Is crossed worth reading?

Is crossed worth reading?

Does violence get you hard? Then yes. If not, then no.

A little bit of it.

It's extremely graphic and violent and bloody, so no. There's no one to even ship.

HORSE COCK

not really

The first trade is worth it. The stuff that comes after that turns into an edge fest (The first trade is a self contained story)

Good series

Tons of people get turned off because of the edginess

I just like my post apocalyptic stories with a different scenario

>implying half of Sup Forums don't get off on violence

Where is that implied anywhere in my binary split, user?

>split a group in two
>"implying that group isn't split in two hue hue hue"

user there is well done violence and then there's this. It's like a handjob with greasy rubber gloves. You feel worse after than before.

"Crossed: Wish you were here" was pretty enjoyable. The only part of it I didnt like was the seizure rape and the retard somehow being alive.

No.

I dig it. I make a point to buy all the trades.

Crossed: Wish you were here and Crossed +100 are good, everything is pretty much just edgy garbage.

Honestly, the first Crossed wasn't thaaaaat bad. There were a few bursts of ultra gratuitous violence, but otherwise it wasn't too gory

The sequel comics are as bad as the series's reputation suggests though.

This.

>Is crossed worth reading?

No

I've actually read all of Crossed somehow so I'll give my 2c.

The first long serial is a decent Ennis story where he indulges himself a bit while still trying to hold to his gross-out humour and gore/real human feeling dichotomy but in a very bleak world.

All the other longer serials are crap, including the serial killer one and the webcomic. The only exception is Crossed +100 which I would unreservedly say is good. It's still Crossed, got all those elements, and you'll get more out of it if you're familiar with the regular stuff.

The long running single issues/short stories series (I think this is Badlands?) is highly variable. These tend to be more comedic and more out there. Some of these stories are outright bad but some are interesting and there's definitely a level of entertainment value to be had here. The serial killer sequel story here is actually better than the original. The entirely serious ones are probably the worst Badlands ones.

Other minor notes: visually, the most horrifying stuff in Crossed tends to be on the cover illustrations. And reading a lot of Crossed will quickly immunize you to being shocked by it. The most damning indictment of the whole Crossed franchise is probably that nobody part of it did any of their best work in it.

what's the most gruesome one?

buried in mountains of edge just for the sake of edgelords is usually a decent premise but honestly probably not worth your time

Crossed: Psychopath

>calling the webcomic crap
Gonna have to disagree completely on that one

Psychopath really was shit.

I dunno, the webcomic (Wish You Were Here) wasn't A-tier writing or anything, but it's a coherent story and character arc and one of the few instances of a... well 'happy' obviously isn't the right word for the ending, 'cathartic' maybe?

So many stories in Crossed end with edgy bad ends or stupid asspulls and while the ending to WYWH isn't amazing, it at least felt like a satisfactory conclusion - all the major plot threads get wrapped up, the character arcs reach reasonable finales, etc.

This desu

If you downplay the edginess, then it's interesting reading

I got the whole collection, I should know

I would never pay to read it, but I usually read, when a story that I haven't red before, gets story timed. Mostly just to see what dumb and weird shit they've come up with this time.

No, it turns into the same shit every time, just edgy vomit on pages.

Fair enough. It was the last one I read so maybe I was just all Crossed out by that point and misjudged it. I'll try a more objective re-read at some point.

Crossed is just a meh gorefest. Nothing really special either way except for over the top art. Family Values was also incredibly unremarkable except for the shock value. Psychopath is where it becomes full on gore porn and is pretty much just trash. There's some decent moments where you get to see the extent to which survivors have to go to survive, but the other 90% is mostly just a slog that ends with the same breed of inconclusive and unsatisfying ending as the other two. Badlands is also mostly crap, but it actually does have some really decent stories here and there. Mattias, Quisling, The Fatal Englishman, and the Livers are all enjoyable to a certain extent. The trade off is that the lows of that run are just plain mindless.

I forget, do we get away with Crossed Storytimes of Pain or are we too blue for that.

No, it's even worse than tryhard edgy: it's just boring

To me Crossed +100 was unreadable due to their horrible attempts at future slang. My brain couldn't translate their speech patterns into coherent sentences.

No, you shit doubleposting fuck.

Crossed Badlands is pretty good, its little storys that go over a few issues and then end. Its very gorey but i did like the storys too.
Crossed +100 was pretty shitty, i didnt get far into it tho.

I've read some of it here and the first thing was pretty darn good, spooked me proper (the salt ring thing), but the farther I got the less impactful the violence/gore became. Edginess for edginess sake. The 100+ story was pretty fun and IMHO worth checking out even if for the sheer novelty of what they did (as far as "worth checking" goes with Crossed - give it a go, sure, but be aware).
Cheers.

Yes. Raulo Caceres art goes perfect on that story

What? The web comic is awesome

Did you faggots come here from Sup Forums?

I heard those madmen in Hollywood are thinking about a Crossed movie.
I know it would be shit, but I'd watch it out of morbid curiosity.

Does Avatar Press make any good comics anymore?

Only read Crossed comics written by Ennis, Gage, and Spurrier. Avoid all else.

You're welcome.

The ones worth reading are the original, Wish You Were Here and +100. +100 is probably my favorite because I'm a fan of stories where society has restructured itself after an apocalypse. Plus, figuring out the nuances of the language they use reminded me of parsing Nadsat in A Clockwork Orange. Everything else is edgelord guro bait.

No, Sup Forums. Someone made a crossed thread over there and underage Sup Forumsirgins creamed their pants over the idea of a pure goreporn comic

Anyone remember Black Gas? It's the story Ennis ripped off to make Crossed

Providence.

>+100
>unga choonga fwee fwee speak
I don't know if I have the patience for this retardation.

>apocalyptic shit going down
>Stacey bitches somehow still have painted nails 5 years in
????????

Crossed may be functionally dead as a franchise, but I can;t help but wonder if Avatar Press was waiting for Providence to be finished before using Burrows for Ennis's last Crossed story.

"Once A Warrior King" was meant to be 12 issues, if anyone else remembers.

>actually googled it
Ok so yea it predates crossed by 2 years and the "zombies" are the same thing. I want to believe. Any proof tho user?

>Once A Warrior King
I hope It won't be about Englishman becoming a smart crossed like Smokey.

It was meant to be about the middle period before "The Thing Red Line" and "The Fatal Englishman", showing I guess their journey from one place to the other.

I say "was", cause it's been about 2 years since Ennis first mentioned it, but with Providence over...maybe Avatar Press will actually move forward with it.

No, it's edgy for the sake of being edgy

link?

The problem I had with Wish You Were Here is the actual sins come home to roost part with the fucking epileptic sex scene is fucking ridiculous.

Here's where all the squeamish hipsters that don't understand horror or social commentary will tell you that it's just an edgefest.

Like this squeamish hipster right here.

>I'm a fan of stories where society has restructured itself after an apocalypse

What are some other examples (and they don't have to be comics)? I'm interested in this as well....
