"See, Agrias. That guy said 'Yes.' That could mean anything! He could have said 'hai' which is more respectful, or 'n' which is more casual. It could be any of those two things! And that time he said 'brother.' Don't EVEN get me started on onii vs aniki. Ha ha."

Sup Forums is tsun tsun for anime

>dubs

...

Ronnie is a national treasure that needs to be kept safe.

If the voices are done well I prefer dubs usually. Then again, I barely watch any anime to begin with.

Relatable

...

the only good english dubs are cromartie high, ippo and gto

Yuyu Hakusho

GITS: SAC
Cowboy Bebop
Big O

I like the dub for Cowboy Bebop, Black Lagoon, and GITS. If I recall, the creator of Black Lagoon had said the dub was better.

Dubs can be good, but it's incredibly rare.

The GITS dubs were pretty good.

Which is why I ordered Kimi no Na wa direct from Japan.

Unfortunately, Amazon Japan international shipping requires a signature.

Same. Given the option, I'll always go with the dub unless it's just unbearably bad.

Miyazako has it right on why he doesn't have (official) sub versions of his films, it's meant to be watched, not read. It helps keep focus on the animation and is overall more enjoyable.

For some reason English language anime dubs always sound like they picked up the first undergrad students they could find for dubbing the voices.

The FLCL dub is great you little bitch

...

Hellsing Ultimate and Cowboy Bebop

...

>usually paint or build things while watching TV

Literally cannot do subs. I like being able to look away from the TV for a bit without losing much.

Alternatively for a very action heavy or beautiful piece it feels really shitty to just stare at the bottom 1/4 of the screen the whole time.

Space dandy

Pretty sure all the Ghibli DVDs/Blurays I have came with Japanese language tracks and subtitles.
It's true thought that Ghibli films usually have pretty good dubs.
>dat Nina Hagen as Yubaba in German Spirited Away dub

gungrave
samurai champloo

Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt

Dub of the year all years.

You've not known horror until you accidentally hear the K-On dub.

I just found out there's dubbed recordings of the songs from the first season.

...

personally, i really liked the dub of mob psycho 100. thought mob's voice was perfect.. unlike one punch man's dubbed voice.. ugh

REDLINE and Sadamitsu The Destroyer.

Too bad Ryan Renolds was busy.

I can't tell if you're serious or not.

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood.

Funimation's Initial D and Pioneer's Red Jacket Lupin III

Ghost Stories

Sup Forums is half Sup Forums and half Sup Forums.

...

>Vic Mignignog
>good
>ever

It's his one good role. Just like Johnny Yong Bosch as Vash.

Golden Boy, nigger.

IT'S DANDY, BABY

Hey, some of us are just very old, very bitter Sup Forums natives.

it was cool hearing his voice in that one ep of bee and puppycat

>Watching dubs

I mean tere are a few exceptions but on a whole dubs are pretty fucking terrible

>no Baccano
>no GITS

fucking fight me nigger

BONES actually reanimated all the lip flaps so it would match the English dub. Space Dandy's dub is so fucking good.

If I wanted to read I'd pick up the manga.

Berserk dub was god-tier.

Inuyasha. If you think the English dub is annoying, believe me, the Japanese one is worse.

The point is to get through all of your community college Japanese textbooks so you can watch it in Japanese with no subtitles.

Somebody's never heard of Ghost Stories.

Best part is the outtakes.

Japanese dubs > Japanese subs > Spanish dubs > English subs > English dubs > AIDS infested shit >>> Spanish subs

It's the weirdest thing ever. We've got a fairly good dubbing industry because that's what we're used to do, so there's always experienced profesionals working on it.
Subbing is cheap, the amateur route, so faggots just steal english subs and pass them through google translator.

Any french, german or other ESL that can give their point of view?

There's no money in anime. VAs for anime work cheap. If they actually have any talent they graduate to cartoons and videogames.

cowboy bebop is GOAT dud but confusingly samurai champloos is utter shit.

Tales of Seduction and Ghost Stories aren't half as good subbed as they are dubbed.

>I WANNA BE AN AIRBORNE RANGER.

Then why do all of his movies have shitty movie actors that probably spend the whole process asking "What am I doing again? Voicing a cartoon? Why?" instead of actual VAs that do it for a living?

kys

I can see that but after i started learning japanese i started approving japanese voice acting more

But japanese Mob was even better

I thought anime was generally drawn before dialogue was recorded.

kiss kiss

*mwaaa*

Usually it is but I assume they made an exception for Space Dandy because CN put up a decent chunk of it's production budget.

What did he mean by this?

That spoiler text speaks to me. Thing is though, even the subs fuck it up. I'm starting to listen to the actual VAs carefully to correct retarded translations. I don't know jap but I know enough to know when it's wrong. Fuck you persona 5

I dont understand why reading those subtitles is so hard. Is it american thing?

To be fair, unlike South America American dubs are fucking horrible and everybody talks like a porn star(which is pobably the real job of most of the nonames doing it)

No half measures or excpetions. Dubs go in the trash.

Purityfags need to be gassed

Well the show is shit anyway

Half the fucking fun is them swearing in Engrish which they can't to in English. Are you munted?

>Pshh... nobody for the parcel, kid.

Must have really liked the post.

slutlovers need to be gassd. Go cake or go home.

Ronnie has shit fucking taste in anime anyway so the "muh subs/dubs" joke doesn't even make sense. Watching garbage in its original language doesn't make it any less garbage.

This.

>Celebrities can't be good voice actors because I think they're all snobs
Pathetic

I laughed for a good minute. Then I cried.

...

I prefer dubs just for the reason they don't use honorifics every other sentence.

But when the script decides to use wordplay on watshi/watakushi/boku/ore, you can't really translate that smoothly in a dub.

>samurai champloos is utter shit

say that to my face not online and see what happens

But that actually matters and gives you context for the relationship between the characters.

Good writing would show the relationship between characters, not tell you with a heavy handed "they are friends, they aren't friends, he respects him etc"

Maybe the writers shouldn't be so shit they need to rely on them to establish relationships.

If you're talking about like being rude or polite and shit like that, that is easily done in other ways.

They did try, though.

The problem here is also that the sub was slightly sub par, and didn't translate conversations if there was a voice over. The dub did, which really only mattered in one scene, but it is a positive point about it. Obviously, the sub could've been superior simply by translating those too, but we'll have to wait on that.

...

I just hope the import blu-ray decides to do what Ghibli does and add English subs to their Japanese discs. If not, I'm still buying it anyway, but it'd be a nice bonus considering Japan and America share a blu-ray region code.

...

...

Or maybe they could just use their native language to its fullest and communicate something in a single word, like they already do?

It'd be nice to get some translations of the diary entries and notebook notes, considering what they add to the characters who already fighting to get their characterizations out there with how dense the movie is, but I expect that even less than generally updated subs in either version.

Supposedly the English subs or some English subs premiered in Japan first on a limited run with the dubbed songs, so it's likely some kind of English subtitling will be on the Japanese Blu Rays.

It is horrifying for me to watch a clown handle a long balloon, twisting it into whimsical animal shapes, as though he is completely unaware that he is manipulating a grenade of rubber shrapnel. I've found no other reason for this exercise than their vicious schadenfreude in making you carry the dangerous object around until its ear-piercing death rattle.

the only english dubs i watch are shows made in english, translated to japanese and then redubbed in english by shitty knockoff producers

There is nothing wrong with purity but japan does go sometimes too far

Last year, I flew to Japan just to watch Zootopia with a Japanese dub and no subtitles.

They got some nice theaters there.

But they are important especially if anime takes place in japan

I'm not that user but the Engrish in the original was annoying. The bad jokes in the dub are amusing if you don't take it seriously. Why would anyone take PSWG serious in the first place?
