REY IS MOST REALISTIC NEW JEDI THUS FAR

>Crying Male Virgins: I hate Rey, she's a Mary Sue!

anakin built the worlds fastest pod racer and c3po when he was nine

the first time luke flew a spaceship he destroyed the fucking death star.

Rey literally spent all of her downtime flying a flight simulator to the point that it could no longer throw anything at her she couldn’t handle. For all kinds of ships. Nor did she solely scavenge star destroyers. She spent her entire life scavenging every imaginable wreck on Jakku, and her survival depended on her learning what ships had what parts and what was valuable. This, while competing with other scavengers, most of them working in teams.

Which meant she had to learn how to fight, or else she wouldn’t have gotten out of childhood.

Basically, Rey had way more in-canon reasoning to be as good as she was than Luke Skywalker did–who basically went from never flying much out of atmo to piloting an X-wing under combat conditions and rocking it… apparently just because of genetics and the Force. Who then went on, only half-trained, into a fight that even YODA thought he was going to die in, and survived, against a man literally birthed by the Force, trained as both a Jedi AND a Sith, with about 25 years of combat experience under his belt, whereas Luke had had a lightsaber for about 3 years. What a Mary Sue he was, huh?

Rey had more reason to be what she was than Anakin Skywalker, who accidentally wound up in a fighter and accidentally destroyed a droid ship. Anakin who was such a Mary Sue he was LITERALLY A VIRGIN BIRTH. How Mary Sue is THAT?

The creators, in short, HAD TO GIVE REASONS for every single thing Rey knew how to do, because of assholes like this person, who would take any special skill she had as proof that she was a “Mary Sue” just because she was a female character. No one bothered to give those reasons to Luke or Anakin. Because they’re the hero. OF COURSE they can do the impossible. But Rey? Jesus, what a Mary Sue.

Your weak shilling/bait isn't going to change anyone's opinion.

Not an argument, respond to the post, not what you wrongly believe to be the agenda behind the post.

>Mary sue
I hate the bitch because she’s a woman, simple as that.

>it's another retard has a fundamental misunderstanding of what a Mary Sue is episode

I don't even despise Rey as a character or anything, but she is undisputably a Mary Sue.

Would you like to make an actual argument?

Realism is unimportant when it comes to a space fairy tale. It's about identifiable archetypes well executed.

If you have to provide detailed backstory (that you don't elaborate on in your actual fucking movie) to explain how a chracter can do any and every thing that they do, you have written a shit character.

The point is that people call Rey a Mary Sue because she is a woman, while they don't call Luke or Anakin such because they are men.

It is expected that men are good at what they do.

People think that women need a detailed back story to explain how they get out of bed in the morning.

You don't know what a Mary Sue is.

>Rey literally spent all of her downtime flying a flight simulator to the point that it could no longer throw anything at her she couldn’t handle. For all kinds of ships. does this get established in the movie anywhere? because i don't read star wars books.

>Don't call me out for what I am

nice try

Hang yourself so I can get internet famous posing next to you

Go ahead and give me your definition then.

You are not in charge, faggot. Anons will respond however they like. You, on the other hand, have to SUCK IT.

How can she speak fluent Wookie?
How does she know how to swim?
How does she know how to pilot with such finesse that she can out maneuver highly trained Tie fighter pilots with ease?
How does she know how to fix Falcon better than Han the first time shes on it despite not being a mechanic?
How does she have Obi Wan level force powers despite no training?
How does she develop force powers exceeding Yoda after just one session of intense meditation with Luke?
How is she able to beat down the greatest Jedi master that ever lived with just a stick?
How is she able to defeat multiple Elite Praetorian guards despite no lightsabre training?

Not him but it's a self-insert by the author.

Naw, it's an idealized character.

no, a mary sue is not necessarily a self insert
you're retarded

Holy shit, the /leftypol/ invasion is fucking real.

>that you don't elaborate on in your actual fucking movie
The movie does elaborate on it, though. There a bunch of scenes thrown in to explain all the shit she can do. I actually think the way they handle everything is a little too obvious; for every ability she has, there's literally at least one scene from earlier in the movie that shows how she would know how to do it. I don't know why so many people seem to miss that stuff, maybe it's because the movie doesn't obviously call attention to itself when it's doing that.

>How can she speak fluent Wookie?
Same way everyone in the films can
>How does she know how to swim?
diving into water tanks on the larger ship wrecks
>How does she know how to pilot with such finesse that she can out maneuver highly trained Tie fighter pilots with ease?
Read the OP
>How does she know how to fix Falcon better than Han the first time shes on it despite not being a mechanic?
Read the OP
>How does she have Obi Wan level force powers despite no training?
Where is it said that it's "obi wan level"?
>How does she develop force powers exceeding Yoda after just one session of intense meditation with Luke?
Where is it said that she exceeds Yoda?
>How is she able to beat down the greatest Jedi master that ever lived with just a stick?
Luke is not the "greatest jedi master that ever lived"
>How is she able to defeat multiple Elite Praetorian guards despite no lightsabre training?
Constant practice during a childhood of having to fight to survive.

how many people do you find defending the retardation in the phantom menace? it sucked. nobody thinks anakin accidentally destroying a ship wasn't retarded.
we see luke training to use a lightsaber and the force. what does rey do? picks up a lightsaber and in 2 minutes is perfect with it, even though fighting with it would be completely different then how she fought with her staff. she also masters the force in one short training session and then at the end fucking lifts a giant pile of boulders with the force without even trying
that's pretty fucking stupid

>Constant practice during a childhood of having to fight to survive.
using a lightsaber is not the same as using any other weapon

It creates base aggression and physical instincts that applies to all fighting.

And besides, she's seen practicing with the lightsaber.

>And besides, she's seen practicing with the lightsaber.
for two minutes. she literally masters using the lightsaber in a single training session

Arguments about her being a Mary Sue aside, what are her flaws?

Anakin was flawed. He was a child who thought with his dick instead of with his head.
Luke was flawed. He had to go through training in Dagobah to become a better person.

What about Rey?

>masters

Did you see the fight with the guards? It was a hot mess that she didn't get away from without blood and injury.

You realize that the term comes from Star Trek fan fic, in which the female authors wrote a new female character into the show? Literally a self-insert?

You realize that "etymology" is different from "definition" right?

>arguing_with_holes.jpg

whats the point responding if you dont actually have any anything to say?

In TFA Rey could use jedi mind trick to control stormtrooper actions with no training when restrained. In ANH Jedi Master Obi Wan needed to use hand gestures just to convince a stormtrooper to let them pass

In TLJ Rey lifted an enitre landslide with ease despite only discovering the force 3 days before with no formal training
In AOTC 800 year old Jedi Master Yoda struggled with these rocks at the height of his power

Explain this

Sure does sound like something "The Chosen One" would be able to do, huh?

>Sure does sound like something "The Chosen One" would be able to do, huh?

You mean Anakin?
No he couldnt do any of these things with no training

>"You were the chosen one!"
>were

hmmmm

before you kill yourself, tell your bosses,
This was their doing.
Your excuse making for a terrible HORRENDOUS film blatantly shows what you are, sweetie.

She has no flaws
Its just a pure power fantasy now, Superman and Goku have more flaws than Rey

The dude who was trained for years and still was denied a rank of master because of his numerous flaws? You mean that guy? The guy that had his arm removed in his second appearance for overestimating his own skills? Anakin was the most flawed character of the entire saga, you really need to learn what a Mary Sue is, pinhead

see

>Be chosen one
>Most powerful force users cream their pants at the mere sight of you
>People knew and prepared for your coming thousands of years ago
>Somehow strange said guy was OP from the get go
>Still act like a shit on various occations
>Not presented as a holier than thou with preachy overtones
>Kills a bunch of fucking kids before they can tell on his boss to Chris Hansen

The only shitty thing about any of this is the akward acting and all the other things people for years have critizised the prequels for, but even then the movies had their moments. Rey is just a product placement for insecure women that needs a fictional character to justify their existance

>Did you see the fight with the guards? It was a hot mess that she didn't get away from without blood and injury.
hmm thats interesting because she actually won when she should have stood zero chance and ended up being the one saving kylo instead of the other way around

>The main character should get killed during the climatic fight of the film

I'm not sure you understand what storytelling is

well gee friend maybe she shouldn't have been written into a situation she should have had zero chance of winning

She should have lost an arm, it's a tradition in the 2nd movie

Are the guards trained to fight from birth?

Because Rey has been fighting for her life much longer than pretty much any one else in the film.

These things about rey were not in the film.
Also a major part about the mary sue archetype is how every character supports and agrees with them without question, not a single person contests rey aside from the main villain. This is not true about previous protagonists

Everyone likes or wants to protect Rey instantly. That alone makes her the Mary Sue of the story. She has no character depth to explain it.

Luke and Anakin lost hands and limbs in their first major lightsaber fights.
Luke barely had any training but Anakin was almost a knight yet still lost his arm.
Rey not only got away from her first lightsaber fight without any injury she won. Without any kind of training.
>and survived, against a man literally birthed by the Force, trained as both a Jedi AND a Sith, with about 25 years of combat experience under his belt, whereas Luke had had a lightsaber for about 3 years.

You mean his father took pity on his son and didn't kill him, only took his hand off.

People at the time and even for years after called out the whole Anakin droid ship thing as utter crap. Jake the actor got shit for fucking YEARS and he was only a kid.

Im not even going to read the whole thing. The difference between Rey and Anakin/Luke is that they had a special connection to the force which allowed them to do certain shit, Luke is Anakins son, Anakin was literally born from the force, so they are able to use it better than other people. Rey is nobody with no connections or anything and is just woke up one day as the strongest jedi thats ever been, its weak writing, nothing to do with feminism or hating women or some shit, its like a shrug when asked why a character is powerful, the answer is "no reason, they just are" and that isnt compelling from a narrative perspective at all. Subverting expectations alone is not enough to make a story different for fuck sake, you have to do something with that subversion
>you thought it was something
>WELL ITS ACTUALLY NOTHING, ISNT THAT EXCITING?! ISNT IT GREAT BECAUSE YOU DIDNT EXPECT THAT SO THAT MAKES IT INTERESTING!
I dont mind that other people can be jedi but its fucking lame from a story perspective when a character has all these powers and doesnt really have a reason for having them. Why Rey and not Finn, why not Chewbacca or Poe, shit, why not Rose, I mean weve just established you dont actually need to have a conncetion to the force to be good with it and have it aid you, so why is Rey the only one able to use it? This is a question that will never be answered because there is no actual reason.
>dont need a reason
Ok but that doesnt make it good writing, that makes it bad writing when things happen for no reason.

>Are the guards trained to fight from birth?
entirely possible
more importantly, its 100% certain they spent far more time using a lightsaber than rey did and also benefited from formal training either from a superior or with each other
rey had none of that

The guards don't use lightsabers, sooooo.....

Occasionally fighting some homeless people for some scrap does not prepare you to fight trained elite guards. Stop embarrassing yourself

oh you're right, they only used light beam weapons of varying ridiculousness
that of course changes everything

Just like occasionally shooting a rifle doesn't prepare you to take on the largest military in the world?

Get off your rocker, son, you've never even been in a fight.

Except Anakin was the chosen one and Luke, his son.
Who the fuck is Rey again?

>single combat is the same as war
you tried

But that's wrong?

>Just like occasionally shooting a rifle doesn't prepare you to take on the largest military in the world?

No it doesn't it actually requires CIA bootcamps

imagine being this retard

I don't care if she's mary sue or not. Her motivation is weak. Is she even a protagonist?

>Jedi are supposed to be realistic
>anakin couldnt build things because he was never a slave in a space jews workshop

So who is the final authority on what the correct definition is? You?

More so than you, fucko

lol, so your only objection to her being a Mary Sue i's the implications that it's only used to describe women?

Fuck your dumb.

>Fuck your dumb.

How ironic

Yeah. Desert superhobo starting her journey by freeing then following a lost soccer ball robot, to find pieces of a map that a jedi left behind because he wanted to disappear. Then she fights the comical space nazis because...well she fights them. Someone has to i guess. She has an interesting background, not being related to anything or anyone in any way and having no motivations. And character devellopment, from a bland superhobo to a bland super hobojedi.
Really, a great character and an appealing plot...

Ah Bloo Bloo!

Fat ugly slag Karen Kennedy shat her old lady depends at the box office.
Just gross old lady shit everywhere. And Rian Jonestown burying his face in it like Augustus Gloop greedily guzzling Wonka's chocolate river.

this is bait

Rey is a Mary Sue, the fact you're trying so hard to convince us otherwise is pretty tellling.

Pniously you're just gonna spam"not an argumment" for every response so , just realize that Rey is a mary sue, and the First Order shouldn't exist with the resources it has.

Also the fact that Rey Can use Jedi Mind tricks is further evidence upon a pile.

What do you hope to gain?

>not an argument.

Seriously though your only mad because of the implications of it being a woman only character description.. that is really dumb.

Really really dumb.

Really dumb.

Just wearing a flight helmet is training apparently?

yes, child anakin in ep1 was a gary stu. there is no one debating this. At least lucas realized the mistake and course corrected for 2&3

Luke was a pilot and hunter. Do you remember the first fight luke gets into? it's in the bar, and some murderer decides he's going to murder luke. Luke gets thrown across the room and Ben had to save him. Remember the first time Luke saw the jedi mind trick? Ben was using it on storm troopers. Remember luke using a lightsabre for the first time? He got his butt blasted by a droid. He spends the whole of a movie in jedi training getting mocked by a swamp puppet, then gets his hand chopped off by his own father.

Rey's first fight she takes down a dozen armed thugs. She then flies the Falcon better then Han ever did before; impresses Han Solo to the point he wants to take her as a partner, does the mind trick without seeing it before, using it to escape, and play with Ren's mind. And the first time she fights with a lightsabre she beats this series Darth Vader. And bonds with Leah in seconds. All in the first episode. In ep 2 of the new series, she beats Luke, and masters all Jedi techniques in one day; while Luke gets mocked by Yoda's ghost for being a worthless piece of shit..

Ugh, I give up. She's a fucking Mary Sue. If you can't see that I don't know what to tell you.

Nope, which makes it a movie all about how special Rian is as a director.

>Mah maehn charactah is dah best, no reason, just cool speshel effects
>Tuhn off yur brahn soh we geht moneh
>it'z art
>itzz progreesssve

Rey being, or not being, a mary sue is far from the last jedi's biggest problem.
>whedon-style out-of-element/character jokes/quips everywhere
>gives Taken 3 a run for its money with unnecessary cuts
>MULTIPLE side stories and characters which were not only not needed but also ultimately irrelevant
>ignoring the established science in a science fiction universe
>ignoring visual styling of an established universe
>ignoring established character development
>half-assed special effects
>half-assed continuity supervision
>just plain repeating all the things which were universally disliked about the prequels

Nobody gives a fuck about Rey being the best Jedi, just like nobody gives a fuck about the best tasting noodle in a bowl of shit soup.

All I know is she can't act, has a terrible accent that at times sounds like a non English person pretending to be English, and she attacked Luke pulling a lightsaber on him when she didn't instantly get what she wanted. She is fundamentally unlikeable. How is anyone supposed to root for her when she pulls a weapon on Luke? Fuck her, I only care about Kylo and Finn in this trilogy

>tfw first post is bad

:(

>>having a few talents having all talents and skills possible from the get go

quit crying, neckbeard

>THEY DON'T LIKE MY STRONK MARY SUE CHARACTER

only for Skywalkers

>How can she speak fluent Wookie?
>Same way everyone in the films can

Nobody in the films can apart from Han, who had been friends with one all his life it seems, and C-3PO, who is programmed for that shit. She also speaks Astromech to the point she doesn't just guess the rough meaning or read its messages off a screen like Luke, but can discern precisely what it tells to the point we get a one-sided conversation for their first meaning. The only time we get that in the movies is in ESB, where Luke's in the X-Wing, reading R2D2's message translated off a screen. Everywhere else, Luket talks to Artoo the way you would a dog.

>are the most elite guard in the New Order well trained compared to a junk scavenger kid?

Are you fucking kidding m8?

If people hate Try not because she's a mary sue but because she's a woman then why the fuck does the star wars fandom adore Leia or Ashoka or Mara Jade or Jaina Solo or Kreia? Don't give me that shit that its because she's the MC since people were wetting themselves for Rey to be Jaina Solo and for Mara made to be in The films. Which one isn't since if it's that the fandom is sexist, its a strange kind of sexist that loves strong cool female protagonists.

I don't have a single problem with anybody being a jedi, its not like we havent had comics, games and novels about soecifically that. Its that this is the SKYWALKER SAGA!! If rey isn't s skywalker then she shouldn't be in the main saga. Its as simple as that.

>REY IS THE MOST REALISTIC NEW JEDI THUS FAR
>New Jedi
>thus far

I see what you did there. The Last Jedi is also the best eighth officially endorsed episodic entry into the franchise post 2014.
