Why did the humor and comedic tone work so well in this one?

Why did the humor and comedic tone work so well in this one?

Maybe it wasn't forced humor like in AoU, but still it had that Marvel's flair of cringyness

Because when you take two of the most boring mcu characters any semblance of personality looks good on them, the comedy was actually not much better than tlj

It didn't.

Taika Waititi.

DUBS

SAMEFAGS BTFO

Because the first two Thors were so horribly boring that a change was welcomed.

it didn't. i hate how all disney movies are written these days.

Dubs of truth.

I haven't seen the movie, but that poster is really good.

Taika Waititi is actually a funny and creative person.

Chris Hemsworth is actually a good comedian, apparently.

It was a throwaway Thor movie and Marvel’s solution to visionless properties is to just “make it like gotg”

He isn't

Loki can be a lot of fun when you let him be a mischievous little shit

Go back to your Star Wars screaming threads

its the natural build of characters we know from previous movies who end up in stupid places doing weird things
and then they joke about it
and weird aliens/beings they encounter provide more laughter and possible quips
and it somehow works, nothing really feels forced
you have two brothers doing jests and brotherly comedy
you have odd aliens that basically can be considered jokes doing their shit on the sidelines that don't really disturb the flow of the movie
the movie doesn't take itself seriously, nor do the main chars, after all they are pretty much gods so whatever happens, happens

Which in a twisted way probably makes it a quite funny version of old Norse sagas. They had weird and somewhat funny stuff happening. Gods did stupid stuff and pranked each other and comedic results ensued.
And then drunk Northmen would share these stories about stupid gods doing stupid shit and laughing at it after a day of plundering, getting wasted around a campfire.

Thor Ragnarok is probably the first capeshitflick that can be classified as "comedy", and it somehow works.

Good say comfy user.
It also works well as a comedy because the audience is given good action scenes and drama that enrich the experience. This makes the comedy more entertaining because the rest of the movie isn't bland.

Pretty much my thoughts as well. The movies biggest weakness is tying it to yet another "bad guy does thing, we have to stop the bad guy" plotline that we've already seen a billion times. If it was just Hulk and Thor fucking around on an alien planet, it would have been much better.
