Why hasn't there been a really good pirate movie lately? All we've been getting is Pirates of the Caribbean, which is watered down bloated Disney crap (first one was fun though). But why in hell is the best pirate themed media to come out relatively recently a video game about assassins and alien artifacts? I mean look how cool this looks: youtu.be
Why can't we have a movie with bigass wooden ships, cursing, stabbing, shooting, looting, (raping)?
Why hasn't there been a really good pirate movie lately? All we've been getting is Pirates of the Caribbean...
>Hollywood decides to do a pirate movie
>black woman with an afro decides to show the boys how it's down
>typical liberal niggerwood comedy costaring Kevin Hart and Amy Schumer
>moral of the story is that pirates are good natured people that never steal unless its from da white man.
this movie was good
>this pasty cringlord again
do you ever go outside? can you fit through the door anymore?
Black Sails
Man, Black Flag was so fucking cool. I don't know if I've ever had as epic of a feeling as I did commanding the ship during naval battles.
Pirate movies are astronomically expensive, and rarely make money. Yes Pirates of the Caribbean did, but that's the exception, not the rule.
Basically how it would go nowadays
It was pretty good aye, but I want something a little more authentic. Something darker. Something brutal. I wanna see actual pirates doing pirate things is the thing.
This. Making a pirate movie in Hollywood is basically going around asking people to throw 250 million into a burning trashcan and ruin all the actors involved.
Can someone explain to me why pirates are considered fun and quirky? Weren't they a bunch of violent thieves and rapists? Why the fuck did Disney make movies about them? At least in Peter Pan they were the antagonists
blaaah pierats. nononononono no more pierats!
>Can someone explain to me why pirates are considered fun and quirky?
Because this is the biggest pirate franchise in the world
>inb4 Weeb
You have no idea how big OP is in Japan
potc was a success as a film though
I did some digging and found there are two pirate shows: Black Sail and Crossbones. Can anyone who's seen either tell me what they're like?
and that has absolutely no bearing on the west
The girl in disguise with the childbearing hips was cute.
Older movies really. It's the same reason why everyone thinks that they spoke with a ridiculously overblown Somerset accent
they're too expensive
Crossbones is unwatchable, don't bother
Black Sails is kino until half way through season 2. Then it has a twist that destroys the best character. It also gets completely SJWified.
I'm not just whining about that for no reason, they make some whore take center stage to show how stronk women are and she's sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo boring. She's not even a pirate. Ugh. Max is soooo bad post season 1.
I still liked Black Sails a lot. Great music too. But it turned to disappointing slop.
How would this be considered a bad investment, but they thought the all female remake of the Ghostbusters was a seller? Or the videogame movies that are constantly being made?
If you want boatkino there's always the Hornblower movies, even if they're not about pirates at all
because pirates were technically 80's rockstars
Black Sails is solid. It has a few ups and downs here and there but overall fantastic.
It does suffer from some common tropes (stronk wimin, etc) but ts handled deftly and presented in a reasonable fashion for the most part, no Vikings-esque shemales. And as usual, the three main leads carry the show. Team Vane all the way.
There's only 3 seasons tho. Others will try to convince you there's 4, and might even show you footage, but there is no season 4.
Say it with me: There is no Season 4.
>hey, let's get Ray Stevenson as blackbeard
>lol now do literally nothing with him for 3 seasons then get rid of him
What were they thinking?
YAGSBARRO?
WILL YOU DO THIS FOR ME
PLEES
yea this was pretty bad, we didn't even get the campy DAMAGED Blackbeard after you know what happened.
That demise of Blackbeard scene though.
God, that was tense.
can someone explain this movie posters with the border cropped meme? is it a phoneposting thing?
still waiting on carruth's pirate movie, guaranteed 10/10 kino
youtube.com
I miss season 1 of Black Sails
It was pure kino. Nothing makes me rage more than people saying it "gets better" because it gets so much worse.
Season 1 starts a little slow but it's still fantastic.
watch Bronson
is that movie still even being developed? also not sure thats the aesthetic people want when they are looking for a pirate movie
>they censored the manowar battle on youtube
It's like they don't want me to shill their show and get people to watch it. Fine.
This is by far the best pirate movie ever made.
part 2 is most expensive porn movie ever
I made a thread about pirates 2 days ago and got no replay, Sup Forums is really a shit board
It's a fast board overrun by plebbitors, but not shit.
Or you're just a shit OP lmao
the real question is when are zombies going to fuck off forever
Too much spitting.
Sometimes the wind doesn't blow, you should know this as a seaman user
next time use this image and caption it 'YAGSPARRO"
guaranted replies, either from yagposters, or filthy pierats saying it's dead meme
It's also not as good as the first.
Watchable though.
Fuck that music is good.
Probably the most realistic one too at this point.
Fast board? Nope desu. Even with 50 Star Wars thread per day
But I get nices dubs Any movie recommendations?
Is season 4 really bad? I just started watching and just finished the part where they reveal that a certain character is a fag, so I’ve got a little way to go
few, but thery are very, very dated, be aware some are even black&white
why are you even posting on Sup Forums when you don't even know what basic fucking shows and movies there are? fuck off retard
season 4 is just boring. I barely remember it. The finale is awful. I'd just watch the climatic battle on youtube.
That said 4 wasn't that much worse than 3. 3 also sucks though.
So does 2 but 2 is a bit better other than fagging up the best character
youtu.be
Man why the fuck is Sup Forums getting all the good shit? I want my pirate kino damn it!
Just say the names user, I'll try to search on Pirate Bay :^)
So is season 1 any good or is it all bad?
well cinematic games like this barely have any gameplay so even if you're not a gamer you can still experience it
I consider it absolute piratekino. It starts a little slow but to me it was authentic and I enjoyed it. It also builds up very well, everything comes together in the end very nicely.
That said the predominant opinion is that season 2 is a lot better.. I disagree with that.
Season 1 is great though imo.
Can watch the first ep here: youtube.com
The intro is good enough to decide if you want to see more.
In 1992, "Conan" and "Wall Street" producer Edward R. Pressman wanted to make a Captain Blood remake directed by Oliver Stone and starring Alec Baldwin.
In 1993, the project was supposed to be directed by "Die Hard" and "Predator" director John McTiernan with Mel Gibson as the star. McTiernan brings in writer Jonathan Heinsleigh to develop the film with him. Gibson then exits to join "Conan''s John Milius' film "The Northmen" about Vikings, another project that never got made.
In 1994, Arnold replaces Gibson and hires an artist to draw a poster to help the project get made. McTiernan leaves. Shooting is supposed to begin in 1995 with the "The Mask" director Chuck Russell, using Heinsleigh's script. Another pirate movie, "Cutthroat Island" is released in 1995 and flops so producers drop the project.
McTiernan and Hensleigh, disappointed the project fell through but having enjoyed working together, develop Die Hard 3 instead. Arnold and Russell make Eraser instead. Gibson, disappointed he couldn't make badass historical epics with either McTiernan or Milius, makes Braveheart instead. Milius co-wrote a draft of Die Hard 3 but is uncredited, he semi-retired after his film didn't get made.
There's another timeline (the one where Verhoeven made Crusade and Leone made Leningrad) where Captain Blood and The Northmen exist but Braveheart and Die Hard 3 don't (or perhaps a completely different DH3 with a script from Milius).
>20s-40s
The Black Corsair (30s and later 70s movie)
The Black Pirate (20s silent movie)
The Buccaneer (30s, later 50s)
>50s-70s
Blackbeard the Pirate
Captain Kidd
The Crimson Pirate
The Pirate and the Slave Girl
>80s-90s
Cutthroat Island
Hook (peter pan, not really serious)
Pirates (roman polansky movie)
good half of these are pure shit, they feel cheap and lack a lot, but hard to find better. Disney pirates got budget, but they are not serious enough
>twist that destroys best character
No it fucking doesn't. It's the only "twist" of that sort that has ever worked because it doesn't feel forced. But yeah, it did get very SJWified.
Although I find pic related hot as fuck
>It also builds up very well, everything comes together in the end very nicely.
it comes together like shit because it was supposed to be longer and they just pushed as much crap into season 4 as they could to end it, worst season by far
Because Pirates of the Caribbean is one of their most popular and revered theme park rides that is held up as the Citizen Kane of dark rides.
Fantastic post, user.

So true
REMINDER that LIVE ACTION AMERICAN ADAPTATION of ONE PIECE was again confirmed to be still on track and their is NOTHING you can do to stop it.
Also One Piece is about to beat Batman in all time sales.
But who will play my friend Zoro?
Weeb shit
EEEEEYYYYY YUG PURROOO
YAGG SPROW
This meme never quite took off, but it's ingenuity rivals that of BANE?
ye, it's pretty much 'Bane?' but much, much shallow.
baneposting is about whole multilayered scene, yagposting is just oneliner
>YAGSBANEO?
Any kino about pirates and piranhas?
Its been mentioned several times already but black sails is good and I think its good all the way through. It declines it quality. no doubt about it, but it doesnt go full retard and Flint, Silver and Jack make it worth staying until the end.
