Well to be fair, the rabbit's mom is also pretty smart. Maybe only the girls get brains in their family? Also, there is a whole episode about Lisa dealing with the fact that she's going to grow up to be more like Homer. Lisa the Simpson, I think it's called. She was just generally more human and flawed in the past season.

Have the little girl think she's smart, but either get consistently get proven wrong, or have her father try to make her right, so that then you get this interesting dynamic where, when she gets something wrong and the family calls her out for it, she has to assure her confidence in her abilities to not only the family, but to herself, both fleshing her out as a character, and providing great American humor because nobody likes a smartass.

It's important not to abuse her, just have her ideas fall short, as kids ideas often do. Her heart is in the right place, but when you're a kid learning things quickly, and actually getting the concepts, you tend to develop a natural ego because of the heightened sense of worth. This doubles for girls; now they feel like they provide more than what they're supposed to.
