Chuck Austen

How did he find so much work in comics? Did he ever write anything that wasn't outright soap opera-tier garbage? I just read both his X-Men and Avengers runs and I regret every fucking second of it.

>plot hinges on the Catholic Church collapsing because they believe the Rapture is happening
>in real life Catholics don't believe in the Rapture

Don't forget that an elderly nun with no superpowers somehow is able to crush the skulls of her two henchmen with her bare hands

he wrote some good issues of Action Comics, Superman: Metropolis was pretty cool, War Machine was badass, Eternals was alright and his two manga series were passable
plus girl Captain Britain wasn't the worst
and Squid Boy/Good Guy Juggernaut was enjoyable

Austen being bad is a meme

He started as an artist amd drew for Alan Moore's Miracleman (under the name of Chuck Beckum pic related was drawn by him) but be didn't last long and dree like one issue and then from that he just started getting more art jobs until eventually he landed a writing gig at Marvel.

Right now he's working as a Supervising Producer for Steven Universe and does stuff for Disney Television Animation.

His Action Comics was mostly garbage, he wrote Clark like a frat boy. His X-Men material is completely undefendable and is in contention for one of the worst runs of ALL TIME. His Avengers was a trash heap of terrible characterization and avoids infamy because of how short the run was. That's not counting trash like Worldwatch.

Austen being bad is not a meme. It's the simple truth.

He got worse as he went on. His War Machine was pretty good, his first few issues of X-Men were alright, but he got worse and worse until he was writing issues of Action Comics under a pseudonym because people were avoiding books with his name on them.

I prefer him to bendis.

>Supervising Producer for Steven Universe

Keeping trash in the trash can.

How about his porn comic?

He even got marvel to publish this gem

That was him? Jesus christ.

Why does the Thing get so many rip offs?

this.

and since when has X-men being a soap opera been bad? thats the only time they are good

I'll fight anyone who says his War Machine isn't a good book

i wanna read this now

the only reason his x-men run gets so much shit is because he had to follow Grant Morrisons run. and hipsters are buncha fickle bitches.

true and Morrison's run is fucking stupid to real X-fans
Austen's Marvel work> Morrison's Marvel work

agreed

Morrison's X-Men was great. Austen's Marvel catalogue, namely his X-Men, Avengers, and War Machine 2.0, is an embarrassment to not only the company, but comics in general.

>Demon trapped in another dimension comes to our world to impregnate tons of women and create sons with teleporting powers that when adult, will allow him to create a portal that will free him from the dimension he's trapped in so that he can come on earth.

I unironically like parts of his Action Comics. He really put 'action' back into Action, and gave Superman believable threats. The ending with Doomsday and Gog was cool (ofc, it's not clear how much of that he wrote), and I liked Preus for how edgy he was. That sweet Reis art also helped.
There were also some retardation, like teasing Superman-Lana, and Superman being a bully.

Wasn't that just softcore? Anyways I prefer the ones he drew.

>real X-fans

wew lad

wtf, I love Austin now!

bump

> poser models

I honestly can't put it past him, at least Ryan Kinnaird had the forethought to draw the faces by hand

>Anyways I prefer the ones he drew.
He took ten years to finish that book by which point every single character was an irredeemable asshole except the flat chested brunette. I bought these thinking Austen was trying to make a point about people and it just ended up being that he writes edgy, unsympathetic twats.
