great job

not much to say at the moment, but heres a bump

what can one do to overcome writtings block?

also we should create some sort of community here beyond posting in the same thread, something like Hive whatever, the group that does porn... I think

there's a discord, I'm told.
Some of us network a little by doing each other fanart, that's always a thing

as for writer's block, it helps me to watch something really engaging that gets my brain working. it can be as much as a movie or as little as a familiar theme song I haven't heard in years.

The most common advice I heard was to just write.

I found that when I have an idea, instead of ignoring it or just wait for a better mood, few noodle looking gesture might trigger something.
As you start think how to show this or that often something clicks and it often develops into something more or into an idea for a new project.

Also doing small things life few panels just showing something whatever that is.

You can try to pull out the old project and try to do it in absence of a new ideas.
Sometimes it triggers something.

I'v been stuck in development hell for ages. Meanwhile some literal autist is nearing his 500th comic page and people are loving it.
Pic related.

user, you should try to break out of dev hell and just get your comic started. It won't be perfect, but noting you make ever will be. The more comics you make the more you'll learn and the easier it will be to make comics after that. Plus, you can always go back and redo old pages.
It's better to have made something decent then to have made nothing at all.

bump

I want to work on my comic, but I'm so exhausted I can barely sit up. Medical procedures suck.

that they do, old bean. just be glad your hobby isn't athletic.
I suggest additional support in your chair, maybe even something under the desk to rest your feet on. Or if you have a tablet-monitor (or conversely if you work in analog) you can do that shit in bed. either way, leaaan the fuck back, and let yourself drift off if you need to. that half-asleep exhausted from medical shit state can produce some fantastic creativity

Yeah. Problem is they sticked my dominant hand, so writing and drawing is a hassle. The arm can move, it just really doesn't want to. Good idea to brainstorm, though. Will try it out.

>sticked
what, you've got an IV in it?

but yeah, make it brainstorm time.
or borrow from future drawing time and just indulge in fun shit instead. like if i couldnt draw today i'd just videogames all day today and then draw two days from now when I had videogames scheduled

Got an idea for a comic when I remembered this poster. Just a comic about WW2 psychic soldiers. I was thinking of making a bunch of different one off stories and the final would be Hiroshima and Nagasaki were psychically awakening Japanese PoWs, then they escape back to Japan in an effort to save the cities, however they actually were implanted with the ideas of the Atomic bombs which don't actually exist. But they cause the ideas they're implanted with to become a reality when America stages a false bomb drop.

oh that is crazy. that's a neat complex coverup situation. I think I still don't fully understand it actually. Go with it, man

Sounds ridiculous, you might want to be a little touchy so you don't get too distasteful, but at the same time I like that premise.

Yeah, I had an MRI with contrast. It was not fun, to say the least. The brainstorming has been quite productive, however.

at least you're in good company. I don't know a single famous writer who hasn't gone through extensive medical shit

>what can one do to overcome writtings block?
Ingest lots of other art and media. Watch cartoons and anime, watch movies, read books, read comics, think about which tropes you enjoy and how to mess with them, take stories that do stuff you don't like and do what you wish they did, think of things you like that never get combined and combine them.

>he doesn't "get" Tails Gets Trolled

Not sure people would appreciate a comic about how the Japanese actually caused Hiroshima.

>Only making comic to have more work for when apply for internships
>Don't want to code my own website
>Don't want to put comic on some deviantart-tier fanfiction shithole for mongoloids
>Best option I'm thinking of is the tumblr webcomic theme

Formulate other options.

Trying to develop some characters.

>Don't want to code my own website
You really don't have to. You can use wordpress, which has a webcomic plugin that works pretty well.

takes me back to the ol' aggro crag
glad to see you're still around. yeah I think this develops them a bit. one tries, the other conquers

Is it better to use black outlines or no outlines?

like, it depends, man. sometimes colored outlines are the best.. sometimes

>no outlines

you wanna ripoff samurai jack?

>tfw enjoy worldbuilding and character design more than writing stories

Nice, loving these character designs, they remind me a lot of Adventure Time.

Getting flashbacks of Korok in Breathe of the wild...
>Yahaha...

You remember me? I haven't posted here for a few months!

it's funny, i love making characters up, but worldbuilding by itself seems like something i'd enjoy getting PAID to do. the rest of the time it just feels like a lot of dumb flailing and wasted effort to make up things like this, NPCs and stuff.
anyway I fucking love these guys. whatchu callin em? shyblins?

well your style is distinctive and I remember confusing you for someone else

Thanks man. I get that comment from time to time.
theyre definitely an inspiration. Ive loved those guys sonce WW
Not really sure yet. Ive just been calling them plant folk. I eventually want to get enough material for a conceptual field guide kinda book.

It's distinctive but you mistook it for someone else?

Mine began as versus battle between rip off Dante and rip off Sailor Moon just to see who wins.

Funny enough, a decade later, Dante vs Bayonetta shows up.

Just don't get too obsessed in remaking your first as people usually come to comics for a story continuation and not a retelling of what they already know.

>not the ones in wind waker
gotta be 18 blah blah etc
but yeah those guys are great. of course they owe a lot from ghibli and doki doki panic among others.
>plant folk
cmon you can do better than that. agrizens! xyloids! barklings!
funny how that happens aint it? weird thing is, comparing your stuff side by side, it's not that similar.. which leads me to believe i'm confusing you not only with that person but with you from earlier. have you ever posted on Sup Forums regularly before these threads?

A ton of my comicry derives from old tenchi-sailormoon-dbz roleplay my friends and I used to do
i miss having friends

Well user, you just need to not be a self entitled, judgmental douchebag and you'll find someone to chill with.

>have you ever posted on Sup Forums regularly before these threads?
I've only ever shared my stuff in these threads, and I haven't been active since January. I'm not going to profess that my comics or art syle is original, but I have been working out these characters for a long time now.

ahem, this is a low kb version, HD version tomorrow!

FATES CHAOS will launch on its own website and everywhere else as soon as I make a cover page for it! I hope yall like this remake of my FATES project which was all over the place, FATES CHAOS is super focused and a lot more well written by me, I have 3 arcs planned, each arc is 12 chapters long and each chapter is anywhere from 20 to 40 pages long!

sketchbook pro, original characters and original story!

on a side note, spent all day yesterday writting the best script i ever wrote in my life for DEMON FUSE, i have ascended to god like script writting and no you cant see it, because its pure fucking legendary gold! the story, the characters, the weapons, the powers, the lore, its fucking so good it blows my mind every time i think about it and what i got finished writing

my DEMON FUSE is fucking a poetic work of art, its a perfect master piece! I cant even describe it its so good!

fun fact i drew and colored this page in several different styles and coloring techniques until i finally decided to go with a really comic booky looking copic marker coloring style like in the official finished page

heres a sloppy quick painting style i even tried on it one time yesterday, its faster and easier to do than copic coloring but it looks like sloppy shit... but it has a kind of charm to it that no one will ever see now :(

oh well

>tfw exact opposite problem
>tfw I know nothing about geography and how to makes maps
>tfw I just want to write my story, but I still need to learn all this other shit

Bump

Oh yeah, tell me about it. This is one test in a long line of many. Hopefully they don't find any tumors.

Feeling a lot better today. Time to press onward! Maybe I'll post something if I make substantial progress.

I ONLY read webcomics with cute girls in them. If you want me to read your webcomics, there'd better be some cute girls!!!

How about a cute wanna-be witch?

and its ready to launch now... after i make an icon and some banners :/

Left to right is Beelfreeze Stardust(age 20), Fairune Stardust(age 12), Fera Stardust(age 16), Barron Stardust(age 8), Mayor Winsten, Jainy Stardust(age 36), and Janik Stardust(age36)

*Jainy gave birth to Bellfreeze ate age 16 incase anyone was wondering.

*in the main story starting on chapter 2 the main character Fera Stardust is 21 years old, chapter 1 starts 5 years ago so everyone that doesnt die in chapter 1 ages 5 years for the main story!

are... are mine cute enough senpai?

...

oh fuck! i will fix this when i go home, shit

thanks for pointing this out

the idea was that the stardust family was all touching each other showing their bond as a family

>Barron
You're as unoriginal as Dewd my man

I don't see the problem

this was before the trump campaign run and presidency, the idea of Jainy naming her youngest son Barron was because she lives in a Baron sci-fi-wasteland, no relation to trumps Barron

also baron as in jainy felt like she couldnt have anymore kids after barron because 4 is enough am i right?

lmfao! i recorded myself drawing this start to finish, from blank page to finished colors, i will upload it tonight after it renders and after i record myself fixing the hand out of nowhere mistake

i made the page in 30 minutes or less probably a little over 20 minutes maybe start to finish

this is an older drawing but this is what Fera and Fairune look like when they they grow up

*fairune left, Fera right

Question,

what are your thoughts on a comic that's kinda like harry potter in that it deals with witches, wizards, and other magic beings attending a magic school accept it actually deals heavily in the tensions between magic and non magic users?

and this is the weapons they use, original scifi western weapons made up by me! i need to make a digital colored version of this now that i think about it...

What kind of conflicts will they have? Are the non-magic users at a severe disadvantage to magic users? Do magic users learn science and math in school (beyond algebra, if we're talking Harry Potter universe here)?

So the biggest conflict is going to be against Witch hunter factions which are still around and active. That being said they're comparable more to the KKK in modern terms of numbers and influence. The school is an all Magic users school that in addition to teaching magic and shit they also teach normal school curriculum. The school it's located on the outskirts of a German city so everyone knows it's there and of course there's always problems where students wander off campus and cause mischief that creates tension.

Then you just need to write in a way that doesn't require geography.

Fire Punch is written in a way that you need no knowledge of geography and because the setting is in a frozen world, the empty space works.

Any relation to the super wizard Stardust?

>Witch hunters

You have my interest

I hope I'm not making you reveal too much, but what are the motives behind witch hunter factions? I think it might be interesting to include witch hunters that are also witches, and maybe a good explanation as to how magic works in this universe.

Magic vs. Non-magic
>The Irregular at Magic High School (anime)
Also focuses a lot on weaponry, the magic vs. non-magic conflict here was kind of boring actually, but they attempted to make it realistic. Maybe you take a look at this to see how a committee might handle conflict between magic and non-magic users.
>Dorohedoro (manga)
Magic comes from magic glands in the body, which some non-magic users harvest to get some magic ability. Non-magic users are at the mercy of magic users, and are often used as guinea pigs so magic users can get better as using magic. I think this manga handles the conflicts really well, just because you have a good mix of people wanting different things.
>Harry Potter and the method of Rationality (fanfiction)
The author had some interesting ideas about how magic worked. I didn't finish it, but there was this one part where he described magic as sort of like a program that required the correct pronunciation and I guess wand movement to activate. If you didn't do it the way it was taught, then it just didn't work, like if you add an extra space in front a line. He also gave us Malfoy's perspective on why he hated mudbloods/squibs, in that mixing with them would decrease magic ability and eventually wipe out magic.

I guess what I'm trying to get at is, what warranted the need to build a witch hunter faction?
Also, only witches? Does that include guys?

>I hope I'm not making you reveal too much

Not at all.

So in this setting about 20% of the population can use magic in some capacity.
Basically these factions are the remainders of the various inquisitions that spread across Europe and the Americas during the middle ages. Each one in the modern world has their own philosophy on how to deal with magic users. Some use violence while others use political methods. The worst of them all, and the main antagonists, named "The Ninth Ward" are the remains of the Spanish Inquisition. They not only believe that any magic user should be killed but anyone who shares their bloodline should be killed as well.

How magic works I haven't really nailed down.

Yes, it includes guys.

Sounds cool, lots of room in there for some alternate history and what not. Can I see some of your drawings? I'd like to get my hopes up but I need to see where the skills are at.

I'm just the writer. My friend is doing the art.

Sorry.

I'll see about having him send me the art when he's off work. Hopefully this thread is still here.

low kb quick fix

I guess I'm just failing to see the reason to hunt witches. Religious reasons? They're too wary of witches?
How about something like, non-magic users ask magic users to help them with difficult tasks. Some are okay with it, some aren't. Technology improves and becomes more dependent on the use of magic. Then the overall tone shifts and witches become a little more arrogant, like, why should we help these people when we get so little back (what would they get back? livestock? some rare plant? first born? maybe all witches are sterile? is magic a genetic trait?)? So maybe they start asking for more things, or unreasonable things, and this creates tension on the relationship between magic and non-magic users. They start seeing each other in a less humane light, because non-magic users see witches as a source of energy or something and witches see non-magic users as a source of income.
At the same time, frontier technology is being developed without the dependency of magic. I can imagine some wealthy guy working with other wealthy people plotting to take down witches and line their pockets. What better way to use the tension between magic users and non-magic users to fuel the witch hunt. They can trick inquisitors by painting it for a religious purpose, so now you got the witch hunts.

Pam is a graceful creature.

is that a 13" Cintiq?

It's a lightbox and paper you fool

>I guess I'm just failing to see the reason to hunt witches. Religious reasons? They're too wary of witches?
Basically religion for the most part since most of the remaining witch hunting factions are traced back to the inquisitions. For the most part magic users are accepted. You'll see a few other groups who are against them because of the "have/have not" dynamic.

Cheers, user

god, I wish I had the money to draw my comics on paper.

God, I wish I could draw.

Didn't you draw this with a tablet? Unless you live in a place where your currency is pretty worthless, paper is not that expensive.

A necessity for watercolours, unfortunately!

She's a qt

...

Continuing the arc. Here's Wilfreda's first day at work.

She tried.

I used to do everything traditionally until I had to move and leave all my supplies out of state in a storage unit, now I'm stuck with a crappy tablet and have become pretty dependent on digital and all the crappy filters I shouldn't be using. It's cheaper at least.

I currently draw with a really bad 4x4 inch tablet. I draw significantly worse on tablet, but have to get over it if I want to get anything done.

Can anyone give me tips on designing, like props and background, like a direction to wander towards? Sorry about the vague question, but I'm just kinda lost here.

So where does everyone do their Sketches, doodles, plot summaries and so on?

I usually put everything in one of those hipster moleskin blank notebooks.
I also don't write hardly any plot summaries, I just do a little sketch or illustration as a visual que...

wew draft's done.

microsoft word and I never doodle because I'm a terrible person that doesn't want to put in the work to improve.

I just doodle and do sketches to:
A. keep rough track of my characters and idears
B. be able to better convey how I want things to look like on the off chace that I one day meet an artist to colaborate with.

Is that ESP?
I love abilities like that. Especially the floating, there's a lot of creative stuff you can do with it. Since Akira and Elfenlied became more popular int the west it's mostly characters standing totally idle while crushing stuff with their mind when ESP gives so much opportunity for unique types of movement...

That's a very basic question user.
Get photoalbums if you want to learn about specific backgrounds: architecture, landscapes, cities - just look on amazon for the most popular ones and you'll likely find a torrent somewhere.

If you want more general inspiration watch some movies that focus entirely on environments: I'd recommend Samsara and Koyaanisqatsi.
Have fun.

blog post incoming but.
alot of my inspiration comes from one piece, and one of my favorite aspects of it is the interesting ways the characters move, or enter scenes.
>pic related
one of the reasons Pam has ESP ability's is for an excuse for fun movement of herself and objects.

Its a time saver aswell. in the original draft, I spent an entire page pulling the different objects out of the box. displaying them one by one. but I found it more fun to just display them all at once, while also showing off that pam relies on her powers too much a problem that becomes one of her character arcs.

I'm so sick of this. I try to write a plot outline and somehow end up writing an extract from an in-universe religious/metaphysical treatise with no real relevance to the story. I try to come up with an interesting character and end up writing about the social structure of the character's race instead. I'm just too autistic for this shit.

...

in practice world building is fun as hell.
then I start drawing maps/locations. and it goes downhill from there.

dawww
Just make the magic cool fantasy magic and/or authentic historical ideas about magic, and not gay british babies ideas of magic with wands and pointy hats and silly words

.. i mean pointy hats are okay, they have legit historical value.. but you should know that before using them.

and wands are okay as long as they're the size of a maglite or larger. i like ones with gems in the end, or a weirdly curved-over-end of a wooden branch.

and cloaks are just cool in general but you get what i mean
