Who cares about Forbes?

>ITT people selectively show stats with no context

>when you're so buttblasted about a movie that you obsess over its finances because you desperately want it to fail

Star Wars fans are truly the worst

>spend over $4 billion buying the franchise
>then spend another half billion making and marketing each of them
>and still don't recoup those losses
>while people literally hate the newest one to the point the only records it breaking is the negative ones
Try harder DIDF.

Sorry to say, though, they simply will not stop making them.

You get Star Wars every Christmas for the rest of your life.

If Disney sees diminishing returns they'll almost certainly heavily retool their approach. Really, a big mistake on their part was assuming they could release a movie every year. Star Wars movies used to be an event, a somewhat rare occurrence, which helped drive up the box office. If they become routine the profit margins are going to wear down even if the movies are good.

Here's your context

>Sorry to say, though,
that you don't understand how a business works

Disney's retooling will simply be to bank on them making less profit.

The budget was 200mil, the marketing budget was probably another 400mil. It's currently at 725mil. That's 125mil profit (assuming the marketing costs are what I guessed).

If they expected the movie to make 700mil, they're up 25mil. If they expected 1bil, then they're down 275mil. If this trend continues, they will simply bank on them making less money and start cutting out other non-IP movies that they think might be losers. Standard Hollywood creative accounting.

I agree that they are oversaturating the market but that won't stop them from making Star Wars movies. It will just stop them from taking risks on other movies like a Blade Runner 2049.

>tanking all over the world
>Jumanji beating a Star Wars movie in its second weekend across most countries ww
>China presales lower than Dunkirk

*Inhales*

Still, number 1? Is that domestic only?

If anything, it suggests that the long-term trend of fewer people going to the movies is continuing.

Personally, I haven't even seen it. I'll wait until it's in the bargain bin and pick it up for 3 bucks.

That's a disaster all right

>Forbes
Is it just me or are they really butthurt about TLJ. They haven't stopped shitting on it since it came out.

I know it's no the best movie ever made but they seem to have some personal vendetta against it

Hi Disney

Forbes (the website, not the magazine) will host literally anything short of pornography. Any review listicle churned out by a starving English lit major gets slapped up there.

Star Wars Nerds who don't like it are writing articles to be hosted there.

Of course, since you're reading it, you may want to update your anti-malware software.

out of curiosity, what's the biggest weekend drop ?

>$.02 cents have been deposited to your banking account

They are just reporting the numbers

They swing both ways with sensationalist sounding but factual headlines.
I remember reading somewhere that their daily updates on Wonder Woman's box office run got them crazy clicks

They are just milking the interest

There's no way its marketing budget was $400m. BvS had one of the biggest marketing campaigns ever and it was $150 -160 million

Wonder Woman is basically the polar opposite of The Last Jedi: it stuck around forever and just kept racking up money because it had such good word of mouth.

It's really such a shame.

Would it really have cost them so much to have a white guy be a hero? Would it really have cost them so much to not have the movie stuffed with women and faggots and niggers? Women and faggots and niggers don't watch Star Wars anyway. It's not like they'll start now, not with this piece of shit movie or the last one.

Yeah but they're harping on them. I've seen like 5 or 6 different articles about how poor the movie is doing both financially and critically.

I understand the need to report but it just seems like overkill at this point, which makes me wonder if they have some sort of agenda against Disney or are desperate for clicks

...

>my family wants to go see this in an hour
>that’s going to be 8 tickets = $80 for The Mouse

How can I stop this from happening?

then the profit is in the hundreds of millions already

>Wonder Woman is basically the polar opposite of The Last Jedi: it didn't suck
here ftfy

I suppose you could defend it by saying that this is a highly unusual and somewhat worrying occurrence. I mean, it's Star Wars. Star Wars movies have been box office gold since A New Hope came out in 1977. Even the prequels, despite being disliked, made bank. Signs that the new movie may be underperforming have to be worrying to anyone in the business of film.

We can estimate from TFA and R1 that TLJ was at least the same for marketing as Disney spent on R1.

I know Sup Forums wants this to fail so bad but it had the second biggest Christmas ever and beat Jumanji so I think it's making a comeback, could make more than Rogue One and so I think they'll make more with no regrets. Might as well accept it.

I just accepted that Star Wars is back to being something for 25 years old and under and that's okay.

It's the clicks I guess but if your job is to talk about the box office, a Star Wars episodic movie having the worst second weekend drop ever is something you need to write about. This is the box office equivalent of the Hindenburg, they have to write about it. You should be asking yourself why nobody else is doing it

OH NO NO NO NO

>Jumanji beating a Star Wars movie in its second weekend across most countries ww
>China presales lower than Dunkirk
Source?

Steal the keys stupid.

Record breaking Star Wars movie. Worst holds of the entire franchise.

set your house on fire

How hard do you think they're going to go after people who torrent the movie in a few months, instead of going to the cinema now?

They're going to be massively butthurt about all the money the movie could have made, but didn't

Doesn't really look like a collapse on that chart. Looks pretty much in-line, just a little bit lower.

The gray line was 15 years ago, so that's a different era.

Get a better chart. This one will just encourage Disney to add even more diversity.

You are blind. Factoring and adjusting for inflation, TLJ isn't even going to break Episode I's numbers at the box office.

Spoil the movie and convince em its shit.

Expectations Vs reality
Age of Ultron grossing $100m less than the first movie led to a major shakeup of the MCU
This is going to finish up 100s of millions under estimate and tank merch sales because the ones that hate it are the fans who buy that crap

Also domestic is just half the picture. It's dropping like a sack of cement in pretty much every other country not called America

Just watch Jumanji you Jew

The rest of the world

That's the point, it has worse legs than any other Star Wars movie. That's why people are saying it's underpeforming.

“Accidentally” order tickets for another movie playing at the same time and let them go see mouse wars instead. Doesn’t matter if they see it, only if (((Disney))) gets the ticket sales.

Just accept your fate, nephew.

>I want to sink Star Wars
>I'll watch Jumanji instead

>The girl I've been texting ghosted me
>I'll cut off my dick so now no women will ever get to have sex with me

>That'll learn 'em

Hilarious mental gymnastics and pathetically obvious spin.

It’s at just under $800 Million after just 8 days, with four weeks left in its theatrical run.

Sup Forums is utterly destroyed once again.

In before...
>buh buh buh dey spent billions on advertising!
>buh buh buh it needs to make thirty billion to break even! Some kid in my junior high class told me so!
>buh buh buh my bot manipulated RT user scores!

Sup Forums is always wrong.

I'm not sure if these posts like these are shills, b8 or serious.
Either, clearly they have no idea how business work and have never held a real job.

Biggest drop in the history of Hollywood son

>Four weeks left
Disney movies always have very long theater runs, usually over 130 days

Ha Star Wars bombed.

youtu.be/RbNiV7GawqM

Are you so retarded you think the Chinks are going to save TLJ's abysmal numbers?

Oh fuck off. The Last Jedi is the first good Star Wars movie in 30 years.

Lots of pacing issues and plot holes, plus character inconsistencies between various points in their character arcs, keep it from being great. I'm pretty sure you can cut the entire Canto Bight arc from the film and it'd be not only better, but no more confusing for the omission.

But it's still a really good film. The music and visuals are great, probably because this is the first Star Wars by an actually skilled director since George replaced all the talented people who worked on the OT. The core emotional arc between Rey, Kylo, and Luke works really well and everyone involved gives great performances. The action is really fun when it counts, like the opening with Poe or Luke's short but sweet duel with Kylo, despite the pacing dragging a lot during the second act.

Overall, I rate 86/100 - better than anything *since* the OT, but weighed down by too many plot and pacing problems to be on the level of the originals.

How did this happen? You could slap a Star Wars logo on anything and make money had over fist. How did a company as big as Disney fuck up their golden child in 2 years?

I honestly don't know, it's hold worse than Rogue One, and people are still trying to spin this as "good."
Disney has somehow manged to really damage the brand, and we won't see the real damage until IX's box office.

R1 is justified by being a spin-off. TLJ is literally a numbered entry following up TFA. Disney is retarded, the public does not want constant MCU tier yearly Star Wars movies and this will poison Episode 9 for certain.

Kathleen Kennedy

...

>Four weeks left
He's referring to the fact that Disney mandated that theatres in the US must show the movie in their largest auditorium for at least 4 weeks. And 66% of the money earned from ticket sales

Given that the movie isn't really pulling in big audiences, this is probably going to fuck theatres over. As they have to continue to show this TLJ, when they could be screening other movies that might have the ability to draw bigger audiences towards the end of that 4 weeks.

>Star Wars is back, I bet you're feeling nostalgic!
>Han Solo, Luke Skywalker and Admiral Ackbar are all dead and you're sexist if this bothers you!

Bringing back a series an entire generation grew up with and then killing it in front of their eyes and telling them that it isn't for them any more isn't a good idea.

What's with the weird random jumps with phantom menace and atttack of the clones?

But yeah, things aren't looking good. All other movies see a jump on the final day in chart except TLJ. Still expect film to cross billion mark, but won't climb high. Not looking good for future of franchise.

>66%
Its 70%, user.

>The women who ruined "Star Wars"

People with an interest in business trends?

...

70% drop? Goddamn.

And I'm guessing you still unironically get your news from HuffPo, right?

Revenge has it too, and it's because the movies came out on Wensday, it's the weekend bump.
TFA, TLJ and RO have it too, but they day before, but only TFA is noticeable. The Last Jedi's bump is hilarious small though. Gotta squint to see it.

This film is a disaster for Disney.

>Yeah but they're harping on them. I've seen like 5 or 6 different articles about how poor the movie is doing both financially and critically.
Thats because the movie IS doing poor financially and critically, which is a major thing for the movie industry and Disney

Spoil the entire movie for them
or just fly into an autistic rage like Kylo in 7

I'll help you interpret that number, user: The decline on the first weekend is probably due to a few people turned off by the VII or just generalSW fatigue or being less motivated by the 2nd movie in a trilogy.
The drop weekend-to-weekend, however, is a direct reflection of the relative merits of the movie itself in the eyes of the initial viewers and their mouth-to-mouth propaganda.
They are truly troublesome numbers.

if it was just mediocre and pandering to the fanbase (prequel or sequel) it would have been fine
if it was not pandering but somewhat competent it would have been fine
instead it's mediocre and insulting to the fans AND SJW in a very obnoxious way

This keeps getting posted/spammed are you the same person? Or you having no original thoughts of your own?

>second weekend drop in history

What's the first?

Pic kinda semi unironically
Real talk though, its because they have a writing team and directors and such who haven't grown up with Star Wars and don't really understand what Star Wars is and what it means to the fans. It isn't just something you can turn into an annual franchise, and that coupled with some people who care more about the message that they spread with the movie rather than the movie itself, and you have the greatest movie franchise in history ruined in only 2 movies.

I wish she was as hungry to write a fucking coherent plot as she was hungry to stuff tokens in

>"Water is wet," says Forbes

Batman vs Superman

- r. johnson

TLJ is first. It's the largest drop of gross between the first and 2nd weekend of its theatrical run. As in, the movie dropped 150 million on the 2nd weekend compared to the first.

>"I was very hungry" she said

...

OC I just made.

NOO NOOOO NOOOOOOOOOOO I'M IN CHARGE HERE!

archive.4plebs.org/tv/search/text/30 years star wars last jedi canto/

TLJ is, it made 150 million less than the first weekend. This is the Titanic of movies

Remember when people made fun of the prequels for having fake space politics in them? Well congratulations because now we have real politics in them.

Murder them and make it look like an accident. There, I saved you $80

Disney: There are only 2 angry fans

They're going to blame it all on interweb piracy and fund a new division to sue downloaders for 10-40$ to boost their sales

Good. I hope they sack Rian from the new trilogy. It would be awesome if that hack Kennedy was fired too.

Since ROTJ I've seen every Star Wars film 3 times in the cinema. Even Ep2 was good enough to immerse myself in Star Wars on repeat viewings. I hated TLJ and have on interest in seeing it again. Articles online can act like hardcore fans don't matter to the series moving forward, but we're the only viewers who will see it more than once. Giving the middle finger to all of the plot points in VII and destroying a beloved character will kind of kill a fans want to see it again.

this

Who knew rehashing a beloved franchise where the only new things you do is insert a series of Mary sue characters and token nigger leads who can't act, whilst simultaneously killing off the franchise's iconic heroes could possibly backfire??

Plus, it wasn't any good. People keep glossing over that.
