OP is wrong, actual previous thread:

I wish I had a beta version of my comic to talk about, but currently still developing stuff. Trying to figure out a good amount of characters to use, cuase I usually brainstorm too many characters.

man do I ever hear that.
The sad thing is, when the time comes to include a new character for a small role, it's really hard sometimes to think of one. I think we ought to keep a few in reserve for situations like that

That's what I do. I just save a lot of my old character designs and when I realize I need a new character to fill a certain role, I just throw in some character I drew up a few months ago. A lot of these characters ended up getting much larger roles in the story than I anticipated, though.

We could talk about stuff like comics and designs, or love...

I love me some love in comics

Romance in comics? Now we're talking. Give me some of that fluffy shoujo shit, I love it.

Guess its never a bad idea to have some ideas or characters in reserve, you never know when it can come in handy. Whats a good number of characters to start with? Guess it depends on what kind of story your trying to write.

I have a soft spot for just-one-character stories, at least if they start that way and slowly build. Once you have three you're kinda on your way towards a large cast and can't really come back, unless they have a special dynamic

how do I make my lines look good?
right now i'm completely digital but I'm considering getting a scanner and doing it by hand.

you've gotta do long, quick strokes. confidence is impossible, but you can fake it by doing the same line over and over and undoing it every time until it's right. It's actually faster than doing that one line slowly.

bump

Try drawing from your elbow rather that your wrist. Hold your wrist still and move your forearm with your elbow to make long, smooth strokes.

Keep practicing, I just found great books that might help me double my drawing output and help me improve.

Learning to draw animals and express motion with them, which will help greatly.

that's some great dognatomy. you're amazing.

>dont work on webcomic because you spend all day watching anime
>however the anime turns out to be great and can serve as inspiration

>tfw finally moving forward again

I'm relieved, and I really want a drink. Being a creator is probably going to turn me into an alcoholic one day.

you'd be joining a fine tradition

I'm honestly pretty pleased with these backgrounds, hopefully I'll get faster at them with time

they're really, really nice

I'll allow myself a drink when the first draft is finished.

I hope Bad Adjectives guy is still alive

Nice colors, but the perspective seems to be all over the place.

which of these do you guys think suits a arrogant Protag (female)
also a link to a generator for more
fantasynamegenerators.com/nepalese-names.php#.WPanptIrKM8

arrogant as in like.. a princess? if so, maiya
otherwise, aruna
rameela sounds too weird, saumya is somehow even weirder, and kanti is a robot with a tv for a head I'm afraid

finish my comic.

Maiya

more on the bitter and asshole side

thank you for your imput

>bitter asshole
definitely aruna then.

Thanks!

Ah, yeah. I've been freehanding these bgs so my perspective is pretty sloppy. Now that you've pointed it out I'm seeing a lot of the mistakes I made. Trying to do perfect perspective eats up a lot of time for me, and I wanted to get fasted with bgs. I'm going to do some more background and perspective studies so hopefully I'll be able to whip up better backgrounds in the future. >.

thanks!

Shit, you just reminded me that I legitimately have no idea how to draw backgrounds...

b-back to square one!

Here's my new page that launched yesterday.

You're doing a great job with your characterizations and expressions, love that confused smile at the end.

monster-lands.com

The villain of this chapter of Monster Lands is trying to deliver a crushing body slam, but it is a tad inaccurate in the end.

I have a few other character sketches and stuff to post too.

Some sketches of The Destructor. Spoilers are blacked out.

Sketches of Barbara. She's an enormous elderly siren. She first appears here: monster-lands.com/comic/ship-approaching/

Her debut chapter is about how she got married.

now THAT is a monster. I love it
>Barb
oh you

hue hue hue
cuz her tail.... has barbs hue hue

er, I was thinking because of nematocysts, but yeah

Oh yeah that's way more clever.

You could have made it more apparent that he missed the target, would have drove it home, its fine to treat your reader like there smart but you gotta treat them like there dumb to get a point across at the same time you know?

Good stuff as always though!

Finished this page!

Thanks, I'll try to work on making the visual language a bit more clear for this chapter.

So I made a post about a week ago regarding a series I wanted to start about boxing supernatural beings, the idea originated from my fear of sleep paralysis and how I wish I could just knock the fuck out of my fears.

So after a bit, I drew up the main character and a rough draft logo.
I've decided to call the series 'Ghost Puncher' as it's short, simple, and tells you everything you need to know.

As for a quick synopsis:
Atlas Haskell, son of the fallen priest of San Francisco, Aargus Haskell, wishes to carry on his fathers beliefs in heaven in an alternative way. Atlas wishes to box demons, spirits, ghosts and other supernatural beings with his own two fists, due to an ancient roman contract that ensures the absolute demise of any demonic beast who loses in the ring with a human. Atlas takes calls around California, eliminating a variety of supernatural creatures with his ultimate goal to face "El Jefe De Los Muertos", Death himself, The Under-World Heavy Weight Champion. and eliminate the world of fear itself.
Atlas is accompanied by Rachel Morgue, a religious woman who helps coach him through tough matches, using her catholic powers to bless his fists, as well as a few other faces (still brainstorming)

Those are the basics, and I promise you it's not a monster of the week.
It's a paranormal horror comedy, with some crazy boxing fights.
It'll take a while till I start chapter one but I promise it'll happen.
Always open to feedback! Thanks!

Getting tired of drawing for tumblr notes, wanna start my own comic.
Science fiction, sort of like Firefly but funny and set in our solar system with autistic attention to "real science," ie, no warp/magictech, setting is boring Hard SF background.

Question is, furry or not furry?
(Figure they could be decedents of uplifted animals after humans are long gone)
All things being the same, think there is any advantage retaining readership over humans??

>Question is, furry or not furry?

Literally who cares.

I'd go with furries just because I think those animal designs have more charm than their human counterparts. The issue might be that some people might avoid your comic just because of the furries, but at the same time you might gain more furry readers so? It's your call.

cool

this needs a little tweaking and a little research and a decent amount of art practice and you've got an absolute classic on your hands.

I'd read it
If you do go furry, I implore you to take the Thundercats 2011 route and make it explicit that different levels of furryness are part of their biology for a reason, so they aren't all just this one consistent level, and you don't have the confusion of why there's also still some animals around.
there's no real advantage but if you're gonna do hard scifi and still allow for genetic fuckery, then at least include some nonhumans. Mutates, aliens, some kind of experimented-on guinea pigs..

While other comic is in planning stages, enjoy a little sneak peek of AtomiBall.

Rando Comic.

those are some NICE muscles. times like this I wish I liked sports comics.

Well, people do care, vocally so, at least pretend to.
Just wanted some feedback.
I understand, thank you.

If you mean the discrepancy between human animals vs animal animals, I figured humans in this story either died out, left the system, and or became post-human AI whatnots and animal peoples who colonized the solar system are descendants of experiments to make manimal hybrids, so there are "natural" animals too but mostly extinct in whatever long history lost to time.

I did think about this, taking cartoon animals people somewhat "realistically."
Like having bird/dragon folk be able to fly even with humanoid body types fly in the lower gravity of Mars or in space stations made for them...
The various races would recognize each other's sentient rights nominally, but could fight/eat each other in case of carnivores and would have had a long bloody history amongst them.

I assume stuff like this has been done before, I not not too familiar with long history furry community must have with anthropological worldbuilding, and really, it's more of an homage to pulp SF of 1930's filtered through my own autism love of hard SF and drawing funny animal people.

actually very little furry stuff ever pays attention to the logistics of them being furries, any kind of worldbuilding to it. what I mean is like some of them might look more human than others.. due to which animals they are they might NEED that (like there's no good way to do a snake). But if they're 'uplifted' animals in scifi it's not that weird if their humanness varies. some might not even have tails, others might have almost entirely animallike parts all the way down to the paws, yknow it can vary and provide variety.
in thundercats some of them were almost just painted-up humans, others were pretty much cats standing up, but since they were all mumm-ra's engineered slaves having crashed on some planet and lived there for ages, it made sense

It's gotten more difficult to concentrate on my comic ever since I've opened up porn commissions.

you know what though?
it's fantastic anatomy practice

Interesting, so that's the 2011 canon?
What I remember from the originals shows really didn't say or care, they were just toys is what I assumed they went with.

Aren't snakes done as scalie humans with snake head or the lamia snake bottom half?

>gain more furry viewers
The best and worst of sonic fandom.
The best and worst of Undertale fandom.
The best and worst of MLP fandom.
The best and worst of any medium with animal characters....

Yeah good luck pal, I like animal characters but if my fans obsess over them sexual I feel like I'm not using these characters to there full potential.

Not that human characters aren't better, just make em how you WANT them to appear. If you want some animals then do, if human then do. If your depending on looks to convey charm... AHAHAHAHAHA good luck with that.
If you want my OPINION furries in space is ez, in fact too ez. Just make em furries and have different planets have different species. If you put all species on one planet anyone who understands what can come from extraterrestrial life knows beings from diff planets wont be the same damn dog with floppy ears and a wet nose...

With humans it then gets tricky, because now you'll have to create creatures with different anatomy to native earth creatures.
I'd go for a crew with different species though, not because of "muh diversity" or "muh charm and pandering" but think man if everyone's human or furry whats the true purpose of the story? whats different if it's all furries (oh god all the furry porn and no story...)if it's all human (then we truly are alone in the universe) if a large variety of alien (... what else could be possible, living rocks, sentient gas and energy or hell maybe some beyond alien)

In the end its either you want mediocre/ furry porn, role playing and a furry of the month award OR MAYBE something new and interesting...

> you as an artist are not a liar, you convey KNOWLEDGE and the VISIBLE to your audience. You should never idly draw mediocre, GO for the extraordinary. Every drawing, every stroke is a piece of you being put to display.

Go big bro, you should even worry about looks of the main characters. You should be caring about who they are.

Porn is so boring after a while, I regret it now that somebody will always link the styles and find me out, eventually.

definitely is, plus nude is simply easier to draw than clothes and weapons

Plausible deniability, just say it's an impostor! In my defense, my commission fetishes are mostly vanilla.

I've been told by many people that the key is let your fans draw all the kinky shit and keep the comic focused on the story, which seems to be common sense.

Why do anons get so autistic when furshit is brought up, for or against...

I don't know how much you like furry characters, but I wouldn't.

When they start making large amounts, then they won't care about the story. If character A has X amount of porn people dont care what A does in the story as long as they can gush over A.

Best example is when A dies and never comes back it's a guarantee, those people will not care. A was just Waifu/Fap material... Sad but it happens.

I hope that never happens to my characters.
Meh you were austistic enough to mention it as well user. Were all on the same sinking ship.
Nice Dubs...
Wanna Yiff?

I wanna start a 10 chapter webcomic but I'm stuck on a couple things still.

Where the fuck could one host their comic?
And follow up question, what or where's the best way to advertise said comic?
And lastly... profit?

yeah in the 80s they gave zero fucks, most characters weren't really any particular race, they were just.. action figure-americans.
the thunderians in the 80s show were meant to be an alien race, and while they were relatively consistent in their look, you still had to wonder why they had invidual races that resembled and were named after earth cats.

those are two ways to do snake furries, but neither one is consistent with the way cat and dog furries usually get done, which in turn is pretty different from how horse ones work, see? so it's better if you have it explicit in your rules that their gene pool is really varied.
personally with snake furries I prefer them to be salamander-shaped. so they still have arms and legs, but they're stubby, and the body is long.

The word you're looking for isn't regret, it's fear.
all of this and more.
for your own comic, i agree with this. do lewd fanart of OTHER people's stuff, let them lewd up yours. also stop replying to bones

>Where the fuck could one host their comic?
any of the various free sites. comicfury, comicgenesis, drunkduck, etc.
>advertise
well once you get famous enough to advertise, get your own actual URL so you can put up your own ads and profit

That's just fandom, not furries, not much you can do about it, I used to be big into Harry Potter way back, there are crazies anywhere.

I wouldn't consider myself a furry or part of the community, I supposed I've retained, like a lot of Sup Forums user, fondness for ye olde cartoons of the ancient lost past of the 90's.
I prefer what the kids call "kemono" more than "mainstream" furry art, guess I prefer the toony style more than true snouts.
I also think part of it is getting tired of the ongoing culture wars and the diversity minefield.

I never thought of relating those trends, but .. you might have a point.

>profit
Draw the comic for 10 years and recoup with 100,000 kikestarter publishing drive.
That or hope enough faggots will love your shit to fill up your patroen jar.

>I'm not a furry, I just draw and fap to furshit
Ayy

jokes on u faggot i'll draw undertale furry porn and charge 100 dollars a week on patreon for people to read a description of what the drawing is

>diversity minefield
Just draw everyone white, ignore ppl who question it, you pussy.

>stubby
But than they aren't as sexy ;^)

I can understand that, but drawing furry in order to recapture some of that 90s magic is like wearing a fedora to relive the 50s age,
It doesn't matter that it was fashionable at that era, what matters is that it carries heavy negative connotation with it now.

they can still shake their curvaceous and elongated torso

Dis GUY gets it!
If your comic or anyone's comic here makes it big please try to make sure your titles get more fanart and motivation to your audience, instead of just straight up pornography unless! That's part of the story because lets be honest not many of you have actual sex in your comic thats valid or can be considered appropriate in the story. Like people having kids, or you know actual love...

Wow. I can't remember the last time I heard something worse than that. Do you hear yourself?

What if that happened to something you like? Let me put it a different way. That -will happen- to -everything you like-

but there's more: you know all those assholes who have stood in your way over the years, trying to keep you from enjoying what you like? What happens if they find out the fastest route to ending your happiness is giving it a negative connotation?

>tfw have friends now
>tfw they're cutting into my comic time
>tfw enjoying their company too much to say no

H-help.

it's not a fashion, dumbass, it's cool. animals are cooler than humans. they have better senses, athleticism, claws, teeth, all that shit. some of them have armor, for god's sake. plus they don't have the same concept of personal space.

The awnser is simple user rape

show them your comic!

>animals
>animals don't have concept of personal space

Are you memeing me m8? Are you retarded?

>I love animals so much that I never considered truly studying the human species as they are truly a unique animal. And that us why I cannot draw or tell stories with em.

>heavy negative connotation
Does it, really though?
Maybe on Sup Forums due to tradition, but seems to me the wider webcomics community and internet at large doesn't really care unless your comic was furporn to begin with.
CGI animal flims still reign at the box office, it seems more mainstream than animu... am I mistaken??

t. furries
>>> /trash/

He's right you know...

Ooh you left out two important words in that sentence. Next time you see something that looks like retarded memes, try reading it a second time. You'll save some face and maybe get to be in the higher reading group!

>having friends
Fucking normie shits.

What if you want to do porn comics AND regular comics?

Or rather, not really straight-up porn, but like, one that actually contains some sex/erotica?

Also, what is the opinion you guys have of people who do both regular comics, and erotica? Is that looked down upon? Do people really only "dislike" sex and nudity in comics just because they're "supposed" to?

dude i'm the only one that does study what makes the human animal awesome. everyone else seems obsessed with erasing or denying it
but in the meantime animals are objectively cooler. the only thing we're really good at is endurance, and we're still shit at that.
well okay, dexterity. we've got hella points in dexterity

As long as you focus on the AND, I think it's a great idea. They should be separate, not because of some issue of propriety, but simply because one gets in the way of the other if it's a sudden swerve. By all means, have your regular comic, have your porn comic, AND have one with some ecchi in it. Make a new sandwich with everything that fits on bread. Just don't try peanut butter and ham. I mean, try it, but don't make six of them before you've tasted one.
>Is that looked down upon
everything is, by someone. The real issue is that having even one nipple disqualifies you from all major advertisers, but not being full-on porn makes it hard to use porn advertisers (which you don't want anyway. and definitely don't join some weird cartel like Slipshine)
>Do people really only "dislike" sex and nudity in comics just because they're "supposed" to?
abso-goddamn-lutely. But naturally they'll never admit it.

Burgers are crazy and will assume you are a sick sex offender if you draw anything more interesting than missonary sex for procreative purposes by a loving couple, all the while fapping to nasty shit.
