I especially like the third one's score overall, but the second one's cute and the first contains chunga-changa.

For any Russian-speaking 90s kid Soviet animation was like detox from Western cartoon brainwashing.

Fuck capitalism and all its masochistic supporters.

>t. white person who grew in an upscale neighborhood of a large city

Ooh, attack him as a person, not his ideas. Such a clever, original fallacy argumentum ad hominem is.

It's always fun when the shills come out so quickly.

>not his ideas
What ideas? You just said fuck capitalism, or should we just assume you're for communism?

Here's one about a talking piglet escaping his owner by joining a traveling circus entertainer. Bumbling goons included.

...well, neither does the kid from this classic "lazy student goes to the land of mislearned lessons" flick.

For those not fluent in cheeki-breeki, the highlights include geographical prowess (polar bear on the equator), excellence in biology (bread growing on trees and a carnivorous cow) splendid grammar (a comma saving him from execution) annnd pic related. Gotta love maths.

This one is quite infamous in Russia. A cartoon about basic tolerance featuring the "blue puppy" as a protagonist was seen by many as gay propaganda because at some point "blue" became slang for "gay" in Russian, and, le shock, the protagonist actually befriends a guy. And the only female character is a literal murder machine that sings a song about how she likes to cut everything.

Nevertheless, the animation style here is stunning, as everything is basically drawn from ink spots and the movements are amazing. Like, seriously, WATCH IT (the guy who uploaded it even included eng subs). I don't think I've seen any other cartoon use this technique again.

Also if this cartoon had any sort of Western cult following, there'd be shit tons of humanized/anthro art of the Black Cat character as he's basically fangirl faggotry material

Silly shenanigans in an over-imaginative, but not very bright schoolboy's head.

This 60s cartoon about the dangers of lack of art and culture in society is just as disturbing as it is beautiful. The initial message is actually kinda like The Yellow Submarine, but this one uses a different animation technique entirely, referencing and straight up utilizing actual works of art (the main antagonist, for example, is based off of René Magritte's works).

It was actually banned for nearly 30 years because it was seen as social commentary on the culture of USSR itself (that's why they had to add the little text at the beginning), even though the message is a bit more universal.

One of my favorites, the animation is absolutely gorgeous.

It wasn't just filmmakers, user. And that's all I'll say before someone screams Sup Forums again.

Does it count if it was made a year after the USSR dissolved?

I think yes.

Well, to this day most of the former Soviet bloc states are still sad nation-states that only export sadness, rust, and paranoia for the West, so I'd say yes.

You're sort of right there, but it is a cultural thing. Very little to do with "former Soviet bloc" vs. West.
Again, don't want to get into too much Sup Forums discussion, but felt the record should be corrected.

youtube.com/watch?v=gq2h5hb3Ekw

Need help remembering a Russian (I think) cartoon. Many years ago I watched Shock Video on HBO, which showcased porn from all over the world. One episode had a Russian animation where this toy dinosaur inflates himself to full size to try to fuck this big titty blonde chick. He uses his tail as a dick and motions for her to suck it. So she titfucks it a bit and starts fellating the tip, then pulls out the cork with her teeth, deflating the dino like a balloon.

I know I didn't dream this, but I can't find it anywhere on the internet.

It's cute, but I always hated how it gets physics wrong several times. It's supposed to be educational or what?

Soviet Mowgli is still my favorite. Animation and VA is great, music and visual are pretty trippy

>An interesting thing about this cartoon and the whole Russian translation of Jungle Book. Bageera, originally a male character, was made female in Russian because the Russian for "panther", "пaнтepa", is feminine, and "Bageera" sounds feminine to a Russian person

It's a New Year's staple in our house.
The pace and the guy's attitude still make me ROTFL.

>George Lucas said that Russian filmmakers had more freedom of expression than Hollywood. As long as you did not criticise the Russian government or socialism

In capitalism animated series have to SELL first and foremost. This heavily dictates not only the thematic (superheroes or something else marketable to kids mostly) and format (for syndication's sake you series MUST be episodic) but also the content (toyetic nature of many series) and ironically censorship from Standards and Practices.

Soviet state directly subsidised main film studios of all soviet republics and made sure to include a budget for animated divisions of these studios.

So cartoon creators didn't have to sell toys or sell at all as products and were relatively free to pick any subject, as long as you didn't criticised the regime, obv. If it has educational or entertainment value -- you can do it. Still, overwhelming majority were still of kiddy nature and/or adaptations of various fairy tales.

However, state budget also allowed for "adult cartoons", as in shorts with adult themes that children would simply not get due to subjects but still can hold some cultural value. These shorts usually were shown late at night on state tv.

Like for example a short satirising gender roles:
youtube.com/watch?v=YkdhJWyzFR8
Or a short about non-conformism and "dead artists":

> was seen by many as gay propaganda because at some point "blue" became slang for "gay" in Russian
That is misleading. Such slang appeared far later than cartoon came out. "Blue" is a "dream" colour there. Ergo Puppy represents dreamy, modest and misunderstood person in general. Authors said it themselves in the interview.

Simlish-speaking plasticine boxers

That's because the only future for artist was drawing retarded banners with communist propaganda and killing yourself on some shitty job. In cartoons you could just go nuts with your art and actually get paid for this. This is why every soviet cartoon have more art then appeal. Yeah well and lack of capitalism did the job too, I guess. It's like you can have nice things with capitalism, but those things pretty much always not what they're supposed to be.

>That's because the only future for artist was drawing retarded banners with communist propaganda and killing yourself on some shitty job.
You sure you're not talking about capitalism there? I mean, the starving artist is a meme now...

man i am so high

Bread lines weren't a thing until the 90s, when capitalism took over. Thus your comment is stupid.

Bread lines were also a thing in America, during the Great Depression. You know, the first time unchecked capitalism fucked the whole country over.

Its not surprising. This band is called Dune, after all.

ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/Товарный_дефицит_в_СССР

Its true but on other hand the state almost hasn't subsided "empty" cartoons, cartoons without cultural and artistic value.
Thus in USSR there were so few action oriented or pure comedy cartoons.
There were many state of art cartoons, but almost no mainstream/just-for-fun.

There was "Hedgehog in the Fog" but wasn't "Darkwing duck"

Excellent! No propaganda to screw with developing minds and cause the shitstorm we see in the USA.

This is one of my favourites, incredibly trippy

This applies to all economies. It's called being out of stock.

On another note, that link is terrifyingly hideous.

It applies to the cases when it fucking happened. You said it didn't happen in the USSR.
