Lucasfilm is run by Kathleen Kennedy, with minimal input from Disney proper. Marvel Studios is run by Kevin Feige, also with minimal input from Disney proper. Lucasfilm has been plagued by numerous fuckups in the last year and a half, from fired directors to scandals with actors and actresses to massive reshoots to huge budget overshoots. That's even before the massive fan backlash to The Last Jedi. Meanwhile, Marvel Studios is an extremely well-oiled machine, and while they don't exactly put out great art, at the very least they seem to be able to turn out their movies on top and on budget, to fairly stable popular acclaim.

What went wrong? Or, on the flip side, what went right?

The force is female

Feige was already in charge of the MCU before Disney bought marvel. Same with pixar. Disney just didn't have the time to fuck those things up.

Feige is a literal nerd who grew up in the 80s pop culture kino era who through sheer luck and determination got to where he is. Kathleen rose through the ranks by the casting couch, who upon reaching a certain age and status, became an ice cold corporate bitch to keep herself in power and to push the whore she used to be out of her mind.

/thread

Kevin Feige is a man and his sole interest is making as much money as possible
Kathleen Kennedy is a woman and is only interested in using Star Wars as a way to push her views

Kathleen thought Kev's success was due to being "allowed" to control a franchise that prints money. She figured that this was what producers in hollywood did when they'd "made it"; take huge franchises, make sure they continue to release films, insert their political/social opinions, and then take the praise for the work of the directors they hire.
This is what happens when you let a blind feminist control a billion dollar franchise. It's nothing to do with her being female either. There's a reason Whedon was let go the second he fucked up with Age of Ultron and then backtracked on doing a director's cut out of laziness. And Whedon was a competent director, even if a complete hack with no vision.
Compare that to Trank.

She literally has no idea what her job's supposed to be other than to make star wars. So we get things like the Han Solo film where she doesn't pay attention to the script, or tone, or even watch the dailies. We get the ep.9 director fired because he was "being difficult" with the Book of Henry used as an excuse. It's simple, she's unqualified for her job.

so much talent in one pic

Marvel hasn't made a single female superhero focused movie out of 17 MCU movies. They have more success.

Feige would NEVER have approved a script with as many glaring problems as The Last Jedi
Seems like Kennedy is comparatively incompetent for greenlighting that shitpile

...

WB make one and it becomes the highest grossing superhero origin film of all time.
Really makes you think

>"Hey Kathy I wanna kill Luke!"
>"What a brilliant idea! Here's $200, have fun! Also, one of your leads has to be a fat Asian chick. And also you need a purple haired badass female admiral who everyone loves!"
>"No probs"
How I imagine it went down

Men>Women

WB had the most recognizable and well known female superhero of all time.

Marvel has no female superheroes capable of carrying a movie that are not tied up in the licenses that other companies own like X-Men.

No female superhero movie is better than a bad one.

A Star Wars film with a screenplay like a Marvel movie would be considered a piece of shit. Which is why TLJ is considered a piece of shit.

I really don't understand enough about the business to have a worthwhile opinion.

However, her career seems to have been built upon Spielberg movies. Now that she's not working with him she seems to be hit and miss.

Or you could say the feige genuinely likes sci-fi, action, and superhero stories. It was his idea to bring the gotg into the mcu, even when his 3 to 4 coproducers told him a talking raccoon and tree were stupid ideas he still made them make it. Even as as young low tier producer, he personally got the hair person to make wolverine's hair how it looks in the comics. He's knows his audience and what they want but he also knows he has to do sjw shit so he does that only to c and d list characters. Whereas Kathleen makes her a list characters sjw infected.

Feige had they’ve movies already in plan with overarching story structure and he stayed true to the source material, adapting popular storylines and staying true to the characters fiction. Also, real world politics are at a bare minimum to the quips and super hero fighting action.

Kennedy didn’t even have the time to plan out the main trilogy let alone the care about the source material or fan perseption. Things fans loved were thrown out for real world leftist pandering rather then an overarching plot and a suitable story.

For all it’s faults marvel movies are marvel and feel like the brand. Star Wars doesn’t and is full of nepotism.

Should've given it to based Filoni.

Marvel doesn't have any female characters on the level of Wonder Woman.

Is DC also run by a woman?

no way that downy looking bitch enjoyed star wars as a child, there's no passion at all showing through TLJ

Mcu movies don't have multiple insane plot holes and hardcore sjw propaganda. Feige would also have the sense to not put a phone prank w a momma joke in a fucking starwars film with nonhumans from another galaxy.

The Last Jedi is on track to make over a billion dollars. The only blacklash are from alt right snowflakes that are upset by the prominent roles given to women and minorities. They didn't even watch the goddamn movie. They just saw women and blacks and asians and bitched online.

Kevin fag lmao

marvel doesnt have any characters on the level of DC characters except spiderman

>Started out as PA to Richard Donner
>Eventually tapped by his wife, Lauren Shuler Donner, to be comic book guy starting with X-men movies
>Continued in this role for all Marvel movies, although he was still small fry
>Noticed that Marvel had full control of the classic Avengers team and convinced Perlmutter and Avi Arad to get $10 billion in financing to try something crazy
>Avi Arad stays at Sony because he wasn't going to be in charge of Marvel Studios
>Was planning to just do a bunch of standalone movies until the Nick Fury teaser set fanboys nuts
>Went full speed ahead with Avengers plan
>Disney buyout
>Billion dollar franchise starts in 2012
>Have to constantly readjust because Perlmutter is a cheap Jew and and creative process made directors mad
>Got so sick of it, he pushed for full control or was going to walk
>Now full speed ahead giving his directors freedom and money

The only offset scandals were Edward Norton's desire for control and Edgar Wright faffing about for 8 years, things are pretty good. The most egregious mistakes were Thor 2 and AoU, with the former just being a complete shitshow on set and turned into one of the most boring movies ever. The latter was bad enough he had to push Whedon out.

What SJW stuff was in the Marvel films? Obviously the comics division was out of control - to the point the EIC was fired and replaced with a redpilled Chad - but the movies? What are you referring to exactly?

There are women and POC. Sup Forums hates both those things so it's SJW shit and I am from rebbit for saying so.

What the fuck is wrong with woman. I think a woman POV is invaluable because they see things in ways men can't so them having their say is a good thing buy dear God the moment they get any power they just want all woman. God fucking damn.

Mostly racebending the supporting cast, as seen in Spider-man Homecoming and Valkyrie in Thor 3. But it seems Feige will never cross the line into racebending the main hero. He is not that dumb.

The last movie made 1.7 billion easy and is now at 2 billion. If TLJ dosent reach near 2 billion (1.7-1.8) than it is an comparative failure.
Hopefully they wont make it seeing as Lucasfilm needs a shakeup

How fucking cocky do you think he got when GOTG blew up. God damn you will never feel that much dominance over your adversaries in your life.

Marvel films are equally shitty though.
They are just still successful with viewers and critics.

Feige seems to be perfectly aware of just what he can get away with, and what he can't. He's able to hit that magic sweet spot of mass appeal.

I find it strange. Marvel films are no art but at least the script is competently written. When watching TLJ I felt like they had NO idea what they were doing, the script is a mess. I felt flashes of George Lucas in the prequels with the script. It's like it didn't even have an editor. You would never see a script this bad in a Marvel film; would Marvel ever have an entire subplot of the movie (the casino) be absolutely worthless in every way to the story? Would they have the story set up a theme (Kylo saying to ditch the old way of doing things) and then totally abandon that theme and nothing really changes after all?

Kennedy fell for the feminist meme and is sacrificing story for her feminist agenda. also fell for the Plinkett meme which is how TFA was born.

Black Iron Man (forgot his name). Black Widow being pushed on us. That scene where cap and iron man are arguing and she says "I work with children" as if men are always fucking childish morons.

heh. any bets on black panther?

Asgardians are multiracial. Blond blue eyed Valkyrie is black/latina. MJ might be mary jane. Slaves built the washington monument. Agent 13 gives cap's most well known comic speech in civil war. Really nothing outside of the recasting c to d listers and a handful of dialogue.

There is no plan over there at Lucasfilm. They rushed to make a trilogy without knowing where exactly they wanted to go. They also do not do screen testing early enough in the production cycle to change the movie as needed. They seem to do it way late, where it would require around the clock editing to make it on time.

they're hit and miss, and they make so many that there's always something for someone

Settle down, Virgin. It’s Christmas, relax

>Valkyrie in Thor 3
Is it really race-bending when they clearly show Brynhildr in the flashback where all the Valkyries die?

It's just bizarre, you would figure a series made with so much focus testing and big committees would actually be more competent than this.

Black iron man and black widow are b and c listers who were originally like that. They aren't even close to being the main characters in any mcu movie. All the sjw sw characters are the main characters.

By-the-numbers plot. People will walk out talking about the visual spectacle of seeing Black Panther action scenes and Wakanda's design. It will do fine domestically. Probably not very strong overseas. It may just scrape by $700 million because black people are going to want to see this, if we go by social media.

>Black Iron Man (forgot his name)
This character has existed since 1979

Feige has the good sense to not abandon all the comic stories that are readily available for the taking. Under his watch, writers take a look at what's available, both story- and character-wise and sort out what worked and which stories left a positive impression on people, then they take it and change around what's necessary to bring it to the big screen. They can rely on which comic runs gained decent popularity ans which didn't work at all. It's a good safety net for franchises that sink hundreds of millions into single movies. Success becomes planable to a degree.

Now on to Kennedy. I won't even go into the hamfisted approach to court the female demographic. SW under Kennedy started off by declaring the EU as non-canon, which was a good move, since it has become a continuity clusterfuck over the years. Then however, they largely ignore all the successful stories from novels/comics/games/etc that stood the test of time and insist of writing almost everything anew, from the ground up. Why ignore the vast pool of material you already have from which you can pick and choose the top of the crop? This wouldn't be much of a problem, if they had excellent writers, who can come up with great stories on demand, but apparently they don't. If those writers could make lightning strike on demand, then they'd already have their own book/comic/etc. franchises running, but they don't, so they're mostly no-names that didn't bring fame to their craft. You may argue that adapting known stories isn't exciting, but evidently it works for Feige just fine.

>Black Iron Man
War Machine? he is a classic and have always been black

TLJ will be lucky to hit 1.2B at this point
Less than a stand-alone Iron Man movie hahahahahahaha

feige is very good at getting the main role right, look at all the marvel movies and you have really great leads that hold up many movies. the minute daisy ridley was thoughtlessly cast as the centerpiece everything else collapsed for the trilogy.

My issue with that is that blondes are actually rare in comics and even in reality. There are far more people in the world who look like mcu Valkyrie than comic Valkyrie. Comic Valkyrie, Sue storm, captain marvel are the only blonde/blue eyed females in marvel comics that I can think of and they've all been played or will be played by non blonde actresses. Steve Rogers and aquaman are 2 other blonde comic characters played by non blondes in the movies. Blondes and redheads are one of the rarest groups on earth and they always get hairswapped in films. Where is their representation?

This is an example of hands on producing and hands off producing.
Kevin Feige has been producing Marvel films for nearly 20 years.
He's had up and downs. Has learned what works and what flops. He is the Marvel movie guy, that's his shit. Not only that he's in the process. He's the one who is calling the shots on which movie is next, what heroes get showcased, and so on. He is a hands on producer.
Kathleen Kennedy has a longer track record but the majority of her films are all over the place. Different genres and such. When you go down the list you see that she has co-produced most of her films and had very high profile directors at the helm of the projects.
Most of the time when that happens one of the producers is counting the money while the other is on top of production process. The director is doing the heavy lifting and the producer is just checking in to make sure shit is on budget and on time. Kathleen Kennedy is not a hands on producer. She lets the directors/writers/other producers do the job and she just keep tabs.
This is why Marvel is a well oiled blockbuster making machine and Star Wars is all over the place.
Also she's a woman. And they just can't do shit well without someone holding their hand.

10 years ago you would have been right.

Star Wars isn't just a thing for socially alienated white men/boys anymore. It's grown beyond that little niche, and it also needs to lose the baggage associated with whiteness/maleness to reach a larger audience and have more influence.

Lots of the lessons and teachings embodied by Luke Skywalker are white, masculine and western in character. They've been done to death. The monomyth, Joseph Campbellian structure is dated and stale, and it can't keep running on those fumes forever.

I sympathize with lots of the grumbling white male neckbeards are doing. Star Wars was their thing and they don't want to share their beloved toys. And they're obviously gonna hate The Last Jedi because, in essence, it's about how Luke's legend really was flawed and limited in its scope.

The Jedi philosophy, just like the phallocentric white male western patriarchy, was bogged down in its own dogma. There's something beautiful and touching about the sentiment of "passing the torch" in TLJ. The white western male, long held as the only source of heroism and power in the canon, gracefully steps aside not only for his own good, but for the good of the universe.

In more diverse and progressive hands, there's no telling what this universe, and the force along with it, might become. It's an exciting prospect, to say the least, for those who aren't embittered neckbeards living in their parents' basements.

TLJ is going to be a watershed moment in sci-fi and genre films generally. It's all about letting go, letting your creation grow beyond you. And Star Wars, like civilization itself, has evolved beyond its parochial and patriarchal past.

>That scene where cap and iron man are arguing and she says "I work with children"
Wasn't this scene in Justice League?

Feige knows how to pick writers and directors. With full access to Disney's checkbook, he can expand his search. He can pay for all the shit his directors want, including any actor they want for a 1 off role. The casting director they have has hit it out of the park on each of the lead roles.

...

Marvel Cinematic Universe, ran by Feige
>nearly a dozen different IPs
>all exist within the same universe
>constantly intertwine
>every single film is a financial and critical success
>turned lame C-list characters like Captain America and Iron Man into billion dollar grossing icons
>impeccable casting
>more-or-less saved Marvel from bankruptcy
>makes the Spider-Man pipe dream a reality after working out an incredible deal with Sony
>will have been going for a decade strong in a few months

Star Wars, ran by Kennedy
>Three films, one is a sequel to the first, the other being an isolated spin-off
>remade A New Hope and made zero other plans for the trilogy
>latest film extremely controversial
>next spin-off movie is likely an absolute disaster, they somehow managed to hire a lead actor that can't act
>thriving off brand name alone

Oh good a thoughtful and accurate analysis

Also in both of Whedon's Avengers. She obviously can't be on the front lines and he makes these women on the team act like moms instead of carving out a better role in leadership or combat.

>turned lame C-list characters like Captain America and Iron Man into billion dollar grossing icons

TLJ is the weirdest movie product Ive seen in a while. It feels like they didnt even see the previous movie in the series. I wonder if they knew the script was shitty while they were making it, but they couldnt go back

>Black Iron Man (forgot his name).
War Machine aka James Rhodes is a better character than Tony Stark in fact I think the movies mishandle him. He's one of the few characters to put Tony in his place and get his head out of his ass.

The only film rights Marvel retained were the ones that no one else wanted to buy.

When Iron Man was made it was a C-list superhero being played by a washed up C-list actor.

Honestly, as untalented as Ridley is, the franchise would’ve been completely fine if they just put out competent scripts. Look at Rogue One, that was lazy but it was an easy lay-up

It’s mindblowing to me that a script with as many plotholes, contrivances, character regression, internal and external inconsistencies, awful jokes + dialogue, cringeworthy moralzing, self-contradictory messaging, etc taking things in such a tone deaf direction EVER got approved for ANY blockbuster, let alone a numbered Star Wars saga film like TLJ

I’m a bit in awe, desu. Does Rian eat out these execs or are they really so incompetent that they thought that script could work?

I know you're young, but previous to the MCU, the Avengers were 2nd fiddle to the Xmen and Spiderman in the late 90's/early 2000's.

Iron Man's Cap's and Thor's solo films were all considered risks at the time and RDJ was not guranteed bankable

My normalfag friends all saw Cap as an annoying boy scout back when Avengers 1, now they all think he's hot shit. And don't act like Iron Man was a remotely popular super hero before he was portrayed by RDJ.

Seriously, I cant imagine how that prank call shit to Hux in the beginning actually passed editing much less test audiences. I mean you have to imagine a lot of people probably said "this is dumb". Marvel has a lot of dumb humor too but nothing that feels quite so out of place or unprofessional.

It was better that way. That was the only good MCU movie. And that's an opinion from like 5 years ago, it's been a long time since I watched it.

TLJ fucked up by trying to make the movie take place directly after the TFA.
The two stories (Rey and The "Rebels") feel disjointed.
Characters in the Rebels story are saying they have X amount of hours of fuel then Fin is sent off to a planet far off, meanwhile Rey's story is happening over a unknown amount of days.
And then you have characters being completely retarded and secretive for the sake of "plot".
It's a weird movie because it feels like a bunch of ideas laced together with very flimsy reasoning and explanations.

Feige is using characters and plots that are memorable and familiar to the fan base with only slight alterations from the core stories to create films that do not suck or betray the fan base.

Kennedy is doing everything opposite of what I just said.

Why didn't the First Order track Finn and Rose's shuttle?

If feige ran star wars we would have just got TFA 20x and everyone would have liked it

Fuck Kevin Feige

>Left in charge of one of the most successful merchandising empires ever created
>Alienates and drives away fanboys who buy everything and young boys by turning it into a franchise for girls
>Little girls still don't care about Star Wars
>Massive drop in merch sales the likes of which has never been seen before
Bravo Kathleen great job

Are the Star Wars books/comics/games any good? If Feige was in charge he'd probably loosely adapt those.

The most popular and highest selling Marvel event before Iron Man was Marvel Civil War.
An event that centered around Iron Man, Cap, and the Avengers.
It's okay if you hate the characters and don't read comic but don't pretend like you do.

Anything by Zahn, Kevin J Anderson or Stackpole pre-yuzahn vong is kino at this point

Most of it is absolute trash but the stuff that is good is fantastic.

I thought the entire story with the Rebels was useless. I mean, is it really that fun watching them do that? Its just the same boring Rebels vs Empire shit over again, this just just displayed as a boring space battle. The entire idea of the movie sucks.

I mean the main idea is clearly Rey and Kylo and also their dealing with Luke. That's what everyone wanted to see. The entire plotline against the First Order felt entirely superflous, in my opinion.

>slight alterations
Civil War and Thor Ragnarok were no where close to the same as their comic versions.

You can't deny his success, i hate marvel movies (and DC movies for that matter, just all super hero movies) but his movies keep making money, consistently. And that's all that matters.

If Feige was in charge he'd make calculating cynical rehashes of the OT until the fanbase shat itself in exhaustation. Amd the guy has never given many fucks about source material.

When?
When they left the Rebel ship or when they snuck on the Snoke's ship?
When they left to find the code crack same reason why the shuttles weren't detected when Leia and the others escaped.
When they approached the code cracker magically created a blip in the system for them to get in undetected.

Feige was in charge of Marvel when they wanted him to do the same thing, but with no money.

None of us are as stupid as all of us.

Okay faggot, and what were those numbers exatcly? And how many more 90's babby's grew up on the Fox Xmen cartoon, Spiderman to a lesser extent and Dini Bats/JL?

We're not talking about whther people read the comics you dumb fuck, it's about how these characters were not considered mainstream by non-readers until the MCU you fucking brainlet.

>rose through the ranks by the casting couch
not with a face like that
nonetheless, she made star wars into her own political podium rather than having it stay true to its own story

but of course you idiots will pay again to see the next movie and buy more bullshit paraphenalia

I think to prevent spoilers from getting out, they only have test screenings way late into post production. This is hearsay, but I think Rian Johnson and Lucasfilm only had like 5 or 6 people watch the movie before screening it for critics and fans.

There are so many books, comics, video games, etc in the Star Wars expanded universe it would be impossible to say yes they are good without being somewhat misleading.

I thought the Legacy of the Force arc was brilliant. I highly recommend it. The New Jedi Order arc is long as fuck, but you may want to dig into that too. Shadows of The Empire is decent. The Thrawn trilogy can be retarded sometimes but that's passable because Thrawn is such a cool character. KOTOR I and II are exceptional. I love most of the tales set in the old republic.

I guess it all depends on your preference for writers. Some of the EU writers were absolutely crap.

The Rebels story was literally a slow speed chase with the leaders being incompetent in order to make Leia seem like the brains of the operation.

>but his movies keep making money, consistently. And that's all that matters.
To you? Me? Disney?

Transformers consistently break the billion. In fact, Transformers is a more consistent big earner than MCU. Does that mean Michael Bay should be put in charge of Star Wars?

Cult of Feige need to realize he's a good businessman and nothing more.

Just turn your brain off, bro
Star Wars isn’t for [people who care about things making sense] anymore

It was probably a fucking echo chamber of people smelling their own farts and enjoying it. These people, the ones running LucasFilms, they're fucking soulless.

The last Transformers movie did terrible $605,425,157

>its good that Feige consulted the clusterfuck of Marvel canon
>its good that Kennedy ignored the (admittedly less and more linear) clusterfuck of Star Wars EU (then) canon

I fucking hate nerds like you, stick to your Marvel shit

Pretty much. Revan, Bane, Thrawn, Katarn, Mara Jade etc. Those few names alone from different media had enough stories attached to last for 8-10 movies and have at least some renown among the fanbase. Gonna use them? Nah, the writer's room is sure to come up with much better stuff that'll definitely work! Btw don't chimp out on me if you don't like those examples, they were just the first to come to mind.
