This is Nick Spencer

He's going to be fired in two months and will be the fall guy for all of Marvel's current problems. Say something nice about him before he's banished from Big 2 work forever.

Ant-Man, the Fix, and Superior Foes were all pretty good at the worst and it's a shame you and the comics division are such assholes.

Don't forget about Avengers Standoff, I tend to judge a writer based on their bodies of work rather than their views spread out over social Media.

Standoff had a strong start and some funny moments but it sure fizzled out into nothing because it had to set up the set up for the next event.

I liked his Jimmy Olsen stories. I wish he did a proper run on Supergirl, wasn't fired by Matt Idelson (who was responsible for a ton of harebrained ideas on the Superbooks including forcing Busiek/Johns out for Robinson) and didn't have to go begging for a job at Marvel.

>Not making Bendis the fall guy
Fuck that.

Bendis has been a loyal company man for nearly two decades. Spencer rose fast, and he'll fall fast.

Bendis? A fall guy?

>Ant-Man
...nah

I can't wait for him to be fired so he can go back to bedlam

Had it not been for CW2 putting a bad taste in everyone's mouth I think Standoff would have been remember far better, hell even the tie in for Standoff were great

Bendis is also indirectly responsible for all of the major problems with Marvel today, he may be loyal, but he's also toxic as fuck

Yes, Bendis, the comic writer, falling, guy.

He gave us Kraven in a party hat.

And also, his books weren't even that bad. Of course my sense of taste might be whackadoo because of binging champions, mockingbird, hellcat, and America in a row, but Secret Empire is mediocre at worst to me.

>Say something nice about him
I admire the lenghts he went to make his Steve x Zemo College AU fanfiction canon.

He's also had time to make a shit ton of connections.

Im late to the party in that Ive only ever read the FCBD Secret Empire, plus issues 0 and 1 by Spencer. In a way I understand why fans are upset at HydraCap despite it being a pretty good story so far, (issue 1 has a really generic cliffhanger so it loses points for that, and I felt Daniel Acunas art was super disappointing in his issue). BUT I wonder if anyone actually gets whats going on here?
1-Spencer and Marvel do not understand the character and
2- People upset at HydraCap are upset at changes in a character they also do ot understand.
Captain America, for just about his entire existence, has always been leftist/libertarian and rarely right wing. Cap with Hydra seems to be a reaction to the swing towards right wing politics the country is undergoing and maybe its Spencer skewing that trend but hes wrong. Cap would actually be on the side of the millennial protestors, (except for their suppressing free speech), of the past couple of years. So, Marvel no longer understands the character. They see the flag and write stories against what they think the flags darkside is, (its a reflection of they see the country really).
Then the fans that are upset are upset thinking Marvel is shitting on half the countrys political belief systems when in reality the character they are "protecting" would not be on their side if written properly so they should actually love HydraCap acting more in line with a hard right characters beliefs.
Cap is a leftist being written as a rightist by a leftist reacting to the flag he wears while rightist fans are upset that the leftist character that does not support their worldview is being written as the character that makes their worldview the Marvel reality.

Its really weird how flipped outbackin everything is.

I'm still convinced that he probably walked in on Ike killing a hooker or something, no one else would be allowed to make so many bad comics, receive such negative feedback from readers, and still get all the top artists for his comics.

He's shit and if Marvel wants to make him their scapegoat I don't give a fuck

Marvel has more problems than just him but he is shit.

Pearlmutter is the source of every single problem that made Marve what is today.
It's his inhuman greed that chokes the company hard to the last penny and prevents them from hiring a new decent set of editors. Marvel's current editorial is understaffed and overworked and the few they have left are not that good to begin with.

>implying anything good would happen from Spencer getting fired

user it's literally a what if comic where cap was raised and joins by hydra. The people getting butt blasted because they're purist who are opposed to any change to the status quo or people who have no idea what the ongoing plot is about.

No I don't think he's guilty. He made Superior Foes. . . Superior Foes

I'm okay with Spencer just because he brought back Zemo back to the forefront where I hope he stays for a while, despite the fact his redesign kinda sucks.

/thread

I really enjoyed Superior Foes, and it was nice of you to dedicate it to us. Shame you had to go and be such a raging prick.

I'll say this. He has some titanium balls to keep HydraCap going even when public opinion is at such extreme lows. If I were him, I would've pussied out and just had the HydraCap arc last a couple issues, not an entire event.

I disagree. The emphasis on identity politics. That is not Perlmutter. That is Axel Alonso and Sana. Thor and Dr. Strange being shit. That is Jason Aaron. Spider-Man? Slott. GotG? Bendis. You can blame Ike for Inhumans and X-books being shit, but a lot of it is just horrible writers at Marvel who have overstayed their welcome and become stale or editors peddling their own agendas.

I reckon its just incompetents sticking up for each other. Bendis is surrounded by other guys who don't want to set the precedent. He, Slott and their ilk are the (rotten) heart and soul of Marvel, the equivalent to Johns, Lee and co at DC.

I think a lot of the problem is that Marvels current core personalities all face similar criticism and if one blamed another it would open them up to accusations of hypocrisy. So instead they turn on peripheral writers - Spencer in this case.

you know looking back on Superior Foes after having read the fix, I realize a lot of the humor came from the art, not the writing

Naw, X-men is Bendis fault, he's the one who pushed AvX, had the mutes turn into villains in the public eye again, had a long awful Uncanny run full of his OCs, pulled the o5 out of the past, made Kitty into some kind of space goddess, then left that steaming pile of shit for Bunn, Hopless and Lemier to work with.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
ABSOLUTELY BTFO'd
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

This was helped out with the Funko boxes, right? And both this and the #1 issue were like 4th in digital sales, which is a good representation of what actual readers are buying. Well... bye Nick. You'll have a lot of free time for reflection.

Why the fuck would they fire Spencer when Secret Empire is selling so well?

Slott is an idea guy who can't write, he has good ideas for comics, but his written results are just abysmal.

it seems like the Funko boxes weren't counted, because those numbers are bizarrely low if they were

>why have coffee at all? Poop is better.
>t.marvel pr.

You may be an ass on Twitter, but I've enjoyed most of what I've read by you.

hey, I just want the series to be finished even if it turns out terrible

I think internet-autism is ruining everything. Unless you are Marvel Studios you can not make the slighest change to a character without causing a shitstorm of screechntards online. DC fans are a million times worse than even the worst Marvel fan though. DC cant deviate whatsoever in the movies while the MCU does whatever it wants. In comics these kinds of stories were always very normal fare so i get what youre saying. just try to imagine the reaction today if they resurrect Thor-frog for a 2 year run. Yikes!

Anybody that bought Superior Foes can blame themselves for this. The fact that people defend that shit despite everything else Spencer writes being inarguable trash should tell you about Superior Foes fags

>it's a what if comic
>that's happening in the main continuity

fuck off.

If it's a 'what if' it shouldn't be affecting other books.

I refuse to say anything nice until Bedlam gets continued.

Nice try, intern.

>Green Lanterns stars two minority legacies and is just as successful as the "real" Green Lantern book
>New Super-man, despite not selling that well, is a critical and fan darling
yep, DC fans are a million times worse

This is just a perfect storm of legitimate fanboy rage (the fanboys are legitimate; the rage is at least open to debate) casual rage fueled by ignorance and the news media vigorously fucking a dead horse.
I love it.

Dear Nick Spencer, If you will give us a 2 year run of HydraCapThor dominating the entire MU until he is defeated by Odinson, who then reclaims his hammer...i will suck your cock on stage at Comicon and Im totally straight, dont like traps, dont watch porn, dont watch anime. i will suck your entire dingaling tothe finish, slurping up every beta male sperm you produce if you give me 2 years of CapThor slaying liberalism and clamping down on lollygaggers throughout the MU.

thank you for pissing off both sides of facism, the Sup Forumspol/tards and the twitblr SJW

It's not selling well for an event. Probably below 100k next month. That's very bad.

I think he needs a good no man. Someone who can tell him when his idea is shit.

>Odinson
I hope it all burns and Marvel becomes a reprint house.

Thor's probably getting his hammer back in #6 but get his ass kicked anyway

No. Its true. think back to the GL movie. DC fans were the biggest fucking crybabies. The whine was epic. "Its too funny! He made a green matchbox car racetrack in the boss battle!' whine whine whine...then look at marvel fans drooling over star lord making a pacman avatar during the boss battle...its night and day...marvel fans allow marvel studios to do ANYTHING they want while DC fans want to lynch a nigga for the slightest bit of creativity that deviates, or even accurate versions like a GL that makes silly things in combat. DC fans are weird as fuck.

I meant for the DCEU vs MCU but youre right. DC comic book fans are more open to changes than marvel comic book fans, but not for movies. then they become screechntards.

You can't see it becuase of the rain, but I'm pretty sure Vision is crying.

This would kill DC as well because LCSes need Marvelfags to stay in business. The dummies buying Slott Spider-Man and shit are needed.

DC does do very well with their trade sales but it's still not enough to cover the production costs and pay creative teams. At least not yet. Give it maybe another 10 years.

This is a comic thread, faggot.

bendis? a fall guy? the Brian Michael bendis? the brian michael bendis who writes comics?

Thank G*d for Mark Brooks.

...

I don't care about modern DC either, user. I mean I don't have any active ill-will towards them, but I just don't care.

Do you think there'll be an omnibus collecting the whole Hydracap saga? I feel like that's something I'd be interested in picking up.

>implying "what if's" don't affect the main continuity all the time
shiggy

but really it's the main premise is flawed by the fact that Red skull is off the board already considering he started the whole debacle.

>leftist/libertarian

these are opposites you retard

user there are things to live for in life

You were much, much, much better than current Bendis and I'd much rather have you stay on and him fired. You actually seemed like someone who enjoyed comics and enjoyed reading and writing them, and you treated all your characters (save Trump-analogues) with a respect that is rarely found these days. You don't fuck them over like Aaron or Leth are doing. You clearly enjoy writing certain characters, like Taskmaster and Maria Hill, unlike most other writers who treat it all as a sort of editorially-mandated slog. I'm going to miss that earnestness. I'm sorry about your twitter feed being so dumb, but that was a small price to pay to have someone like you brightening up the darkness that was Civil War II with Hydra-Cap.

IIRC Standoff did get at least a hardcover. The event will probably get one as well but I don't know if the main Cap ongoing sold well enough to justify it. But again they did give Superior Foes an omnibus so you never know.

>Say something nice about him before he's banished from Big 2 work forever.

If Secret Empire and the events leading up were a "What If" special series and not 616. We'd be talking about Secret Empire as one of the best comics of the decade instead of a ruinous clickbait generator because it would have free reign to go wild with KeiakkuCap and actually add tension and drama to the series as heroes can be killed instead of sticking to 616 status quo.

And he ruined it all just for the e-fame and shock comic sales along with Bendis. Waid's already apologising to DC and kissing their ass begging for work. Better get on your knees, Nick.

>DC extends the olive branch to Spencer
>He writes street-level books

pls

Not just streetlevel but z-list as well. Something similar in scope to Manhunter would be good. He could just fuck around and wouldn't piss anyone off.

Are you coming out?

It could've been Superman: Red Son instead it was Superman Red/Blue.

The main problem is that this whole story is fucking depressing. It would be one thing to do a really depressing story after a bunch of lighthearted ones, but every event is mostly pain and misery.

Marvel seems to be aware of the problem because they talked this event up as a return to traditional good guys vs. bad guys fun. Of course it isn't, so they just made things worse by the lying.

And of course all this violence and death and heroes acting evil makes no sense in terms of Marvel's goal of appealing to younger, newer readers. They put out a FCBD story that has near-incomprehensible art and muted colors, and narration about how everything is terrible. The only people who would sit still for that kind of thing in cape comics are the old established fans.

Not that user, but I wouldn't say that I'm not interested in current DC, just less so than most posters, I mean, I've got some DC on my pull list, but things like the watchmen meger, super son, deathstroke's redemption, anything GL related, and the current Suicide Squad comic, just don't really interest me that much.

Don't get me wrong, I understand the hype and why some Fandoms are over joyed, and I think it's great for them, but I don't fully share that hype.

As more of a Marvelfag I will say that there is no argument that DC is leading in prodicing the overall quality comics right now.

Foes and Fix, sure. Ant-Man was dreadfully boring.

>Sir, you're being poopophibic.

This whole thing better just be an elaborate ruse that ends with Nick Fury coming back and blowing Hydra Cap's brains out

Not if you have more than three total brain cells

Its cause Viv is dead.
That's right you heard it here first Viv dies by lynching

>Cap defeats all the Avengers/other teams handily
>All hope is lost
>We see Thor Odinson bloodied and laying down until he sees a strange flash of light and portal open in front of him
>A hand reaches out

It's Superman

>1 mutant
>3 Inhumans

Back to the old roots they said

Has DC ever offered olive branches to anyone?

Tried to do it with Alan Moore when they asked him to write Before Watchmen in exchange for the IP. It didn't work, obviously.

Rucka
Priest even though they never wronged him per se

I wouldn't argue, and I am pleased for DC fans.
Beyond that, if you are a fan of older Marvel, the omni action coming from Marvel over the last few years is insane and Unlimited is a hell of a deal.

That is the face of a man who is clearly dead inside.

>DC: Priest would you like to write a non-black character
>Priest: FUCKING finally, yes

pretty obvious olive branch, really

>lid

...

>they'll go for the Age of Ultron ending

But the rain just goes through him

Have they finally given Squirrel Girl a new explanation for her powers?

The art was certainly awesome, but you have to admit the writing was still great

That's because Lieber drew whatever he wanted so the main story is his and all Spencer did was input dialogue.

That's the worst part. He could have done a full alt-history of the MU and built off the Avengers increasingly pro-active measures and collusion with government as a thematic build up but instead we get Kobik putting a whammy on everyone.

As much as NuMarvel sucks, the full image has a 2:1 ratio between mutants and inhumans

>say something nice
No
It was his own damn fault
He deserves the backlash

The only reason he did Hydracap was because he was butthurt that Sam Wilson (aka Captain #BlackLivesMatter) was selling like shit and no one liked him. So he tried to throw Steve under the bus to make him look good. It failed and blew up in his face.

So no. Spencer can choke on a dick.

That's sort of what Steve Wacker did. You can see the difference between when Wacker was editing and when Lowe was editing.

As much as I enjoy shitposting about Marvel crashing and burning, they are absolutely retarded if they try to pin it all on Spencer. Nor is the problem solely on Bendis or even Ike. The problem is systematic, not something you can just lump all onto one guy and send him on his ass out into the street.

But it will be great to see Spencer getting the walking papers
