directors of all time

Amazing cinematography but as stories his movies are mostly average

...

>stories

...

ahead of his time

He was a man with a dream and an Idea not a movie except with a deadline and suit.

Man, Anno was truly the Kubrick of anime with that series.

>Kubrick threads are forever ruined through the work of one Turboautist diligent enough to make several hours worth of shoddy montages with dull voiceover readings of his malformed 'theories'

I genuinely love and care about you.

samefag here

on the theory of Ziegler being Red Robe Guy(Rob Ager)

Bill is pursued by two women at both parties
he is summoned by both Ziegler and Red to come to him

Zeigler/Red tell Bill what it is and what its gonna be...they are the power

Dennis Villeneuve made this, and Sup Forums shit on him.
