We fix star wars

Lets rewrite some of the scenes from TLJ to make them actually good

>Rey extends the lightsaber to luke, hoping he'll take it
>Luke pauses for a moment
Luke: Who are you?
Rey: I'm rey, I come with news of a war in the stars
Luke: It can't be...
>Luke grabs the lightsaber with all his might
>Zoom in on lukes face, he looks grave and serious
Luke: It's a star war
>Theme music plays
>Camera pans around luke and rey from up top while music plays

No end credits, just Mickey smiling.

not randomly having kylo and rey the ability to communicate through the "force" billions of miles away from each other because tey cudnt figure out a reasonable way to have the two communicate but they wanted the two to communicate because the writers are completely void of any talent or creativity

>Kylo doing bomber run at cruiser
>He hesitates
>Cuts to Snoke monitoring the fight
>orders the other bombers to fire
>they do
>Leia sucked out into space and dies right there
>Kylo looks hurt as fuck
>fast-cut to Luke talking to Rey and almost falls over

Leia's death motivates Kylo killing Snoke in Episode IX as a dark-side revenge move. And it motivates Luke coming back

>Admiral Tumblr tells everyone her plan
>Movie ends 2 hours early

After ROTJ the galaxy has imploded into a syrian-style civil war. The authoritarian and corrupt system instituted by the Empire results in rampid warlordism and the rebels, now declared the new republic, lack the resources to take control of it all.

The galaxy balkanizes and many large and small factions exist, akin to syria. Overall, after 30 years of non-stop fighting that sees superweapons, desperation, and atrocities by both sides about 60% of the galaxy is controlled by the struggling republic, and 40% by the loose confederation of Imperial Remnants, which often fight each other as well as the Republic.

Luke has founded the new Jedi Order but is busy tracking a new sith sect rumored to have been the hidden enforcers during Palpatines reign. Leia is still the leader of the new republic, but is overburdened and disenfranchised by deskwork and the corrupt nature of the democratic regime, which has now evolved into something akin to LOTGH's Free Planets Alliance. Han and Lando are still generals, but have been promoted so high they're also bogged down in deskwork and simultaneously miss the frontlines while also being disillusioned by the never-ending conflict.

The story would also introduce Imperial characters shown in a positive light. The more moderate and honorable naval officers frequently clash with remnants of the more radical Imperial elements, such as Palpatine's dark side acolytes, the remnants of imperial intelligence & inner circle, and the stormtrooper corps

The new cast would consist of Han-Leia's child being trained by Luke on his quest, a new Republic pilot, and an Imperial Navy cadet. All get caught up in a plot involving the new sith sect, led by a survivor of anakin's jedi purges that has come to hate the jedi and republic

Several old EU characters like Mara Jade, Gillad Palleon, and Thrawn get worked into canon.

We should have just gotten the fake leaks from way back when
>Rey and Kylo are the heirs of Palpatine
>they were kept secret in a temple after the fall of the empire
>Luke found out and in a misguided attempt to stop another Palpatine from rising, decides to kill them
>he attacks the temple
>the two babies are separated, Kylo ends up in the hands of Snoke, who is scarred by Luke during the attack
>Rey's protector dies after crash landing on Jaaku and she is raised by junkers
>Luke realizes his error and exiles himself in shame
>Finn is actually force sensitive and is able to combat the Storm trooper brainwashing to escape
>movie plays out as usual
>Rey wants to find Luke to train her, not aware that he was the one who was responsible for her predicament
>they find Luke earlier but he refuses to train Rey
>Kylo Ren leads the knights of Ren and captures Rey
>Luke, Han, Finn, and Chewbacca goes to Starkiller base to rescue her
>Kylo Ren reveals the truth to her
>the good guys attack
>Kylo Ren fights Luke and loses
>Rey returns to save her brother and ends up killing Han before escaping with Kylo Ren
>Luke decides to train Finn in order to combat Snoke and his new apprentices
That would be a better set up for the 8th film

Snoke literally said that he made it happen

>the importance of show don't tell

All they needed to do was not turn Luke into a comedy jobber (everything else could be the same as it is now) and the movie would have been universally beloved

Alright
Part1
>Movie opens with Rey and Luke
>Luke tells her she's grown and walks away
>Explains that he's been watching but in his despair he can't control his force powers so isolated himself
>Knows that things are desperate since Rey is here
>Agrees to train Rey
Part2
>Cut to Kylo and Snoke
>Snoke talks about his corronation and what has been happening for the past year and some change
>Date is established
>Snoke says that the Jedi are still a threat and to defeat them
>Snoke teaches Kylo to reach out with the force
>Kylo opens the link with Rey being untrained he doesn't know her location
>Rey rejects Kylo
>Kylo shows her visions of Luke fighting Kylo
>Luke gets injured when Rey looses control
>Yoda like scene with Rey giving Luke a piggy back ride to the top
>Luke grabs a cain

Part 3
>Rebels are plotting an attack on the coronation
>First Order appears
>Rebels are BTFO
>Leia is captured and they leave because Rebellion is no threat
>Luke and Rey decide to go back to try and save Leia despite training not being completed

Final part
>Rebels begin fighting during the coronation
>Kylo to execute his mother
>Poe and Finn crash on the planet
>Get captured
>Another ship comes down unscathed
>Luke and Rey emerge
>Looks at Leia
>Snoke says "Do IT"
>Kylo throws the saber cutting down Snoke
>Luke happy
>Removes lightsaber from Snoke and announces some blah about Snoke being weak
>Kills Leia
>Gets on his ship and leaves
>Rebel allies come and help save everyone from a hopeless situation

Ending
>Everyone is in the millenium falcon wondering what to do now.
>Screens are all popping up and a mysterious imperial communication comes threw saying they want to help

Before TFA was even announced, my friends and I did a bunch of "what if you had to write a sequel to x" and I did Star Wars:
>first in a new trilogy
>30 years after ROTJ
>New Republic established
>Queen Leia balances her family life (Han Solo and two sons) and role as ruler
>predominantly political struggle with some chancellor who wants power for himself
>group of young people have raised Darth Vader to a Che Guevara-like cult status
>radicals within the group set out to find Luke to avenge him
>Luke Skywalker has adopted a pseudonym and lives on a remote area of Tatooine after refusing to take part in the New Republic - just wants peace and quiet. Nobody there knows who he really is.
>radicals track him down; he loses his home and anonymity - travels to the New Republic
>One of Leia's sons has been kidnapped - she asks Luke to find him
>The chancellor blames Leia for the economy falling apart
>As Luke battles the Darth Vader cult, Leia uncovers the chancellor's plot to gain power
>He has enlisted the Darth Vader cult, who attack Leia's home in order to silence her; Han Solo gets killed holding them back long enough for her to escape
>Luke finds the son who is completely fine
>Has voluntarily joined the Darth Vader cult
>Battle ensues
>Luke gets trapped under some rubble and is assumed dead
>Son and others march on the streets, taking control of the government for the chancellor
>credits

Nearly everything wrong with TLJ germinates from TFA. You have to rewrite TFA before you can even rewrite TLJ. That said, a few things to clean up TLJ:

>At least one line of dialogue explaining where Snoke was during OT. Just say he was in hiding because he was an enemy of Palpatine, or Palpatine was his puppet. Done.
>Admiral Ackbar does the Kamikaze attack. Admiral Dyke hair dies unceremoniously.
>Reduce quips by 50 percent.
>Remove two of the following characters; token black, token chink or token spick. Consolidate their roles into one character that actually matters.
>Give a simpler, more obvious reason for Kylo Turning. He sucked as a Jedi-in-training, so Snoke offered him Dark side Steroids. He was under too much pressure because of his lineage and Luke's overbearing mentor-ship. Luke goes into exile in guilt because he knows he put to much pressure on him; explain that because Luke spent all his time focusing on rebuilding the Jedi, he never gave himself a chance to settle down and start a family, so Ben was like a son he never had, and as a result he projected all of his lofty ambitions onto him.
>No Yoda. Luke is TLJ's Yoda. Having Yoda there makes Luke look like a weak bitch
>No shitty casino side-quest with nonsensical animal cruelty and muh 1 percent subtext.

that sounds creepypasta worthy

fuck, this will never happen...

This.

Star Wars reflected well on Pre-WWII views of war. This new Star Wars should have shed light on terrorism and warfare through propaganda and guerilla factions.

It would make an interesting scenario for a space society gripped under the ever present fear of terrorist attacks.

>No Yoda. Luke is TLJ's Yoda. Having Yoda there makes Luke look like a weak bitch

Luke should have been given an end where he finally finds inner peace and disappears through meditation and saying goodbye to Rey or Kylo Ren and then gets enveloped into the light, not some space dust evaporation looking like he's gonna cry.

Basically we have the movie shown up until Rey goes to turn Ren and instead it's Ren and Rey have planned to take out Snoke. Snoke is too powerful and Luke has known all along and sneaks on the shuttle with Rey. Ren and Rey try to best Snoke and get btfo but first kill all the guards as shown. As Snoke is btfoing Rey and Ren Luke shows up last second. Snoke wanted Rey to take her body because he is a force vampire and wants to transfer to the strongest vessel possible. Luke ends up sacrificing himself so that both Kylo and Rey can escape in time and Snoke ends up taking over Luke's body so that in episode 9 we get darkside Luke but it's really Snoke in Luke's body thus preserving the character of Luke while also sending him off when he's defeated in 9 and shown as Luke in force ghost form.

FUUUCK why is anything so much better than what we got?

because what we got was trash as much as it pains me to say it. fucks sake I enjoyed TFA 10x more than TLJ, J.J. may be a one trick pony but at least he respected the medium despite Rey's Mary Sue power.

>he doesn't remember luke communicating with Leia in ESB
>he doesn't know in early drafts of the prequels Lucas wanted to make it more explicitly obvious that Sidious was influencing Anakin to fall in love with Padme and had killed Padme

Retcon all of the trash Disney has ever made. Somehow make Kyle Katarn, The Jedi Academy Founded by Luke on Yavin, and Grand Admiral Thrawn canon.

>Kylo doing bomber run at cruiser
>He hesitates.
>Cuts to Snoke monitoring the fight.
>Orders the other bombers to fire.
>Kylo maneuvers behind his squad and tries to stop them. (by spinning, lots of spinning)
>Not enough time to take them all out, one remains and fires
>A weeping Kylo has a single tear and confesses his shame and regret.
>Before being engulfed in the explosion, Leia closes her eyes and with sigh of relief says out loud 'I know.'

Partner with HBO and turn The Thrawn trilogy into a series and watch it wipe the floor with GoT

The ending is just 10 minutes of news footage of 9/11
