Getting Too Old for Star Wars?

Long story short, I expressed my thoughts on the Last Jedi on a forum and just about everybody disagreed with me. A moderator went so far as to change the thread title to "Old Man is Angry at Star Wars."

But it made me think that maybe it's only older fans that are angry about NuWars. Am I right?
Or are there lots younger fans that hate the new films too?

Genuinely curious if this conflict on taste is a generational gap or something.

>posting on places besides Sup Forums

How do you do it? All other forums seem exponentially worse and even more like echo chambers than this place.

You are a fan, the numales that like this movie are not. They just want another Disney Marvel flavored movie to consume. Thats why the movie is bad. It isn't star wars, it just another disney's marvel movie. Just with a star wars dressing.

I know right? I've had more civil discussions and fun on Sup Forums than most other places. Dunno what's up with that.

Entryism.

They are paid shills who use powerful tacticts to infiltrate and take over online forums.

Im actually sadly not joking. They have cryptography, multiple sock puppets and a cult like worldview.

Theyve basically taken over reddit. They want to ensure only thier views are heard.

Link the thread from the other forum, user.

Or at least re-post your original post.

You're fucking faggots and if I ever see you in real life, I'll fucking stomp your chimp skulls into the fucking pavement. KYS KYS KYS

It isn't that you are getting older. These films are objectively getting shittier.

lol I'm really shaking from the words of some noodle armed soyboy on fucking Sup Forums, I bet you'd have to jump to even try to punch me you manlet

>I read the spoilers for "The Last Jedi" and my fears are worst than I realized. Disney has killed this franchise and I advise everyone to avoid this movie in theaters. You will hate it. As for the spoilers, you can find out for yourself.

This movie is gonna be the ultimate redpill for manchildren
Yes, Star Wars is for KIDS and TEENS not ADULTS
Next we need a redpill for all the DC, MARVEL vommit thats never seems to end

>Getting Too Old for Star Wars?
Normally this happens when you are 16

>Star Wars is for KIDS and TEENS
Knowing that, it is impressive how geriatric this movie feels thanks to all old farts in it. It's for MANCHILDREN actually.

You're the faggot pretending to be nice on fucking Sup Forums like a little SOYBOY FUCKING PUSSY

Any time faggot. Come to Sup Forums and see what real men are like.

Age is irrelevant; I'm young and I thought it was weak.

It's a convoluted, muddled mess of meandering plotlines in which the emotional anchor is a fanfiction-esque pseudo-romance between a Mary Sue and a hilariously edgy neo-nazi. It doesn't work as a "smart film" since the core themes set up earlier in the story are devalued by the end (i.e. "let the past die to be replaced by the future", but the future is functionally identical to the past, replete with rebels, empire, x-wings, Jedi, etc.), and it also doesn't work as dumb popcorn entertainment since it drags on for so long at so slow a pace. The only true height of the film is the scene where they fight the (literally) faceless red guys, which itself feels like an echo of the backhanded compliments the prequels received, e.g. the movie was shit but the lightsaber duel with the red guy was cool.

well what did you expect. That's not a good articulated opinion at all. I mean I agree with you but no wonder no one says 'what a great guy' in that thread

Well said. Thank you.

Yeah, apparently some shill lost his shit last week in one of the mod-assassinated anti-Shareblue threads.

They literally target anything with a userbase of more than 100 regular users.
Because the internet is that fucking fragmented right now. And it's for movies, politics, news and god knows what else.

This is old media and the swamp establishment going into full crisis mode.
A last big push before they die. Not realizing it's only speeding their demise.

Gotta wonder how many normies are being redpilled by all the shitbag reviewers
and journos calling this shitpile the best/second best of the whole series.

i work retail and im near my 30s, all my highschool dropout coworkers say im a grumpy old man when it comes to everything; i just cannot relate with young adults and kids now seem more reactionary when youre vocal about popular things-

im 22 and i hate soy wars. its soyboys and women who like star wars. and its easy to feel like the odd man out because 99 percent of men are soyboys

I'm in my early 20's and I thought it was absolute shit. Embarrassingly bad

Only ones I think could be worse are Phantom Menace and AOTC but neither of them had the abysmal super Leia or Luke being treated like a total bitch!

Middle twenties and I enjoyed it.

Are there any good sci-fi movie/tv shows out there for those of us who liked Star Wars as a kid but can't really get into it any more?
For example I really liked the movie Elysium and the show The 100.

You're arguing with pic related, don't even bother.

>Women
Bingo, that's the only demographic these new movies cater to. Why do you think all the men are being killed off while the strong wamen save the day?

Why does the default filter keep missing this shit, I've inputted 50+ keywords/phrases

what forum? fess up uncle faggy

I'm 21 and I didn't like The Last Jedi, and I thought Force Awakens was decent but not great. My Dad is 62 and Force Awakens is his favourite in the franchise.

I'm 30 and I find myself in the same situation. I don't like what SW has become, but that doesn't mean its bad.
In my eyes, SW went from something alien and fantasy to a little more obvious and filled with relevant themes (the politics of the PT for example). The new trilogy is being built up in the model of the PT, so I really can't get into these films. I'll watch them, but it hurts when it's just not the same.

TLJ didn't make a lot of sense as a movie. It had some really Aesthetic scenes like the hyper-ram by commander gender studies, the nuhoth scene was neat looking as far as color choice went. But there were too many moments in the story that just felt off.
>kylo points out that rey is just some random scraper girl
>We get no explanation behind kylo's master before he just gets killed off
>Mark Hamill is still alive, so lets kill him off instead of Carrie Fisher's character even though she's actually dead
>lets not just kill luke when it would have made more sense to kill Leia, but let's also have him just vanish on his island far away from the battle after projecting himself to fake fight kylo
>we're going to try our best to make a movie that has no real overarching meaning behind it
I'm really hoping I'm just being autistic and completely missed something important in TLJ that should somehow tie it all together in some meaningful way.

I've been wondering this too. I just felt so old walking out of this piece of shit.

I hated almost everything about it, it seemed cynical, dumb nonsense just meaningless action and twists for 3 hours, but when I articulate it like that it sounds like I'm the old man yelling at a cloud.

I'm still sure I'm right to be pissed off at what they did to Luke though.

I just read something about The Expanse, seems like a cool substitute for it.

>Or are there lots younger fans that hate the new films too?

Younger fans haven't lived long enough to watch shit and acquire taste

There are some older movies that are just as interesting, but nothing as spectacular. Forbidden Planet (1956) is pretty fun.

I'm 23 and only gotten real into SW a few years ago. TLJ is so shitty I want to chew through the fucking necks of anybody who actually believes this is comparable to any of the previous films sans Episode II.

Just stop watching things you don't like. It's idiotic that you force yourself to do things you don't enjoy.

>commander gender studies
kek

It's funny how you're supposed to think of her as some heroic, strong female who should be in charge, but just as irl, she's anything but.

Same with Rose. Doing shit without thinking only so she can feel good about it. "It was worth it" They'll just round up the animals later and abuse them even more.

Most of the bad guys were white men.
The police were all white men.
Most of the humans at the casino were white.

The resistance was muh diversity and stronk women in power.

Luke was debased and suicided for this.

I'm 25 and the last jedi sucked

This. A children movie is not so cynical.

I'd say "let the past die" is part of the meaning, FA was too close to the original films plot points, this one moves things further away and alows the next one to truly be its own thing.

>tfw KOTOR was a more faithful star wars narrative than TFA or TLJ

First off this movie was the best in the Star Wars cannon. If you don't agree, then at least most people would say it's the best since Return of the Jedi. Action packed, fun, with some goofy quips and fun to enjoy. You might now love the Ewoks in Jedi, but everyone agrees that they're fun right?

This is one of the better sci fi movies too... I think a lot of people are just getting worked up cause Disney has chosen to refocus the series toward diversity and empowerment of women in our society rather than just making the usual sci fi. A lot of people are behind the curve on that.

Even if you have a problem with that the fact is that this is one of the most entertaining and incredible Star Wars movies yet, and you CAN'T miss it, because ... face it guys, it's Star Wars haha. We ALL know you're going to watch it anyway! So make the most of it guys, with this legendary film.

Literally where are you I’ll show up and buttfuck you and your cat right now little soy goy

Guardians of the Galaxy is the new Star Wars

23yo, hate the new series, loved the original trilogy, especially ESB

>it’s a limpdicked leftypol soyboy rollplaying as a Sup Forums tard

to be fair, kotor2 is (by far) the best piece of fiction in the star wars universe outside the original trilogy

Nah, that's Dark Forces.

*Dark Forces II

as someone who has never been a hardcore SW fan but always loved to watch the movies (both OT and PT), the shows (Clone Wars, Rebels) and play the games (KOTOR, Jedi Knight), I have to say that the Disney trilogy is objectively bad. It has nothing to do with being too old or nostalgic. Characters (Snoke, Phasma) are set up but go nowhere. Storylines are set up (Snoke being the big bad, Knights of Ren) but tossed aside. TFA and especially TLJ are literal jokes due to the extensive use of funny lines in serious situations. Some plots are literally useless like the Finn&Rose having a secret plan which after an hour ends in failure while other plots are straight up retarded like the purple haired bitch not being able to tell Poe what the goddamn plan is. What Disney did to Luke is a whole other level of shit. Only thing I can accept is Rey's parents being literally who because of the whole "everyone can be a hero" thing even though it was explored before and marketed as a big secret

No matter how you twist it, the new movies are bad while TLJ is the worst of the bunch. There's no way denying it in a proper discussion that doesn't have one party going "but it's just fun!"

>too old for Star Wars?

you can watch a well written movie at any age

everyone just doesn't care these movies are shameless rehashes
terribly done ones, makes me sick but yeah i guess we're just too old

why sweep perfectly fine arguments under the rug though with shitty excuses like "you're too old for this", "you're only being nostalgic", etc? the movies are badly executed, there's no point in denying that. fuck, you could probably ask everyone in the industry in private and they would tell you that the movies are shit and only retards can get a joy out of them. these movies are nothing for star wars fans and they're nothing for people who love movies as an art form

it's the cynicism of the new films that really strikes me. han and leia are broken up (how modern and 'realistic', exactly what children want from a fantasy story) and they've failed as parents. luke is a broken-down loser whose achievements and triumphs were all undone and made to mean nothing. this isn't a film for kids - it's a film for wallowing millennials who like to feel validated in their cynical, faux-worldly outlooks by media.

I like all the movies and actually loved watching R1 last year.
For this i just came out feeling empty and have just come to the conclusion that these movies are just not made for me anymore.
It felt like the movie was trying to tell me to just let go of Star Wars and get on with my life.

Kind of made me feel down because its been a significant part of my childhood but I think this movie killed SW for me in one fell swoop
Bravo Rian/KK/Disney

Younger folk lap this shit up. Note the difference in age between the people that liked ep. 1, 2, 3 and those that don't. Same exact situation.

On agreement user. I grew up in star wars. I read all the books in middle School. I ate and slept Star wars until high school in my free time. I actually love the vong.

I've since outgrew the phase but Star wars had a warm place in my heart. Now, I'm just ready to give up on it. There are better fiction storiea, especially in the fantasy realm.

I'm not sure, my younger brother (15) hated the film. Based generation zyklon.

i was born in the 90's watched the original trilogy before the prequels and still hate the NuWars. Its not you the franchise has definitely gone downhill.

this and badly written movie + cynicism = shit movie

>it's a film for wallowing millennials who like to feel validated in their cynical, faux-worldly outlooks by media

it really is, especially the thing with Rey's parents. it literally paints a picture of everyone being special. if everyone is special though, nobody is

ive heard this argument alot, im bad at shooters is the story really good?

>long-time Star Wars fan
>watch TLJ
>"maybe I should get on with my life"

or maybe, you know, the movie is just bad? maybe it's not you but the talentless hacks who thought the idea of including a scene where Luke milks some alien would be a good scene to put in the movie?

Not sure how young you mean but I'm 19 and hate Nu-Wars. I basically grew up with the prequels (As a kid RotJ and AotC were my favorites literally because they had the most green lightsabres in) but I can look back and realise how shitty they were.
Honestly a lot of people my age feel the same way (probably still a minority but still a pretty substantial amount), it's the current 20-30 year olds who refuse to grow up are the people consuming capeshit/nu-wars/etc.

GOTTA GET BACK TO MY SHIP

Sup Forums is by far the worst place for actual discussion

Honestly I kind of can't wait to see how Ep IX is going to turn out, if only to see whether not killing off Leia ends up biting them in the ass

cause they have no other argument I guess man
I'm 22 so I don't even understand people calling me an old man online for having major problems with this movie

There are a lot of pseudo nerds pretending to be all about the original trilogy. Most of the people here weren't even born when the original trilogy came out and have outgrown the whole star wars shit show since the prequel trilogy came out. Most of the nuwars shitflinging is from people who grew up with jar jar and angsty teen anakin jumping on the contrarian bandwagon.

Not him but even if the movies were better I'd still be in favor of them totally dying off. The OT was great in its time but Star Wars should not be a headline element of American pop culture for 50 fucking years. I'd much rather see it all detonated and give the next generation an open slate instead of being imprisoned by nostalgia pandering to the people 20 years older than them.

I dunno, I preferred KOTOR I myself.

Either way, outside of the original Battlefront II and Original Trilogy, these games are much better than most of the other crap in the SW universe

Sounds exactly like you're describing Star Wars a s a whole.

Heard this asked more than i care to talk about..Dude you aren't old...Shit sucks nowadays and faggot ass young people wanna defend it because they feel like you are attacking them personally so they make shit up like Nostalgia glasses etc etc etc..The last jedi was the worst fucking star wars movie i have ever seen..yoda destroying all the jedi texts and shit was a spit upon the face of star wars..fuck this movie and fuck disney

Yes, TFA and TLJ spends all of its time deconstructing Star Wars instead of building interesting characters and stories. They are tearing down the old beautiful Star Wars architecture and palaces that everyone know and love and building ugly commie blocks for all the poor people in its place in the name of progress and equality.

>Phantom Menace
>bad
Shit was better than half of the star wars movies made

I'm in my late 20s and felt the most recent film was just tedious. I went into it with high hopes, but it just dragged on and on. Everything played out exactly as you would expect and all of the bits for the fans felt forced and awkward. I don't know if it was actually bad compared to the others, or if I just don't like star wars anymore. I enjoyed the films as a kid, but thinking about it now, I have no desire to go rewatch any of the films in the series.

Actual normie women don't even like this kind of horrible, dyke-ish and masculine ""badass""" heroines, they like female characters that are strong but also cute or sexy/feminine/stilish.
Disney is basically going against their own interets just to be approved by an extremely vocal minority and to be looked as good guys by neoliberal media.

I can't wait either. TLJ was straight up bad but there are some storylines they could at least build upon and not let just be shit the way they are now

>Snoke being literally of no value as a character
bring him back as a ghost and even greater threat and I'd be fine with it
>Knights of Ren not being in TLJ at all
make them be Kylo's bodyguards in the next one
>Luke dying a shitty death
Let him fight against ghost Snoke and finally have a proper fucking fight with no bullshit involved
>Rey's parents are nobody
Snoke made Kylo imagine things as it was stated in TLJ by Snoke himself and let Rey's parents be someone important

I can understand and respect people enjoying it but calling it a good movie is right out wrong

My mom who grew up with the orignal trilogy even said after we watched last jedi she thinks star wars is getting old.

Star Wars is not getting old, they are ruining it. Rey is just another marvel mutant instead of a jedi. They are turning Star Wars into communist capeshit.

I agree but I've been yelled at and called a moron and whenever I bring something clearly wrong up I'm told I'm the only one.. like clearly I'm not and I point out other people but those people must just hate women.. cause that makes sense I wouldn't even give a fuck if this movie was just black women playing every role it wouldn't change how trash the plot is

Well, that's what I mean. The movies are just going to continue along this path of shit.

ha, nt with abrams directing it

dude, you should never try to argue with 1. plebs 2. women and 3. SJWs. there's just no point

>1. don't know anything about movies and eat every piece of shit movie up they can get
>2. 99% the same as 1.
>3. don't know jack shit about movies AND have to resort to politics while arguing about fucking movies of all things

it's like telling a crack addict that they have a problem, you just can't get through. gotta say though that often enough, proper discussions about this kind of shit are even impossible on this shitty board. I'm really surprised that TLJ is an exception since astoundingly lots of people here, although pissed off, are really level-headed in discussions

No it's not. It's just that in Sup Forums no one will refrain for mocking you if you say something stupid. But the anonimity allows you to "dress" on new ideas for the sake of discussion, admit things that you wouldn't dare on any other media afraid from the repercussion and you can actually be honest with yourself and others. It's the best place to evolve your arguments and the last place on earth where you're allowed to disagree.

they will but then I'll at least have a reason not to watch them anymore. will definitely watch Ep9 and maybe even the Obi Wan movie but that's it. never liked Han Solo so won't be seeing his movie and not interested in Rey's trilogy at all. maybe I'll just watch the cartoons that take place in the OT and PT

My dad said the same thing. Saw the first Star Wars when he was ten on a class field trip. After TLJ he said that anyone who thought that was good probably needed a lobotomy

Funnily enough a group of nu-males heard him and told him that old-men like him shouldn't be allowed to leave the house if his opinion was going to be negative. He retorted that "fags such as yourselves shouldn't have the right to live". Got a good laugh out of that one.

OP here. This thread made me feel better and it's been an entertaining read. Thank you. Carry on.

You don't have to make up ridiculous shit for the internet, nobody cares that much

kek, your dad is fucking based and right at that. people can't take negative opinions anymore, it's getting pathetic at this point

>want free speech
>don't want negative free speech

pick fucking one ffs

>Star Wars is getting old

it's not getting old, it's just getting SHIT. give Lucas the chance to do a Old Republic movie and tell me Star Wars is getting old again. that movie would break records and people would suck his dick big time for even giving fans what they wanted for years

I wish you people would pay more attention to context.

Ask any Disney fan and they'll tell you that once you get to about 18, you cease to exist for the organization unless and until you become a parent. They want the family audience, and that's all. They happily consign their older properties other than the big hits/masterpieces to limbo. This thinking has now been applied to their new acquisition, Star Wars. That's all that's happening - Star Wars' latest chapter actively tells old fans to drop dead the way every other channel of Disney's activities has always done.

27 and I agree.

>the last place on earth

Try leaving the house sometime.

You have a right to your opinion. But how in your right mind could you like it?

What if I told you I wasn't lying?

Yeah I stopped trying to argue a day after the movie came out because I realized I was using logic and they were using feelings. I just wrap my head around anyone that thinks this is the greatest SW movie but ROTS is trash. Mind blown, seems the live on a different plant and don't even understand movies.

22 years old, grew up watching the special edition vhs tapes of the original. The prequels made the intimidating Vader seem like an emo kid. This film destroyed Luke's character. I consider the prequels to be fun Star Wars stories with some poor writing. Nu-wars is shitty fanfiction that is an abomination to the originals. I thought TFA was a rehash but I reserved judgment until this movie came out. Nu-wars is garbage that I will never show my kids. I will show my kids the prequels if they ask why the movies start at episode IV. One of my sisters thought it was 'disappointing' but she didn't have raw hatred for it like I do, she felt similarly to me on TFA. One of my other sisters liked TFA, still waiting on her to tell me what she thinks.

I had friends that had 14 year old kids that walked out of that movie shocked and disappointed. I think generally kids like it more but that isn't always true.

Battlestar Galactica

Which is not a particularly smart move given that Star Wars has and always will be nerd territory unless Di$ney wants to miss out on prime $hekels.

Nice dubs.
25 yo here. I've ben fan of Sw since I was 6 or 7 yo. I hate the Disney Star Wars with passion. Fuck them and their fans.

Also:
This.

Adults dont want their kids watching jew propaganda.
