Could we discuss his subplot please? Because Im not sure what the point was

so they get off the battleship to get a code guy, after some shenanigans they find somebody who fits the bill, fail at doing the job, he betrays them which costs the rebels hundreds of lives and they manage to escape to the planet, here Finn fails at a kamikaze attack, survives and escapes with the few remaining rebels.

basically nothing he did mattered and the things that did have a consequence made things worse.

Do the writers want us to hate him or what?

Don't forget, the first time we really see him in the episode is him running away because it got difficult.

and btw HOW did Benicio del Toro know about the freighters? Did they see them when they jumped in? I dont recall that.

Jj force him in. Pointlessa fucking character

He is quite literally the token best black friend.
His subplot is unimportant. Mouse doesn't actually care about him, they just use him to get muh representation bux.

>he betrays them which costs the rebels hundreds of lives
That's not true though, since they went with the purple hair plan anyway. Bascially the whole thing didn't matter and it was like quarter of the move lel.

The funny thing is it wasn't even his subplot it was the asian girl's. He was just kind of there

It was propaganda. It showed the audience that the woman leader Vice Admiral Clinton, even though she was not likeable, was correct in the end because her plan would have worked if the rebels hadn't have sabotaged it, so we shouldn't have questioned her.

>That's not true though, since they went with the purple hair plan anyway.
Yes and how did they learn about the rebels trying to sneak away? The "codemaster" literally alerts the empire about it and they proceed to blow them all up.

holy shit

Same goes with Rose, she's the token chubby asian "beautiful inside, not outside" that will tell you kids that love is more important than
fighting and big business and wealth is always bad and made on slave labor, m'kay?

and once again HOW DID HE KNOW? Old Tumblr Lady was the only one who did and she told the rest only minutes before they departed which was AFTER they failed deactivating the scanner.

THERE IS NO WAY HE COULD HAVE KNOWN! Especially on that ship.

Wait, that's how they find out? I thought the nazis just had some scanner, must have not paid attention at that point.
Lmao, that's actually hilarious in so many ways.

...

didnt you watch the movie? He made a deal, he told them about the freighters to get off the hook.

...

both finn and poe have their own little arch, i love poe but finn is awful

anyway

poe:
>rogue pilot, goes in for the attack in the opening scene, stays on the attack against orders.
>gets hotheaded and takes action against that SJW tumblrina cast in, sends people off on a mission and then mutiny
>eventually decides to retreat in the mines, learning that sometimes it's best to live to fight another day

finn
>runs away from the main plot in fear
>ultimately only runs away from that casino planet because they're being chased, otherwise he would probably stay
>is a piece of shit up until the end when he decides to sacrifice himself at the battering ram, but is stopped anyway

both of these characters just needed strong women to learn their lessons from,

because he didn't do the exact same thing in TFA

>HOW did Benicio del Toro know about the freighters?

you think a master codebreaker being told to hack into a hyper-drive tracking system wouldn't be able to figure out why the rebels would need them to disable said tracking system?

The flagship wasn't scanning for small ships, however there's no proof the small ship which was the stolen rich guys ship, wasn't? Except it's stupid they didn't explain that, and what was what I really hated about TFA, no explanations besides haha, this happens because :)

his whole arch was
>We shouldn't abandon our ideal just because things are rough

but it is so rushed, he went from deserting the cruiser to sacrificing himself just because he saw some kids getting beaten up by a fat alien.

i mean yeah he did/saw things way worse when he was a trooper

I did, I was probably so bored at that point it didn't register in my memory correctly. I remember him getting money and saying something like "they win today, you tomorrow" or sth like that. I thought the betrayal was that he prevented them from disabling the tracker.

I honestly want to say the point of his subplot was to push rose on him
A lot of star wars fans thought they were really pushing the rey and finn together but then they showed sexual tension between rey and kylo.

and they even had a whole "Dont fight what you hate save what you love" bit in there.

Also someone did a theory where Anakin loved the girl until he got the power, But kylo wanted the power until he loved the girl, rey.

Now I want to say that kylo and rey would be an item and rey would attempt to save kylo by "loving" him instead. BUUTTT, i dont think thats what itll be.

Look I am totally not the type of dude to support drumpf or be "redpilled" but holy shit is this series 'politically correct".

Kylo and Rey wont end up together for the simple fact of the matter that Rey and Kylo are both white. Pure and Simple Kylo wont be saved by the power of love because he is a WHITE MAN that isnt worthy of being saved with love. Kylo will be murdered horribly, Rey the empowered female will be "alone" or with one of the POC. Finn and rose are together now. and thats it.
And this is going from someone who thinks himself a socialist even i'm saying this movie and its basically anti white message is really above and beyond almost anything i've seen.

TLJ might be the most racist movie of all time. Um, yeah that wouldn't have actually happened in real life. Do you think black men just walk away like that? I cannot wait for Episode 9 where that chingchong Mei lookin' bitch has his kid and she drops it because she can't properly see the crib, then based Finn catches it and takes off to raise it properly. Literally shaking.

Trust me I'm racking my brain and I really don't know. They came directly from the space casino, right? How the fuck did he know?

Yeah that's how they found out. According to the movie, the empire wouldn't see a massive envoy of smaller ships because they would "only be scanning for larger vessels" which makes no fucking sense. If they're trying to crush the rebels, wouldn't you cut off any possible escape method? What the fuck happens to the codemaster after he tips off the empire? What was even the point of all of that? Couldn't they have just had the empire see the rebels trying to escape?

>big business and wealth is always bad and made on slave labor

it's hilarious that fucking DISNEY are the ones putting out this message. make sure to buy porgs.

Niggers are worthless.

>Finn is going to single handedly save the rebels
>dumb asian chick stops him unaware luke projection was coming
Did she read the script? This is some of the worst writing ive ever seen

>you think a master codebreaker being told to hack into a hyper-drive tracking system wouldn't be able to figure out why the rebels would need them to disable said tracking system?

except the freighters were NOT why the needed to disable the system.

>purple hair plan
Can someone enlighten me as to why she didn't tell anyone about the why of the plan? Some kind of subtext that went way over my head? Did I simply miss some scene where they explained it?

The movie was overall kinda incoherent. IMO.

I think this plot was supposed to show that Poe's hotshot plan backfired and how he grows to be more responsible (calls the retreat in the end and understands Luke). The problem is that:
1. Poe is too far removed from actual events
2. He nor the rebels even know it's because of his plan
3. It's never shown to cause him any mental distress and the aunties running the show still pamper him even though he fucked up

I guess Finn's suicidial charge at the end was supposed the be him redeeming for fucking up as well? I'm probably reaching and it's just shit writing.

Hint: Rian Johnson is a secret Nazi.

>The movie was overall kinda incoherent. IMO.
I have to agree with you there user

no she kept the plan to herself because dick measuring contest with Poe.

In the end it cost countless lives and a pointless mutiny but hey at least she could be a leader.

Finn should have died, the dyke stopped him from doing exactly what men are supposed to do, you go girl

Something about yin-yang & the endless cycle of violence

wtf I love Rian Johnson now?

Maybe they wanted the audience to think she's a spy or tr8or only to reaveal "Ha, you thought the woman is useless, but she had this shit figured out all along! Shame on you white man!"

You literally see the Empire picking their ships off like flies.

Yeah, I just didn't realize it was del Toro who told them about that. I thought they found out on their own, and his betrayal was that he alerted them to nog tryin to mess with their tracker.

I'm guessing that the guy who sold them out just goes ahead to prove point.
No such thing as good or evil, only business.

Fighting is retarded and big business is pretty much always built on slave labor. Wealth in itself isn't bad depending on what scale one uses to measure said wealth; after a certain level you're not making money with the sweat of your brow.
But this isn't what they're saying (if they did, they'd be too unsubtle in their hypocrisy).

They're actually not saying anything at all. With utter cynicism, they're just manipulating form and the definitions ascribed to form in order to manipulate those giving importance to these, in order to get them to give them money as well as turn on each other due to disagreements about this. In other words, everything Disney seems to be saying with Star Wars, whether it's about diversity or feminism or whatever, is a gigantic sham. It's like a paper tiger seen from afar, except at this point the tiger isn't made out of paper but is a realistic, fully articulated automated marionette. But when the things they're not saying are taken as actually saying something, then people -out of adherence to denatured political ideologies- project their delusions onto those suggestions of form and go crazy. That is exactly what they, and all of those who are like them everywhere and anywhere, want.
The best illustration of how upright Disney is about diversity can be found in Into the Woods. The movie takes place somewhere medieval Europe and at one point we see two black children. The camera quite awkwardly zooms onto them and dwells there for a moment before the scene cuts. They are the only non-whites that are in the movie (or among the very few) and are utterly insignificant to the story or the setting. However, as a gesture that mimics -but is devoid of the substance of- promotion of equality, two minorities are given their 15 seconds of fame and then promptly forgotten.

He read the script before they rolled cameras

He was a Resistance quota hire, what did you expect?

he sensed them

There was nearly a good character building moment. For the last few films he's been a coward. Yet at the end it seems like Finn has grown, he has found something worth dying for or that would be the case if we actually knew anything about the resistance but that's beside the point and is going to sacrifice himself to save his friends. It would be a fitting end for a character like Finn who has spent two movies running from the first order and dies by driving straight into them. Unfortunately the moment was ruined. They didn't have the balls to kill him.

he had a motivation to fight the order before since he saw the carnage they did and felt bad about it.

Unlike Rey who still doenst have a decent reason to fight for the resistance or to not change to the dark side.

No, Finn already went through that arc last film. He wanted to turn tail and run, but at the end mans up, helps blow up Daddy Star and fights Emo Ren.
They actually regressed him in this movie. Although it could be said that he wasn't running at the start and just luvs Rey so much.
