We have a lot more off topic threads compared to many other boards. Allowing adaptations may also be a problem.
Too many threads are posted about video games and live-action TV just because they have superheroes in them.
Of course, American comic books themselves aren't helping because they are essentially IP farms waiting to be adapted into other "legitimate" media.

Because non-Japanese animation is fairly limited, if we combine every non-Japanese countries animation industry we'll still have a fairly manageable board. Japan's animation industry on the other hand is absolutely fucking massive, with show after show being churned out faster than you can say "declining birth rate," if we had a general animation thread western cartoons would be almost permanently on page 6 or lower, if not 404'ing within a few minutes.
They were as on topic as the weebshit was. Quietly reporting threads does nothing but assure weebs will post again; they need to be shown that they aren't welcome.
