Ok let's not talk about the pacing issues, the dialogue/writing, Ashi, the guardian or Jashi or if Jack is gonna get back to the past or not.
I don't think anyone is gonna argue that the first 3 episodes were beautiful, the background art, scenery and setpieces were amazing, not to mention extremely memorable moments like Jack in ep 3 drenched in blood or the river of bodies in ep 1. Not to mention the fights, the temple fight with the daughters in the dark, the fight with them in the snow covered backdrop with Jack calmly dispatching them one by one the wacky scaramouche fight.

Pic related. That entire scene is just pure KINO/10, the slow pan over this mysterious ancient tome, the music, the tension as Jack is close to the breaking point and the fight after that is gonna be remembered as one of the best scenes in cartoon history. Anything after ep 3 just doesn't have the same impact.

The only ones that come close in the tea making and Jack journey though a land littered by robots only to discover the guardian's shattered glasses. The fights aren't as good, Jack's "fight" with Omen, Ashi single handily dispatching an entire army without much effort or her fight and the following fight with her mother and worse of all, the fight with that leech monster. And the background art/scenery is as good looking.

So yeah, not to feed into the endless Jashi argument but even if you're looking at it from a purely techincal point of view, the rest of the season isn't as good as the first three eps.

Just proving my point here.

i think the 4th episode deserves a mention still. while lacking the tension of the first three, everything in it was simply scenery porn and you could say it's a good breather episode for the large part.

Season 5 was a mistake.

Ashi would have worked better if she were a friend instead of a lover.

The whole love thing is extremely cliche. Jack's made tons of friends in the past but has never killed one (I don't think so, anyway, besides the one rock guy he sent to Valhalla).

Also, Ashi probably could have deserved more attention to her character's development. The pacing in her change of view was steady, but then she too quickly became another quirky chick character (responds with "yep" instead of "yes" when answering that she's going to destroy that whole army).

Thanks a lot for one more of these really useful threads, user!

Don't talk about Ashi man, I already said that this thread is to talk about the decreasing quality of the fights and scenery porn not another thread about Ashi.STFU. SJ is the best cartoon ever made and it deserves to have mutiple threads. It's not like Sup Forums has anything else to discuss anyway. Also at least it's not another Ashi thread.

Episode 1 sucked balls. It's only seen as good and not as poorly paced as later episodes because Aishi isn't there.

You sucked balls.

Be-bee-ba-boo-bo-da go fuck yourself babe

you shall now realize how much tumblr saturates Sup Forums with the incessant bitching about Ashi and her relationship with Jack everytime Jack threads show up. just with less labels, more pointless whining

Only tumblrites actually like relationshit.

>Episode 1 sucked balls
Are we living in the same universe? It's the most highly reviewed episode, it's the most well-paced episode, it's the episode with the best fight, and it's the episode with the coolest-looking Jack.

First 3 episodes are the best of the series, the other 8 so far have all been pretty much on par with the first 4 seasons. It's true the season peaked right off the bat but besides the relationshit, everything has still been great. No episode has been below a 7/10. I think the reception will be better for the rest of the season once the whole thing is done and can be marathoned front to back as a single story.

have you not seen the fallout from them when it's actually established that Jashi is a thing?

That's because they are cis-haters obsessed with gayness, they wanted a relationshit but not this particular kind of relationshit.

Meanwhile true patricians just want any kind of relationshit gone.

It's a very jarring tonal/pacing change after the first couple of episodes.

>Jack struggles but manages to defeat the sisters through strategy instead of pure strength
>Ashii then kills a literal army a few episodes later

THIS, by far.

Go look back at the original series. It had it duds, even its stronger episodes had flaws, just like the current series. No series can be perfect, but its just right. And that's what we deserve.

people seem to give this episode a lot of flak but the moments where it truly mattered is actually both the most relaxing and the most interesting part of the whole thing. it's so calm and quiet, you can almost feel you're there too. and the part where he's fighting with himself was pretty great
it's not like he fought that army by himself anyway but that's not we're really there for

>true patricians
You mean kissless virgins who hate being reminded of their crushing loneliness?

I really liked episode 9. It was a good episode despite Ashi.
