>The Force Awakens releases >found it to be an awkward, poorly paced, unenjoyable, derivative mess, even tried to give it another chance when the BluRay was released and ended up turning it off before the end >even the most cynical critic fucking loved it
>The Last Jedi releases >felt it fixed many of the problems TFA had and was a compelling, original, well-acted movie and generally one of the more enjoyable Hollywood blockbusters I've seen in a while >all the fans fucking hated it Anyone else feel this way? I am seriously confused by the backlash and feel like I'm living in some sort of opposite world.

nope they are both shit

I agree OP. Very strange reaction from the fans. I personally enjoyed it even though it had flaws, as most movies do.
Luke Sanchez
I most agree.
TFA was a very shallow and superficial film. I also couldn't complete it on a repeat viewing, as it felt so boring.
TLJ I've seen twice at the cinema, and yet I want to watch again. It's a flawed movie no doubt, but I somehow liked it
Ayden Perez
excellent work. here is your payment.

my nigger.
>Hated TFA >Hated Rogue One >Went into TLJ expecting fully to rip it apart and hate it, even had the whole thing spoiler and shitposted on here >Even when the movie started, kept waiting to hate it >Walked out loving it

ITT: GotG fans find a star wars that fits their quirky humor quota.
Hudson Morales
That was TFA.
Henry Adams
There's way more forced, baby-brain humor in TLJ.
Owen Richardson
Disney's desperate.

This.

this is what happening to the MODS the cycling through all the non capeshit and starshit threads
Jason Lopez
This. TFA was just empty references. The humour was okay. TLJ was a quipfest on par with post GOTG Marvel.
DUDE PRANK CALLING THE ENEMY SHIP BECAUSE PEOPLE KNOW WHAT HOLDING ON PHONES IS IN THIS UNIVERSE LMAO XDXDXD
Eli Morris
Joke's on you, I watched TLJ by myself and felt very lonely in the packed theatre full of merry groups of friends

what color is gonna be the nextt one?

TFA was a copy of New Hope with pretty simple plot and some energetic characters that look like they might develop in an interesting ways.
I found this movie to be far more insulting for many reason.
>The humor was cringy and out of place >the plot was way too convoluted, didn't feel like Star Wars instead it was like a Pirates sequel >it wanted to "fool you" or "subvert you" all the time which led to a series of really annoying scenes >pandering to the fringe leftist for half the movie , you have tumblr lesbian shaming the most masculine character and teaching him a life lesson in her infinite wisdom, even gave her purple hair, rich people are evil dude , dude the millitary industrial complex no good or evil *hits blunt >Luke equated to a child molesting uncle >Luke constantly humiliated , and his "redemption" not even half as impressive as admiral tumblr >pad pacing >bad story structure >barely any character development >full circle from TFA
I could go on and on.
Yes, this movie has good high points and yes they're the best Star Wars has ever been, yes the red mineral planet is brilliant the footsteps, that everything looks like blood, too bad it just felt like a bad rushed second climax after the actual climax.
So yes, TFA , mediocre, not very original , fun movie but at least it understood some of what made Star Wars great.
TLJ better high points but overall not that enjoyable because the director is a pretentious hack
Elijah Reed
I liked TFA and hated TLJ, and it is hard for me to not like a movie so yes it sucked

>Very strange reaction from the fans. I'm not surprised at all. The thing about a franchise like this is that a movie never stands by itself. It doesn't even really stand among the other movies in the franchise; because Star Wars is such a massive cultural force that people invest so much time and thought it, a movie has to compete with what fans want, expect, and have invested into it. And that's pretty much impossible for an movie with two years of hype and fan speculation behind it. With Star Wars, it's even worse than most other huge franchises because the sheer amount of material (with a pretty messy history) means that every single fan has a different idea about lore.
Star Wars is a huge part of peoples' lives, and they don't like having their headcanon fucked with. That's why the vast majority of criticism around this movie has to do with people being disappointed that their expectations weren't met, and their fan theory didn't happen. People are ruining this movie for themselves.
I couldn't recommend it more! Be sure to take your family and friends to see it. In fact, movie tickets would make a great stocking stuffer if you're still looking for holiday gift ideas!
I shall be sure to recommend it more heartily to everyone I know!

I liked TLJ. I thought it was a little long. I felt the casino stuff could be cut out and everything would still be okay. I thought it was weird that Leia & Co spent the whole movie traveling at the same distance from Snoke's ship. I felt that it blended OT and PT kind of stuff together in a decent enough way though. You have the weird "new" stuff like Casino World and the OT stuff with Luke and Leia. I like that Rey and Snoke are just random people though. I like that Kylo is reverse-Vader and kinda reverse-Luke. Overall I liked it. I don't agree that it totally raped my childhood and ruined SW forever.

I don't disagree with your analysis of Last Jedi but I quite enjoyed Force Awakens, so I think I might just be easy to please.
Ian Butler
>easy to please Same. I'm glad I am, makes media a lot enjoyable.

I could not agree more with OP. Whereas I felt TFA was a generic nostalgia driven retread of ANH, The Last Jedi truly broke new ground. I had heard the rumors that questionable decisions had been made prior to me seeing it properly on the IMAX screen, but when I finally saw it for a sixth time it all made sense.
The Last Jedi is a landmark movie and the best installment in the cinematic Star Wars universe. Williams is firing on all cylinders and the new characters will make you laugh and cry. I recommend everyone watch it at least seven times in IMAX to completely digest the dense material.

TLJ is above average "subtle" for the Mavel crowd.
It has the wackyness of the originals (weird inhabitants of Luke's island) and way more emotional depth (Luke's sendoff).
Levi Wilson

This was me as well. Thought it was much better than TFA, and certainly better than the prequels.
