Are there any memorable moments in the new SW films or am I too much of a jaded adult to notice them?

I'm re-watching the Phantom Menace and despite some shoddy CGI I'm having a great time.

this is about as good as it gets

The soundtrack and visuals were always good. The dialogue and story can get bad sometimes but it’s much better than FA and TLJ. RedLetterMedia is wrong on this one.

Why is he so wide?

The visuals in TLJ are the best in the series.

they are movies for kids, they're fun. it's why its hilarious people get upset about the stupid shit. i mean i get if you hate the politics and forced nigger and gook lib agendas but the rest of it like inconsistent lore or bad cgi is just stupid. it's a kids show.

refrigerator body

t. Skinny fat soyboy

>muh kiddie show
Even a kid show can have memorable moments you faggot.

there was the part where BB8 shot the coins at the security guards

peak male performance

All the movies are for kids, but the PT tries to add topical politics to the story.

No, the dialogue is fucking terrible.

The core of the story in the prequels is good or great.
>Anakin falling to the darkside due to his passions and fear of loss
>Obi-wan being thrust into a position he was never ready for
>The Jedi order being complete hypocrites about everything
>Sidious working both sides behind the scenes in a devious master plan

But the moment-to-moment writing is so fucking bad it hurts. Give that shit to a competent re-writer and the prequels would be loved.

I agree.

...

They tweaked the perspective a tiny bit on this shot and covered his face with his hair to make his body look even bigger.

Adam Driver is a /fit/ man but they had to make sure it translates to 50 foot tall Imax screens.

there are too many gay cunts on Sup Forums I can't go 5 minutes without seeing this picture.

I thought it was awesome when it came out, but I was 11.

The new films suck because I'm older and more cynical now.

He's literally being split in two by his confliction with the force.

I used to not really like the prequels.
but now that disney has raped star-wars I've started to love them in a the room/manos/birdemic kind of way

Not really.

And to be fair, the only memorable shot in all the prequels was Darth Maul when the doors open at the end.

The Anakin "I killed 'em all" scene was good I guess - certainly better than anything in the new films. As was the "Somebody should make them!" scene. Multiple Oscar winners involved in the new films and they haven't even managed to give Kylo something on that level yet.

The dialogue is awful in the prequels and the CG for the most part looks very aged. The effects in the two sequels are objectively much better

>visuals were always good
come on, friendo. the clone troopers look about as cartoonish as they do in the clone wars cartoon.

>the visuals in TLJ were great
>best visuals in star wars
>amazing effects

Look you stupid fucking plebs. EVERY movie has good visuals now. This isn't anything special or different, unless you make it special or different to enhance the story. Nice effects and good CGI isn't the mark of a good film like it used to be, it's only the mark of a big budget.

That being said, I didn't TLJ to look that great. Half the move is spent in space and amongst ships which are ultra generic and boring. The casino planet was ugly (contrary to the characters telling us it was beautiful) and none of the CGI aliens actually at the casino looked good.

Rouge One ending.

That's about it.

The effects in Rogue One blow the shit out of TFA and TLJ. I love the sense of scale that movie has. It felt more epic at times than anything in the sequels.

That being said, I didn't find TLJ to look good at all. Half the move is spent in space and amongst ships which are ultra generic. The casino planet was ugly and poorly lit (contrary to the characters telling us it was beautiful) and none of the CGI aliens or humans actually at the casino looked good. Considering how infamous Star Wars is for costumes, this would have been a good chance to show off some interesting garb, but just like the rest of the film, they refused to do anything interesting. The animals (porgs, crystal fox, horses) all looked like cartoons because they were designed like cartoons with big eyes and no crude features. The island looked like a nice island but we never get to explore it. The throne room was very vivid, but again, we don't get to take it in at all. Red dust was only put there so they good have a cool footprint shot with Kylo. Stupid.

You know what the OT had? A lot of planet establishing shots. Made the universe feel, you know, like a universe. NuWars might as well take place in a diorama.

I only saw Force Awakens when it premiered and what I remember is
>Kylo stopping a blaster shot
>tentacle monster from my japanese animes
>TRAITOR
>Han using bowcaster
>Phasma getting tossed in the trash
>lightsaber fight in the snow

What did he mean by this?

Sorry!

That's basically it, and death star 2.0

I liked this but 1/2 ironically because it was so ridiculous yet reminded me of dance numbers in old MGM musicals.

“I killed them all” is my favorite scene of AotC. Anything that shows Anakin cracking usually does a great job to begin with, the Clone Wars show had a lot of these moments of foreshadowing.

It's funny you say this. Anytime I talk about the prequels, I feel like I am describing a much better movie than I remember. But when I watch it, it doesn't hold up.

Very sad it was executed so poorly, it had all the right stuff underneath it.

3.0

I was just listing things I remembered that I enjoyed. Star Killer Base was dumb as fuck

>Rebel bomber designs continue to suck.
>Cruiser hyper-ram
>Rey's mirror trip
>"He is activating his lightsaber to kill his true enemy"
>"Get this flyboy of my bridge"
>"those books contained nothing that she doesn't possess" (because she literally has them and I'm burning down this tree to fuck with you)

It reminded me of Justice League when they had to pull the cube apart and it made a big shockwave that knocked everyone down

Reminds me of the Anakin and Obiwan force push-off in RotS.

Agreed, I can't wait for in episode 9, the death star solar system

a Death Sun like some kind of Dyson Sphere

It has well shot scenes. The cgi is actually pretty off in some scenes. It's like the reverse of a Marvel film where the cgi is good but the editing and cinemetography is shit.

Why didn't Obi Wan use the force speed like in the beginning of the movie to catch up to Qui Gon and Darth Maul? Even as a kid this baffled me.

>NuWars might as well take place in a diorama.

This is true. There's no context, visually or storywise in TFA & TLJ. We know almost nothing about what the rest of the galaxy is doing, what influence the First Order has or how they managed to build Starkiller or why no one seems to be interested in helping the Resistance. We are asked to imagine what's going on off-stage with next to no clues.

That scene shows how Anakin can recover far faster than other Jedi.

It's a bad copy of Slave I

Here is another one for you

A lot of it has to do with the soundtrack. There isn't a single memorable note of music in anything Disney made. It's all just bland and regurtitated; hell, the MOST interesting music between TFA TLJ and RO was the trailer music to TFA. But even that was just a remix of an old theme meant to evoke nostalgia.

The music has always been absolutely integral to these movies. Case in point:

youtube.com/watch?v=ixjd_GvNRu8
youtube.com/watch?v=-bzWSJG93P8
youtube.com/watch?v=JaPf-MRKITg
youtube.com/watch?v=8H26Hdv3i0U

Hell, even a bit from the Clone Wars
youtube.com/watch?v=jWQV2U4o0kg

And going even further, from ToR
youtube.com/watch?v=eBnCcC_rEdk

The music of Star Wars has this sweeping kind of grandeur that is completely lacking from anything in the new movies. Seeing the trend, this isn't going to improve--the musical direction of TFA TLJ and RO sound like they came from some fucking Marvel movie.

my sides have entered hyperspace, this may be TLJ's "I don't like sand" moment

I feel like Phantom Menace had the best visuals of the prequels. The muted colors gave it a bit of a dirtier look like in the OT. With the exception of Jar Jar, the CGI wasn't terrible, especially for the time. Doesn't change the fact that it's a terrible movie, though.

p-put on a cowl baka!

Disney makes good music, just not for Star Wars. Their songs from animated films are very memorable.

"jaded adult"
enjoys the phantom menace*
yeah ok usa

The entire droid vs gungan fight looks terrible

Lucas should've let Kershner direct the prequels. They would've been masterpieces.

>Disney makes good music, just not for Star Wars

They used to. Moana and Frozen had some popular songs in them, I'd even go so far as to say they were good. But Disney's changed a great deal as a company over the years, and it's reflected in the shit they put out.

But the point I was trying to make is that Star Wars was always complimented by the music; even the Phantom Menace, while being the worst in the first two trilogies, gave us the best fight scene with the best music to accompany it. Disney can't even get that right.

he was literally senile by the time aotc came out

I liked anakin vs obi wan better.

Man, the entire last chunk of 3 always gives me goose bumps and makes me emotional, say what you will about the actual performances and what not but the basic plot its self of the prequels and how it relates to the OT is crazy good. I really wish anikin was written better on a moment to moment basis because if he was that finale probably would have been one of my favorite pieces of cinema

What was the purpose (besides separating Obi from Qui-Gon) of this red light force fields?

The ideas are there, but the execution is terrible. There are much better films with similar themes.
