I've been meaning to get into historical epics. What are some movies, Sup Forums?

Braveheart for Longshanks. better villain desu

Troy is good.

the patriot

Braveheart. Seems more historically accurate.

Hahahahaha no

wouldn't particularly use historically accurate and Braveheart in same sentence desu. COuld do a BIG list

gladiator like how is this even a contest

Lawrence of Arabia is the epic to end all epics, IMO. Other good ones:

Ben-Hur
Zulu
Master & Commander
Birth of a Nation (the Griffith one, obviously)

Gladiator was better because Maxmus Decimus Meridius was more humble than Wallace.

Longshanks and Wallace never come face to face. Just on that Gladiator has a better villain

lawrence of arabia
troy (director's cut)
alexander (final director's cut for really real this time)

Remember how the battle of Sterling bridge had no bridge ?

that is hardly a criticism, besides Commodus was portrayed stupidly in the film. Longshanks was done by a better actor and actually had depth

He was played by a better actor but depth? No. It's very much a stereotypical evil

Braveheart had motherfucking Patrick McGoohan.... but Gladiator had this, which is among the most badass scenes ever filmed:

It's pretty close but Gladiator just pips Braveheart because of the unbelievably unlikely romance between a filthy highlander and a French princess, Gladiator's plot hole just involves the incredibly unlikely fight with the emperor and the fact that he wasn't crucified, stoned and burned at the stake, then given a good flogging once he was identified. The Romans were pretty strict on punishment.

that's a laugh, Mel Gibson and historical accuracy don't go well together.

Remember when King Edward died in his bed during Wallace's execution, and also dying on his way to battle Robert The Bruce years later?

Braveheart has Longshanks throwing a fag out of a window, gladiator does not.

kingdom of heaven
gladiator. its still historically inaccurate, but not as historically inaccurate as braveheart.

Braveheart.

gladiator had better everything
but braveheart was more fun

Barry Lyndon

Hard choice. Braveheart has BASED Irish guy, but Gladiator has BASED german guy....prolly take Braveheart because pic related is one of my fav actors and he was the best in the film. Not saying Gladiators bad, it's awesome, but Braveheart definately beats it on superior supporting characters.

What did you think of him in Equilibrium?

Felt he was doing the best he could with poor writing.

Gladiator is a modern epic-blockbuster but feels very old-fashioned so it has the higher ground for me

Gladiator easily
