STEVE GERBER'S A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET

STORYTIME

Did you know that back in the 80s Steve Gerber wrote a comic based on A Nightmare on Elm Street? And that it got cancelled after just 2 issues due to retailers complaining that they couldn't carry something so violent?

Well now you know. And knowing is h- ... I mean, and now we're gonna read it.

Also, isn't it kind of weird how slasher characters have translated to comics so poorly? The Jason and Chucky comics are almost universally shit and, this excluded, the Freddy Krueger comics are mostly even worse. Does anyone know of any other exceptions?

Anyway, let's get to it.

This is...

Freddy Krueger's A Nightmare on Elm Street #1-2

Well, they are staying true to source material with people putting themselves in stupid situations.

Why does comic art suck so much now? There is no one in comics today that could draw this. Is it really all because of Jim Lee?

It seems much darker now in this context.

I have heard that there are some good Hellraiser comics out there.

Isn't there a Marshal Law vs. Pinhead crossover?

Yes, but I hear it wasn't very good.

I'd say Rob and Todd are just as much to blame but yeah old guys were influenced by the better golden age artists or just had a more serious illustration background.

The Epic, yeah.

Not sure about the Boom ones.

Alex Ross could draw it.
