is the resistance supposed to be communists or freedom fighting liberals, like the rebels were? I think it's the former because of the equity scenes in TLJ, but if that is the case, why didn't they a incorporate some cool soviet visual aesthetics or something, that would have been better than just being the rebels 2.0, but not capable of any of the same things they were.

What I loved about the previous SW films was the historical parallels, something these films just completely lack. they just rehash old ideas.

It's pretty clear the first order are some type of integral nationalist fascist group, but really, what's the difference between them and the imperial empire? the fact pic related needs to explain the difference is proof enough that these movies can't decide if they want to create a new setting, or just play it safe, and reuse the same ideas in a new way, so they meet in the middle in the worst of ways

LET THE PAST DIE

The resistance is no political party user.
The resistance simply stands for GOOD.

Star Wars would never claim the good side to be left or right!

The Resistance is transparent nostalgiabait for fanboys that want to relieve what they felt when they watched the first trilogy

>This is not going to go the way you think

the Rebellion was about overthrowing the Empire in order to restore the Republic. after the Battle of Endor it transitioned into New Republic and continued fighting with the Empire until its formal surrender.

the Resistance was formed by Leia in order to oppose the First Order when years later, the New Republic was to passive to do anything about its increasing threat.

They're either anarcho-syndicalists or space jihadis, depending on the time of day.

The one cool thing about the First Order is that they emphasized their space Neo-Nazi theme by making their logo the logo of the Tempelhofgesellschaft. Probably one of the only examples of visual historical references in the sequels, when the OT was full of stuff like the TIE fighter noise being a Stuka siren or the turrets on the Death Star being modeled after battleship turrets to draw parallels to Pacific Theatre bombing runs.

Nothing in these movies is for fanboys, their core demographic are "geeks" who watched the originals in 2009.

the resistance makes nonsense what exactly are they resistance , are they resistance the new Republic

>Nothing in these movies is for fanboys, their core demographic are "geeks" who watched the originals in 2009.
>implying

The "core demographic" is geeks that think the prequels are shit but the original trilogy is the height of cinema - not prequel fanboys that wanted a repeated of A Phantom Menace

The New Order Tie Fighter is one of the few nu wars designs that I like. They're no longer the government, but a paramilitary organization, so they take old tech and paint it to look more imposing and edgy.

They missed a good opportunity by not making New Order uniforms obviously cheap and shitty, and giving officers a bunch of meaningless medals and such.

The Rebel Alliance is definitely closest to the American revolutionaries in that their fighting for unspecified freedoms rather than rebelling over a poor economy or corruption or religious or ethnic causes. They’re the undisputed good guys who wouldn’t be plagued with internal coups or a return to authoritarianism after winning the war. Meanwhile, the Empire is the British Empire mixed with Nazi Germany. This is ignoring all the EU crap.

I keep calling the First Order the New Order because the lore is all dumb and nonsense*

>They’re the undisputed good guys who wouldn’t be plagued with internal coups or a return to authoritarianism after winning the war.
Except thanks to Disney this is exactly what happened, completely ruining the whole point.

so they're like military anti communists?

lmao, Lucas said that Star wars was an analogy for the Vietnam War. The rebels are the Vietnamese and the Empire is America.

Sup Forumscucks on suicide watch.

that makes zero sense

>The "core demographic" is geeks that think the prequels are shit but the original trilogy is the height of cinema
>shit all over OT and tell the audience it doesn't matter anymore

hmmmm, really activating my almonds here

I meant a return to authoritarianism by the leaders of the revolution themselves. Like what happened in France or South America. The First Order is a threat from outside the Republic/Resistance.

How does it make no sense? Giaint military juggernaut with superior tech and manpower vs group of farmers with shitty old tech.

>Lucas, who did not serve in Vietnam due to his diabetes, wrote about the Star Wars project in 1973 and said the film would show: "A large technological empire going after a small group of freedom fighters."

So does this mean that Sup Forums hates the original trilogy now that he wrote a pro-communist/socialist film?

>Lucas said that Star wars was an analogy for the Vietnam War.
No he didn't. He said it reflected issues in America during the Vietnam war, particularly intergenerational conflict.

Keep dancing around this one, Sup Forums.

So, any human with taste?

>Sup Forums wants the star wars bad guys to be the nazis
retard

Not an argument.

...

Imagine being this much of a loser and spending money to get a flare of nostalgia from when you first saw the original trilogy

Fanboyism was a mistake

The First Order is a human white supremacist organisation.

This is a fact.

Sup Forums wants the star wars bad guys to be mentally ill teenagers who develop super powers.

So was the original empire. It's the easiest way to create a villain.

The Rebel Alliance: The Allies
The Empire: The Third Reich
The New Republic: Western liberal establishment
The First Order: Neofascist party
The Resistance: Antifa

yeah basically. maybe that's why I find it hard to care about the resistance.

Aren't Antifa anarchists though? The resistance doesn't want anarchy.

They're violent enforcers of the status quo and are supported by the establishment at the end of the day, acting like the underdogs when they really are the ones in power. That's where the comparison is strongest

that's really dumb
why it's not just the Republic?
what the fuck Resistance is? Like a voluntary military? what? so Republic doesn't even have own army? what?

they're not even the resistance anymore. the first order are the ones who resist.

The First order is definitely more fanatical, and they're a fragment of Sheev's glorious Empire, they have fewer ships, fewer men, and less territory. The Empire's stated goal was to bring order and stability through force, while the First Order's goals aren't very clear beyond wanting to destroy the New Republic and the Resistance.

The Resistance is just renamed rebel alliance, perhaps a reference to the pathetic "#resist" morons, or perhaps JJ and Rian are just fucking hacks who didn't want to reuse the perfectly good "Rebel" so they had to come up with a different R word for underdog.
Because they're fucking retards run by drooling brain-damaged incompetents, just look at who they let command warships! "Oh hey we just decapitated this massive military dictatorship who's primary strength was obtained through martial power, let's sign some space papers that we all pwomise to disarm and just get along!"

The New Republic were retards and didn't deserve to exist as a governing body.

so the first order are actually the good guys?

Reminder that the empire was just totalitarian, there was no ideology, they were nationalising commerce in the central planets in anh

>. The Empire's stated goal was to bring order and stability through force,
and these are the bad guys?

Well they did kind of mass murder civilians once or twice or a lot of times if you take legends into account. Sheev didn't want to be Emperor of a garbage fire. Honestly he did nuffin wrong, Alderan probably shot first.

>The Resistance is just renamed rebel alliance, perhaps a reference to the pathetic "#resist" morons
Probably a case of life imitating art, TFA was conceptualised and created from 2012-2014 and came out in 2015, Trump was elected at the end of 2016

That's annoying

>a fucking asterisk

>they have fewer ships, fewer men, and less territory
yet they somehow have the resources to turn an entire planet into a weapon that’s powered by stars and to build a ship that’s 62 kilometers wide

I always thought that Empire is supposed to be CCCP as Regan said

Also in deleted scene with Biggs there is a line that farmers going to be nationalized

The one with red marking is supposed to be a special forces variant, I find it pretty boring that they only have 2 types of starfighters which basically look exactly the same

Disney are cheap bastards, they are just painting old models and trying to sell them as new

The Tie fighter noise is from cars on the highway heard through a tube
