X men question

Was magneto a holocaust survivor in the comics or just the movies? If he was doesn't that make him a huge hypocrite?

read a comic

>If he was doesn't that make him a huge hypocrite?
Huh, you're right. What a silly oversight that was to his core characterization.

>Was magneto a holocaust survivor in the comics
Yes

/thread

Stupid thread aside, here's an actual question.

What will Magento's origin be moving forward? It'll get to the point where it's impossible he was old enough to live in the holocaust, so what will his tragedy be?

That's not how the Marvel timeline works. They explained this in Ultimates. Important events slide down the timeline. Magneto would already be hella old at this point. Never mind he's been aged down or cloned, or just came back from the dead at several points. Comics just don't work like that. He'll always be a holocaust survivor, and one of those times he was aged down will just shift with him.

It would real easy to retcon in him having a healing factor that slows his aging.

or perhaps they'll make him reliant on some kind of rejuvenation machine like in X-men Evolution

>it's impossible he was old enough to live in the holocaust

He's been deaged at least twice. He just has white hair at this point

Meh, sounds stupid, but you are probably right, this only works great for cap America.

Here.

He speeds up the iron in his blood to negate aging. That's all they need to say.

He's a bad character in a stupid outfit that gets too much fucking love because of being overpowered as fuck and some family relations sometimes.

Morrison please, I'm sure there's at least one thread up about sucking your dick

I'm pretty sure Marvel is just going to leave the burden on the readers to assume that every bullshit retcon that's ever been thrown his way will still hold as canon forever, despite the sliding timeline. Why does nobody ever question why the fucking Red Skull is (was?) still alive.. at least recently, when he was born in the fucking late 1800's, and his whole origin is centered around serving Hitler in his adulthood- well BEFORE the war? Fucking comic books, man.

And on that note.. Why are the concentration camps deemed so integral to Mag's origin, but being persecuted by the Soviets later in life for being a mutie is not? Imo, the Holocaust thing doesn't really stand on it's own as a sole justification for his genocidal prejudice, if the only thing unique about Mags among the millions of other jew survivors is the genetic power level to chimp out and start killing people by the thousands.

The comics have always been weird with timelines, but the movies will have to deal with it more so. Probably just what other anons are saying and have him de-age himself or some shit.

Go to bed, Morrison.

Don't go to bed Morrison. We need you to come back and save Marvel Comics, again.

Even if Magneto didn't have access to weird science medicine and mutants with powers of rejuvenation, the guy has been de-aged once before, his magic B... Witch daughter has brought him back from the dead more than once, his health and general strength is directly related to how much exposure he's recently had to magnetic fields not of his own making, and it's not as if all the immortal mutants know they have immortality mutations before they start outliving everyone they know.
You think Sebastian Shaw knew absorbing kinetic energy would make him live for a hundred years?
Add to that the possibility of post-life manifestations like with Phoenix or Selene and there's no reason to think this one mutant is limited by the average HUMAN lifespan.

My personal favorite explanation is that he was held in stasis by South American Nazis. This does several things

>keeps him roughly the same age as charles
>explains why he was young in stories set before his deaging
>explains why he didn't go public earlier
>keeps the holocaust fresh in his mind

Imagine waking up from 1945 to find that another group you belong to is about to be persecuted in the same way. You find another member of your group aware of the coming storm but he is soft. He has lived an easy life as a rich motherfucker and has no idea the lengths these types will go to to exterminate those that are different. His dream of peaceful co-existence is completely delusional.

Then again, I also prefer Charles to be a non-mutant.

>Why are the concentration camps deemed so integral to Mag's origin, but being persecuted by the Soviets later in life for being a mutie is not? Because A) Everyone likes to cover up the atrocities the Soviets wrought upon their subjects and B) the Holocaust is far more iconic. I agree with you though. Once is an accident. Twice is a coincidence. Three times is a pattern

No, because he's trying to prevent another holocaust. He's not for genocide.

stan lee made him a fascist. because that is what stan lee makes of all his villain characters. claremont later made him a holocaust survivor and then turned him into a good guy or something. i dont know i stopped reading at around x-men 130 or something.

What is with this bullshit push to whitewash the Holocaust out of public consciousness?
It happened.
If you want a book where it never happened, read a Texas schoolbook.
Don't demand The X-Men abandon an aspect of it's core mythology to push your personal hate-speech.
And it's a damned important thing to mention when you're writing a comic about bigotry and persecution.
Bad things have happened in real-world history when bigots are left to proceed unchallenged.
Magneto is a great character because his response is the Frank Castle response, and it's only the X-Men that can stop him without him becoming the spokesperson for all mutantkind.

>"Hurrr, but why should Frank Castle have a dead family killed by mobsters in his origin? Change it!"

If you don't like the comic, don't read it
and you won't have a reason to shitpost on X-threads. Problem solved.

>Why does nobody ever question why the fucking Red Skull is (was?) still alive.
Nazi Science/Occult Artifacts are fucking advanced shit man

Wolverine?
Apocalypse?
Mystique?
Destiny?
Dr. Nemesis?
Professor X?
Sebastian Shaw?
Exodus?
Mr. Sinister?
Juggernaut?
Crimson Commando?

They don't need to change it. All they need is for one of his numerous deagings to happen before he fights the X-Men.

He was a clone of the original for the last few years.
Before then he cosmic cube / demonically possessed his mind into a Russian oligarch's body.
Before then his brain was surgically transplanted into a Steve Rogers clone body.
At some point I think there was a cryo-tube or two used.
They used to recap these details because readers *DID* ask. Just like with Magneto once being de-aged by a magic alien freak.

Just give him a new power: immortality
