they made real pod-racers
George was a madman

The pod race is amazing and one of the highlights of the franchise.

Podracer movie when?

dae maggie gyllenhaal's cameo?

the podracing is easily the best thing about the prequels. it single handedly is why episode 1 is the best, because everything else about them is shit but 1 has podracing

the casino planet on VIII should have been podracing

cgi shit in motion is pretty easy to achieve plus they use a lot of physical props. but yeah it looks great. best part of the prequel trilogy. the phantom menace is the best movie of the pt

never ever, Disney will never acknowledge the Prequels in any meaningful way

*CHUG CHUG CHUG CHUG*

The sound effects work in the podracing scenes (outside of Anakin talking) is great, the noises that Sebulba's pod makes are fucking awesome.

>move come screeching to a halt for a halfhour long racing scene to sell a tie in video game

>that part where sebulba rolls up pretty much right ontop of anikin and you can hear the sounds become even more intense
Pretty neat

>Disney will never acknowledge the Prequels in any meaningful way
...unless they remake them...................................................................................

its about half of that but alright

they already acknowledged them as canon so how could they?

It aged well because a lot of it is practical effects with CG highlights. Sebulba's crash was a model believe it or not.

im sure the n64 game has not

Qui'gon couldn't just phone a fellow Jedi over the Holonet and get someone to pick him up. Decides to risk everything on a slave boy winning a race.

Qui gon risked even more by insisting that anikin be trained, though knowing how based he was he probably would have saved shmi ASAP and things would have been all g

Got any proof of this? A lot of people are hearsaying it but where does Disney themselves say this?

when they parroted the same tired prequel bashing talking points during TFA's development

That's not the same thing as officially avoiding anything prequel related in future movies

now this is CGI!

Podracing and Duel of the Fates are the highlights of the film, though. Podracing was also a much better demonstration of Anakin's piloting prowess over WHOOPS R2 WE DUN GOOFED BUT WHATEVER I HAVE PLOT ARMOR.

I mean they probably will now that the Prequels are looked upon more positively after TFA and TLJ were turds.
They'll go where the money is

Oh, I have foreseen this as soon as disney bought "wars"

it will be sometime, but it will happen

That honestly would have been awesome. But no, muh aminul raights! We know podracing is a galaxy wide thing, so why not.

Kind of, yes. People have a misconception that these films were all built entirely in front of a green/blue screen with no props or anything, and that's just not entirely true, the prequels really did use a lot of practical effects.

this but unironically

RAAWWRRRRR?

Actualy the whole podracing scene is amazing storytelling.

>Anakin is facing tremendous odds
>We're shown that sabulba sabotaged his podracer
>Watto, the his owner, who knows him best is betting against him
>Mom is super nervous for her son, as she knows the danger he is in, she doesn't care about the outcome just as long as her boy is safe
>Start of race cuts to Anakin's friends, grounding him as a character
>Qui Gon Jin is the only guy who believes in Anakin because the force = hope

TPM used a lot of practical effects, then george lucas gave up

>The Fast and the Furious 98
>Future Vin diesel steals and modifies pod racers for an illegal racing league, but his crew is infiltrated by an imperial spy

>mfw that sudden cut off of the music when Sebulba realizes how fucked he his and the sounds his podracer makes when it comes crumbling apart
Lucasfilm really went all out with the sound effects and music in the prequels, shame they haven't made anything memorable like that or Slave I's bombs in the sequels.

The problem is that those practical effects were too few to be noticeable and george got crazier on every sequel to the point that by episode 3 you had entire cgi sets with only a couple chairs.

That game was fun though

>movie jumps from a relentlessly terrible plot into one of the best action sequences of all times
thank fucking christ

Not entirely. While it seems like he used CGI a lot more with the subsequent ones, he still used a lot of practical effects as well. I was surprised to learn that certain shots of Mustafar were actually practical. I'd just figured they'd 100% CGI'd it.

Then those practical effects weren't good enough.
That, or the editing fucked everything up, there were so many shots in Mustafar that looked straight out of ps2

>by episode 3 you had entire cgi sets with only a couple chairs

It was a good game though. PodRacing on the 64 was dope.

>Neva Kee, A Star Wars Story

I've acquired a meme in a game of lulz, the dankest ever keked."

Here's another really cool practical effect photo.

Care to post some of those ps2 shots?

Now that would be podracing

I suddenly remembered all the times I've spent on the arcade game. It was actually pretty fun.

hot opinion i wouldn't have minded if the entirety of episode 1 was just anakin going through a podracing tournament and doing progressively more ridiculous force powered bullshit to win until he's the champ

I like this one, too.

oldfag here..
this sequence was the "show off" section when I would crank up my A/V system to the limit to freinds. Was in AC-3 (dolby digital 5.1 now). Was on a Jap imported Laser Disc ($120). Last disc I ever bought.

Played the arcade game drunk as fuck at Dave and Busters a month ago with some bros. There's no rubberbanding if you play multiplayer and one crash changes the entire race. It was an awesome experience.

Whoops, quoted the wrong reply here . But, uh, to address your reply, I mean, if you don't like how something looks, that's entirely your opinion. That's up to you.

What isn't a matter of opinion is the fact that they used practical effects with CGI, which is why crying "it's all CGI'd" is dumb and you shouldn't do that.

The game was worth it

TPM produced one of the best things to come out of the whole franchise:

youtube.com/watch?v=qzVBqBosf5w

A lot of the Naboo stuff is shot on real locations that you can still visit.

WOH

WAAAAAAHHHHH

Always thought it was a little weird that Sebulba's voice completely changed between the podrace and his earlier scenes

>they didn't actually drop maul into a real bottomless pit this is bullshit!

Episode I Racer is a really good game so hell yeah give me some more of that stuff.

>meanwhile in Abramsland

me on the left

Yep. They also used models to create Theed, although a lot of it is real locations.

theed?

venice

sheed

thneeds feed and theed

(Formerly Chuck)

But, no, Theed is the name of the palace city on Naboo, the place where Padme is at the beginning of TPM.

>they made a full scale hover tank

They already acknowledge the prequels with the tv show.

>we will never get a podracing underdog story
>feelsbadman

>podracing underdog story
We already got one with young skywalker.

Yeah yeah eally nice sets and kits and all but it's all meaningless if you completely fuck over it on post production with horrible lightning, editing and a million more fuck ups.
It doesn't matters if you have the best hand crafted sets in the world if you have no clue on how to use them

youtube.com/watch?v=Xx52--WmLQs&
For example, first shot is great for it's time and then comes in that awful fucking theater entrance, it's like you're on psychedelics.
It's not even a case of bad cgi but more of a bad case of everything else, like they just paint dragged the actors in with no care or thought for lightning and a million film techniques.

I thought those were bigger

Actually this.

Just watch Redline

You guys tend to cherry pick and nit pick scenes in the PT that looked amazing considering the tech around back then. At the same time you ignore that the OT can be castrated just as easily with some of the Special Effects and wonky looking Puppets they used. It's odd to me that you guys are so critical of every element of every scene in the PT looking for flaws but you can sit through the OT and somehow not be bothered by the same kinds of dated looking scenes.

BR2049 has the same problem. You can find the raw footage of the various model landscapes/cityscapes on Weta's YouTube page, and it looks better than even the original film - absolutely, convincingly real. Then they dropped in a load of CGI hologram adverts, CGI rain and atmospheric effects, etc and suddenly the whole shot looks like CG. Bizarre and you'd think they'd have identified and eliminated the integration problem of doing mixed-media effects like that by now.

No.

The prequel trilogy has far more scenes that stick out like a sore thumb. It also doesn't help that they have a shit story so it's harder to overlook these glaring flaws.

mind if i roll NEEEEEED?

>it's like you're on psychedelics.
I don't see what you mean here. Looks fine.

TPM was actually good so was RoS its was AotC that sucked ass of prequels

>the PT has a lot more
Selective memory. When was the last time you actually watched the OT?

Look at the background of pic related. If I was autistic as you act while watching the PT, while watching the OT I wouldn't be able to enjoy scenes like this because it's obvious the background isn't real and Luke is actually on a set that isn't even off the ground.

I tend to agree with this, but Clones does have its moments. I also think Clones had some good deleted scenes that they should have used instead of what they went with.

>muh immersion
Can't enjoy star wars because these are obviously puppets and they are bad puppets

This desu.

haha oh wow!!!

Original trilogy has some pretty bad effects.

Am I supposed to be convinced by this shitty puppet. LOL XD The OT SUCKS

That pic looks a lot better than something like The prequels are shit. Deal with it George.

Not the other guy but my brain reads this as more real than CGI for whatever reason. I think a big problem with CGI vs the old ways like matte painting and miniatures is that human eye/brain is very, VERY good at detecting imperfection - to the point where if something is too perfect, it's more noticeable than if it looks organically defective. Some of the best CG artists nowadays have finally started to get this and include intentional defects in their work to make it look more natural.

all of the sound design in star wars is god tier.

fun fact: the man responsible for it isn't wanted by disney

>he doesn't know about george's lust for cars and motorsports

fuck off faggot

>hey lando why are you standing in front of that painting of the millennium falcon ain't you supposed to be fighting a death star

No it doesn't. Both look like garbage but since you like the OT you pretend it looks good

...

>ywn drive one of these

>that's the power of Colt 45

...

>ywn have anything fun or interesting happen to you in your entire lifetime
>yw die alone and afraid

The one in Empire looks better, but because you're a hipster that likes the prequels you try to bring down the original movies in any way you can.

TPM had it's moments but it got ruined hard by the flow and some shitty choices.
It's probably the better one out of the trilogy, it just focused too much on the wrong shit.
Clones was a fucking disaster from beginning to end.
Sith was a mix of both, good/decent ideas but executed kinda poorly in most aspects while they remove really important shit and nice scenes that would tie up a lot of stuff together

>that IG88 looking all washed out and spliced in
>those fucking limbs on the dinosaur
