Try to pay attention to only the imagery and ignore her voice and the fact that it's played by a woman. The character is essentially a super stormtrooper (which are seen as mostly white male entities) getting bested by a black man. Notice how on their second encounter you only see her crying, afraid, pathetic blue eye, dissapearing into the void, as the black man stays safe and victorious. Visually, Phasma represents yet another Krennic, Sheev, Hux or Tarkin: an evil white male.
