Memes aside, what films are so kino that everyone should see them?
/recommendations/
Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
"Kino" is a meme phrase. You want the opinions of a true film buff? Ask about "Wilesesque" cinema.
Time Bandits
Depends, OP. What genre do you like? What era? Can you specify any parameters?
Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice Ultimate Edition
Problem Child 2 and The Pest
Blade Runner 2049, but watch the directors or final cut of the original first
Blacked
I'll watch anything except a Rom Com. Sci-fi is usually my go-to, but I'm looking to broaden my horizons with good movies in general. Not picky about decade either.
Citizen Bane
Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missiouri
Bump
Okay, here's a list of my favourite sci-fi. Some real obvious ones in there but I didn't know how obvious you wanted.
1927 Metropolis (Lang)
1953 The War of the Worlds (Haskin)
1956 Forbidden Planet (Wilcox)
1982 TRON (Lisberger)
1986 The Fly (Cronenberg)

1998 Dark City (Proyas)
2000 Pitch Black (Twohy)
2002 Equilibrium (Wimmer)
2009 Mr. Nobody (Van Dormael)
The more obvious ones:
1968 Planet of the Apes (Schaffner)
1971 A Clockwork Orange (Kubrick)
1977 Star Wars (Lucas) - debatably not sci-fi
1978 Superman (Donner)
1982 Blade Runner (Scott)

1985 Back to the Future (Zemeckis)
1987 RoboCop (Verhoeven)
1993 Jurassic Park (Spielberg)
1993 Groundhog Day (Ramis)
1995 Twelve Monkeys (Gilliam)

Uh-huh.
Wilesesque
no Brazil? Mad Max I & 2?
I never really thought of Mad Max as science-fiction. It's dystopian, I guess, but it doesn't really make use of any sort of allegory or even any sci-fi constructs. I haven't watched it in over a decade though so maybe it's worth another look.
I haven't seen Brazil but it's on my list.
...
I've always considered dystopian or post-apocalyptic as sub genres of sci-fi. Mad Max definately commentates on our society. You might define Sci-fi as speculative fiction set in our unvierse, or you might say it's about gizmos and high tech stuff and spaceships, but imo it's the former. Even with the latter, Mad Max does explore technological changes and especially in how they relate to resource scarcity. If Children of Men is sci-fi then Mad Max certainly is.
"...science fiction is something that could happen - but usually you wouldn't want it to. Fantasy is something that couldn't happen - though often you only wish that it could"
Arthur C. Clarke
Brazil is fantastic, get on it.
Yeah, that's pretty fair. I disagree that anything post-apocalyptic is automatically science-fiction but you've convinced me on Mad Max.

Good taste tbqh. I enjoy the visuals and technical work in that one and I buy the explanation that it's dialogue and acting is styled after 30s films.
