/doag/ - Dumping Off All Gains

Dumbing of Age General: 6'0" vs. 5'11" Edition

But in actuality, it's just a preview of 8 June 2017.

And this chick pops up a few weeks afterwards, on 27 June 2017. Anybody know who she is?

Unfortunately, these two appear on 29 June 2017. I guess Willis wants to add "polyamorous lesbians" to his list of progressive elements that he can put on his tax returns or something. Whatever the equivalent is for privilege.

Probably some background teacher that will never be seen again after that strip?

Looks like Dorothy is going to be wearing her own depression hoodie for a while.

I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest.

I..... can't even tell what color that hair is suppose to be. Like, bluiesh green?

Oh, hey, some background on the Ultra-Car strip from a few weeks back:
>Here are the new character models for this month’s second Dumbing of Age Patreon bonus strip. Ultra Car is redrawn to fit better into the more simplified Dexter/MonkeyMaster cartoon style, and Jess and Deej are… sort of new.
>They’re Rule 63ed Original Elementary School Art Of Danny And Joe, essentially.

Now THAT'S a deep cut.

I think it's some kind of day-glo turquoise.

>Get one C
>Get depressed for more then one day/hour

I find it hard to really care when it is something that is so unbelievable to see happen in reality.

Oh, hey, we got our answer: It's Mindy.
An actually-new character.
>#yes she's new
>#they'll all be new from now on
>#i finished scraping the bottom of the walkyverse barrel

shit i dropped my trip
the world will know my faggotry

Anyways, here's the second new character. Her name is Anna. That's all for now.

I'll just remark that their character designs feel "off" for me and leave it at that. We can speculate more about it in approximately two months.

It's a classic trope: The overachieving or ambitious character has a minor setback that any other character would ignore if not briefly acknowledge and set aside, and as a result they are sent on a downward spiral.

Oh lord, Becky's taking fashion advice from Roz.

I swear her hair keeps getting more wacked-out as time goes on...she's starting to look like that one pirate from a Pirates of the Caribbean movie who had a shell for a head.

I ran out of stuff to find on the DoA Tumblr, so here's something from Willis' personal Tumblr. When asked about the doors above the dorm-room closets:

>Here’s a photo of an actual Read Hall dorm room. Yeah, there’s little sliding doors with extra storage compartments above the closets. I was short, so I didn’t really make much use of them, to my recollection.

Did you know that these are supposed to be model sheets for Willis? These are his references when drawing characters.

I just realized that he draws a brand new "model sheet" for every character with every outfit change. You'd think he might just make a base template and draw over that when it comes time to change clothes.

Seeing these three pics back to back makes me think these two new characters are gay friends Becky finds and befriends and/or makes out with.

When asked the following:
>Which is worse, Mary Worth or Funky Winkerbean? Further who would win in a smug asshole contest Mary or Les?

Willis replied:
>I often legitimately enjoy Mary Worth on its own terms.
>And Les never wins anything unless it’s through his wife dying.

What a fucking cocksucker.

Well, the rest of Willis' Tumblr makes me want to shoot myself, so I'm stopping.

I'm sure the black chick is another bisexual who can only find romantic happiness through other women. Just look at that hair.

>i finished scraping the bottom of the walkyverse barrel
This sounds good if true. Although filling your universe with barely fleshed out callbacks and then adding new characters seems like t he opposite of what this comic needs.

Brun (albeit as a white chick) and Black Faye, respectively, from Questionable Content.

Nah, Becky's outfit is more or less well put-together, even if her shirt and tie matching is a bit 1999. If she was taking fashion advice from Roz it'd be garishly mismatched.

True, but usually when the 'smart kid gets a B' thing happens, it happens to kids in middle school or high school. Or caricatures of smart people in comedic works. I guess Dorothy works in the latter category, but that just underscores how archetypical bordering on stereotypical Willis's characters are.

I do actually like the black chick's design, but knowing how Willis writes characters, I'm already worried that I'm going to hate her. Considering how poorly and by-the-numbers Willis already represents my race, I already know what he's angling for with her and I know damn well he doesn't know how to write that sort of character.

>Brun (albeit as a white chick) and Black Faye, respectively, from Questionable Content.
At this point, Willis might as well divorce his wife and try to bone Jeph.

It reminds me of the old Nickelodeon show "All Grown Up" in a sense. That show had situations that would have generally applied to high schoolers, but was set in a middle school setting. In the case of DoA, it's high school situations in a college setting. It still doesn't work, and in some cases it works less effectively than it would if it were in a middle school setting.

>knowing how Willis writes characters, I'm already worried that I'm going to hate her.
Completely understandable.

Maybe we'll luck out and she'll just serve as an asexual foil to Joe.

I'm pretty sure she's lighter than Sal and Walky. Hell, I'm pretty sure she's lighter than Joe.

He still managed to get those that shitty forelock in there on both these characters. Mindy has a tiny one, but also the bare forehead looks weird.

>Willis might as well divorce his wife and try to bone Jeph.

That's such a goddamn hilarious thought I want to make it happen.

Patreanon has abandoned us.

No surprise. Just another one to add to the list of Dead Patreanons.

The thing is that I know a few girls that resemble the archetype Willis is working off of. Hell, I admire most if not all of them. Which is why I hate it when media reduce girls like that to some generic mix of 'sassy', 'aggressive' and 'social activist'. None of which are negative traits, mind you, but at this point, it's shorthand that denies the character an actual full-fledged characterization.

And if she is socially active, I bet you five bucks that it'll be more for LGBT than Black Rights because Willis freezes up whenever he has to actually talk about black people problems instead of overlaying his parental problems onto us and calling it a fucking day.

If Willis did have her be a black rights activist she'd spout nothing but MSM talking points for the BLM movement.

>side cut
STOP THIS SHIT

I think I gave myself a brain aneurysm reading this update.

"Im a lesbian!"

Jesus. Get off it already.

They're probably just in for a busy Monday of being incredibly attractive, making tons of money, helping the less fortunate (read: everyone who isn't them), creating transcendent art and banging other frighteningly attractive people. They need their sleep.

as someone actually studying to be a scientist I can't possibly express in written word how much this fucking infuriates me... so here's a kitten

That lineart on her face is arguably some of the worst I have ever seen. Did he let his kids draw the mouth??

I wonder if she's Meredith's roommate.

Annnnd the bad lineart is contested for worst. Holy crap. Why is her face all squiggly?

Why is one of her shoes pointy at the heel?

But then he can't slowly make them shorter and thicker every time they change clothes!

>usually when the 'smart kid gets a B' thing happens, it happens to kids in middle school or high school
I know you're talking about fiction, but the first B I got as a final grade in college was devastating for a few hours.

I admit I was a little worried about the video based on the file name, but I'm glad I watched it.

My former roommate would always say "as a chemist" as if he were already in the field, despite never actually passing any chemistry classes in college and then dropping out.

Welp, Patranon I guess is afk tonight. Oh well, hopefully he comes around to drop us the goods whenever he wakes up or whatever. Keep the thread alive.

...

Ruth is terrible. Billie wanted to do an expose about how awful she was as an RA. Now she can't live without her. Discuss.

Where are the porn comics?

You can't find them anywhere.

They are awful. They are trash.
But they are on model.

Whole comic is absolute toxic relationships.

I was under the impression he does one a week on slips home.

>superhero car case future scientist lesbian

Oh shit! Stuff finally got added!

I'm still waiting for Becky to specify which of the sciences she wants to major in.

Oh no. No, no, no. Becky's alien brain parasite has jumped to Leslie.

YOU LEAVE HER ALONE, SKULL SUCKER! SHE'S ONE OF THE GOOD ONES!

Sorry for the late strip, my dudes. It was a crazy Easter Sunday

Willis this is defamation of gays.

Thanks for reposting my J&W Dump.

I'm going to go out today and beat up the first lesbian I find, because of this comic.

This is your fault, Willis. You caused my prejudice against their kind with your shitty comic.

Technically, you're a lesbian.
Or have you not found yourself?

So ... this is taking pace during class right ? Couldn't Leslie wait ONE HOUR to talk to Becky ? She can't be that busy

Make sure she's a homeless freckled redhead who hangs out with a christian girl.

I really hope "Baby Gay" is something that Willis made up on his own.

Also, meeting Becky should convince Roz that homosexuals need to be rounded up and put in camps.

who better knows how Lesbians act than Willis, the old white man married with twins?

Probably best not to google it, lest you find yourself assaulted by pictures of grown adults wearing diapers in homosexually provocative poses.

Christ...

Willis has a poor grip on how words work.

>>Ass-barfy, This is totally Babies....

...

Defamation of Gays is the name of the next book!

Or, alternatively
I did not know that a group of Gays was called a "Defamation"

I've come to understand that the title of this abortion of a webcomic is an inironic commentary on the current state of the US tertiary education environment.

>awesome sauce

Kill her now.

Monday means new porn, this week it's Roz and Joe again.

Pornanon here?

That is 1000x too clever for this comic.

>Hey Leslie? Can we.... you know, start class now?
>SHUT UP! LET ME HAVE THIS MOMENT WITH ONE OF MY OWN KIND!

Oh Willis you scamp....

I don't know if it's a good idea that a teacher takes such high interest in a student like this. But then again, Becky is more of a squatter then a student....

Willis has never met a gay person. I'm convinced.

But Willis is one of their allies! Comics Alliance & Mary Sue.com did an interview on him & everything!

At first, Willis' life had No Babies, but now it is Too Babies.

I almost enjoy the second panel, but not because it's the DoA cast looking at Leslie and Becky like they have no idea what's going on. No, for me it's the composition of the named cast/major players being smushed together into one panel when we're supposedly in a classroom with at least fifteen to twenty total students. And yet these five are the only ones we are told to care about.

Anyways, I feel like my earlier idea that Robin is going to meet Becky and end up paying for her housing and/or tuition are still going to happen. Time will tell, I suppose.

As for "baby gay", I don't think Willis has ever met an adult gay person in his life. I'm not talking about the teens or twenty-somethings in his comments section; I'm talking about 40 and 50 year olds. People older than him.

Also, he's implying that upon becoming a lesbian, you get a haircut. I don't think that's how it works. Lipstick lesbians exist, you know.

Ah, there's that awkward panel of them all craning their heads into the frame to see something that's happening at the front of the class like normal.

Leslie can't be about to literally use Becky to fix Robin. That's not possible. Like, if I was against faith groups taking care of gays, Becky would be the best example of another community being able to take up the slack. Not that I agree with it, but Becky's successes and chipperness don't scream, "queer, identity-denying, anti-lgbt politician converter."

Also, she's really going to *use* an at-risk person as a tool because she can't just convince Robin, or get her to fuck off, on her own? Seems kinda shitty.

Problem is, this is Dumbing of Age, so it *will* happen, and it *will* work, and Robin *will* become the good queer person she should be and get with Leslie and win the election.

...

I haven't read this in a while. Is everyone in the college gay yet or what?

>Seems kinda shitty
As evidenced by Leslie's involvement in Roz's plan to destroy Robin, Leslie is not bothered by small things like people getting hurt.

It would be crazy good if Becky actually ends up getting hurt in trying to turn Robin, and Leslie turned out to be the one making her collateral damage.

The best part about DoA is that so many characters can get hurt and it will only fill me with dark pleasure.

>the rest of the cast looks dumbfounded while these two gay out.

Oh great, Willis is projecting 90% of his reader base into panel 2.

Oops, wrong image.

I don't really get the "born again" joke. I never used that terminology in my time as a person of the christian faith, so I don't really get it. Is it like, when you become baptized as an adult and commit yourself to Christianity? I thought of it as more of a thing for converted people than people who were baptized and religious all their life.

Anyway, my real issue is that I think Becky still considers herself Christian and believes in god, she's just not very strict on the dogma (I don't really want to get into whether that counts for making her in a Christian in the eyes of god, I don't care). So... what does she mean by "born again" only lasted a week? If she just thinks that bit is nonsense we're starting to get to the point where I'm wondering where she's at on her own faith. I feel like the more intractable parts are believing that Jesus died for your sins and that being a Christian gets you into heaven, which I think "born again" is heavily linked to. Like I said, I'm not super clear on the term so maybe I'm mistaken.

>Sorry for the late strip, my dudes. It was a crazy Easter Sunday
I've decided you got super-drunk at Communion, and there is nothing you can tell me to change my mind about that.

Might be right before class starts.

Pretty sure I've heard it in reference to gay people just coming out of the closet. Sorry, dude.

>Ass-barfy
Yet to see any actual proof of this one. It's "barfy, poopy, and pee-y."

"Born again" is basically how you are after you've accepted or reaccepted Christ into your heart. There's a lot of rebirth imagery in Christianity, probably stemming from the Nicodemus bit in the first few chapters of John.

As for how Becky's using it, well, when you go to a religious camp for a few days and actually commit to it instead of smuggling contraband like Game Boys from home, you get this really strong connection to God that inevitably fades once you go back home and remember that things like Game Boys exist. I'm surprised Becky's religious high lasted a week; I think my record was five days.

At first, I was mad because Willis is doing the thing where all minorities have the exact same experiences and anything besides that is inherently discounted. But now I'm mad because Willis is implicitly breaking his own continuity.

Remind me, /doag/. When Leslie was talking to Robin at the bar, she mentioned that she was already in an environment that's not friendly to LGBT *and* married, right? That's why she got divorced and kicked out and had to live on the streets for an unspecified amount of time before going from homeless to masters degree in an even less specified amount of time, right? So why the hell is Leslie apparently reminiscing about gleefully telling everyone about how gay she is?

Are you implying that she didn't spend money on a frivolous haircut while being homeless on the street and telling people that she was a lesbian? Because it sounds like you're trying to discount her brave journey to become a a member of the ivory tower despite the efforts of all the evil forces of the patriarchy and white men.

Yeah, she supposedly spent a lot of time pretending she didn't like women.

I wonder how long it took before she got all Becky about it. Seems like that would have burned a lot of bridges that were already burned.

JUST

CALL

THE

POLICE

For a college professor, Leslie isn't very smart.

>So why the hell is Leslie apparently reminiscing about gleefully telling everyone about how gay she is?
Because she was excited despite all the shit that rained down on her. Or at least just before all the shit started raining down on her.

>A baby gay myself

Idk where Willis pulls his vocabulary out of, but I bet he spends a lot of time on Urban Dictonary or something just looking for obscure terms and words.

Leslie, what on earth do you need to "borrow" her for?

I'm surprised Willis hasn't made porn of Joyce (that I know of)

She's upset about having to kick her out but she's also upset that Robin sneaked back in. She can't win.

Joyce needs to hand over Becky's leash or Becky might run into traffic.

She's going to use Becky's plight to fix Robin.

nah, that is a thing

mostly a lesbian thing

'baby gay' is the kind of thing tumblr kids say, he didn't make that one up

would this comic become better if Becky was in fact HARD GAYOKAY

I hope Becky and Robin end up hating each other, with both finding the other too zany and obnoxious

Or maybe they'll just run off together so we don't have to deal with either of them again, outside of occasional phone calls to Joyce to tell her how much premarital sex they're having.

What, convince DeSanto that anti-gay legistration leads to deranged religious dad's abducting their gay daughters at gun point?

Pictured: David Willis doing some marketing.

There are alot of things to say about this, but I don't think I need to say any of them.

I thought from the tumbnail all the censors were Easter eggs.

>>#i finished scraping the bottom of the walkyverse barrel
That's not something you really want to say about your own work. I'm not sure that he knows it's not endearing.
