>a shitty horror movie with 10 million production budget is beating billion dollar franchise with the biggest movie marketing campaign of all time

>LITTY winter flick filled with RAUNCHY fun for the whole family
>some shit has-been series
tough choice!

Why is TLJ budget a secret?

Embarrassment

...

P

wait...they made ANOTHER Insidious?

>1.2 billion dollars so far

WOW WHAT A FLOP LOL

pissening

can i press 0 to open my mouth so daisy can pee inside?

holy shit, and TLJ is on over 1,000 more screens than insidious 4!!!

wait...they made ANOTHER Star Wars?

Who cares? They still made a shit-ton of money and are going to continue making this crap.

and will make yet another one at this point

>The production and marketing for Star Wars has to be at least 300 million
All that money and they couldn't hire a competent editor (Leia's force scene and the casino planet) or writers well-versed in the lore (Yoda summoning lighting).

This movie was expected to have a budget between $300–500 million as they expected it to be a $2b film.

I don't think you realize how megacorps work. This is a disaster for the whole Star Wars brand. The next one could be cancelled.

More like Darth Insidious

Episode 7; $2.066b
Episode 8; $1.2-1.3b
Episode 9; $800m

More like Darth InSNEEDious

Actually no, this is incredibly worrying for the brand image and actually is at risk of cancelling any movies past episode 9.

The Han Solo spin-off is actually rumored to be pushed back several months because they are now afraid it wont break even if released as planned in the next few months

No! This wasn't supposed to happen! The third weekenders were supposed to save it! It's literally the perfect time to see a movie! The energy is just right!

Fuck you, soyson, you manlet jewgoblin.
GTFO

>tfw if Ep 9 continues the same downward trend as Episode 8 it'd gross $600-400m

Disney better make this shit at minimum passable, or else they're going to be famous as a company that managed to grab one of the biggest guaranteed cash cows in the history of ever and STILL managed to fuck it up. If this happened it'd probably destroy Sup Forums.

ROCK BOTTOM! THE ROCK BOTTOM! 1...2...3...! CAN YOU SMELLLLL!

>someone still hasnt made a shop of the rock giving kathleen kennedy or daisy ridley a rock bottom yet

disappointing lads

wut dat

>Sup Forums is so desperate that they mock disney for making a shitload of money despite creating a shitty movie

bad look

Keyface>Snoke

F

Because the movie went through significant reshoots and Disney tried to hide this due to associated negative headlines it would generate (like with Justice League)
Knowing the final budget would give this away, im guessing the movie was $250m at the very least

Cheap, shitty interchangeable cliché haunted house horror movies are like the biggest normie magnet when it comes to cinema right now, second only to capeshit. Insidious, Annabelle, The Conjuring, all that shit prints money.

Extremly high budget + extremly high marketing. They easily spent about 800 milion on this film.
The 1.1 billion theh have now is unacceptable

newfag

I think he’s talking about the new meme where wojak gets sucked into someone’s ass while that person dabs.

I think it was less then tfa

Based Rock wrecking Star Wars for what they did to Justice League

I wouldn't piss on Disney if it was on fire.

Which the box office for nuWars most definitely is not.

P

Star Wars is going to drop hard next week. The 4 week obligation Disney forced theaters into is still in effect. Theaters are going to drop Star Wars for Jumanji and Insidious next week.

>4 week obligation
literally every movie is double that

Spastic cunt

>1.2 billion and still has some 300-400 mil left in it
yeah I'm sure disney is crying on their bags of cash

What? Just to show the movie Disney made theaters dedicate their best screens to Star Wars for a month. So all of the competition is running at a disadvantage and are still beating Star Wars.

I have never seen a movie in theaters for less than 2 months

>Actually no, this is incredibly worrying for the brand image and actually is at risk of cancelling any movies past episode 9.
this is what whiny manchildren actually believe
>The Han Solo spin-off is actually rumored to be pushed back several months
every SW movie since 7 was announced for may and then pushed back to December, it's going to be a surprise if it isn't going to be pushed to December

BEST SCREENS obligation

not just being on theaters until everybody stops trickling in

even before this weekend Jumanji was grossing more daily than TLJ despite being in less screens, you can see what screens were more packed

i.imgur.com/lkjtiAI.png
>its not gonna hit 1.2billion
>Sup Forums 2 weeks ago

I suppose were not suppose to mention this right?

nobody really cares since the other crowd lying through their teeth daily about TLJ grossing 1 billion in 2 weeks earns no sympathy either

Is Sup Forums a hivemind? Literally anyone can post here. For all we know, you posted that two weeks ago and are now trying to use it against the board.

...

>but Empire Strikes back made more money than A New Hope

> 23 mil over the entire weekend
> still has another 300 - 400

You're a funny guy

...

>but A New Hope only made more due to having more re-releases

Yes, and?

Wrong.

>It replaced Jaws as the highest-earning film in North America just six months into release,[147] eventually earning over $220 million during its initial theatrical run

>Reissues in 1978, 1979, 1981, and 1982 brought its cumulative gross in Canada and the U.S. to $323 million
>Reissues in 1978, 1979, 1981, and 1982 brought its cumulative gross in Canada and the U.S. to $323 million
>Reissues in 1978, 1979, 1981, and 1982 brought its cumulative gross in Canada and the U.S. to $323 million

I went to my local theater the other day (18 screens, so its far from tiny), and TLJ got BTFO'd by Jumanji as far as what was showing on their largest screens. It was a glorious sight.

Use a colon m8

it went into the week with about 1billion and ended at 1.2 worldwide, this will be in theaters for at least another month and will easily pull and extra 300

I'm surprised it already hit 1.2 billion, how does this turd still have legs? I'm guessing it will make between 1.3-1.4 billion total, which is still bad and way below Disney's lowest expectations, but half a billion more than what it deserved to gross.

Empire Strikes Back still likely didn't reach the same gross as A New Hope during it's initial release according to Box Office Mojo. Look at it's weekly total according to Box Office Mojo. Empire Strikes Back was at 141 million in August and made 7 million in August 8-14. It would be unlikely that if it was kept in theaters continuously after that, that it would reach 200 million if following the pattern of decline in gross before that August week unless it was kept in theaters for extremely long. By my estimations, if it declined like ANH weekly grosses on BOM after August 14th and left in theaters for about as long as ANH; but it was adjusted for how it was making less each week than ANH by August 14th; it would increase in gross by $27,019,666 to reach $168,592,373.

Box Office Mojo cuts off there, but if Box Office Mojo is actually including re-releases in an accurate ANH 307 million listing and it's weekly BOM's weekly numbers for ESB are accurate, then BOM is likely including re-releases of ESB prior to 1982 in an accurate 209 million listing for ESB.

Either way ESB made less money for the two listings on BOM without adjusting for inflation and population growth of audiences.

>Insidious 4

What? There were three of these? Also when will that LITTY romp-stomp PISS comedy be out? I'm wondering how disappointing its most likely going to be.

You're an idiot. It started the week at $1.04b and just made $1.2b with CHINA DEBUT and HOLIDAYS

Holidays are now over and it's going to tank in China after its opening weekend, so it's not going to make anywhere near $1.5b. This time next week it'll be at $1.26b tops.

There were no re-releases for Empire prior to its 1997 special edition re-release, you fool. The gross in its initial theatrical run is right there: $209m.

IF YA SMEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELL

Sequels always made less than the initial film back then and the term "sequel" was even viewed as a dirty word. Irvin Kershner originally rejected Lucas' offer to direct the sequel to Star Wars for that reason. So it's mind blowing that TESB and ROTJ did so well. You have to keep things in their historical context. These days sequels routinely make more money than the earlier films.

A movie a year is a bad idea. They tried to follow the Marvel variety route with the justification that "every other year is a different concept/cast so that means it's varied". I think because of how fast and how successfully Star Wars became a pop culture icon, any new movies were and are supposed to be seen as a special event. "Our turn to see Star Wars at a midnight premiere", that sort of thing.

A new one every year just makes them like every other blockbuster and only pretty decent at that.

>B-but it subverts expectations!

s

It wouldn't matter if they set the movies in different times rather than setting then all around the OT. Where's my Old Republic movie?

>whole point of acquiring star wars was to make money off of merchandising

>cast a fucking woman as the MC
>nigger side character
>new merchandise isn't selling at all

Kek, how fucking incompetent. How can they know exactly what to do with Marvel but not with SW? Is it because the guys who actually run Marvel Comics are directly involved in the MCU at a high level?
