How come communists aren't depicted as evil in comics anymore?

How come communists aren't depicted as evil in comics anymore?

The cold war already ended, there are more relevant threats worth depicting

Then why are Nazis still a prominent villain if WW2 ended even longer ago?

because Communism fell so long ago, the current kids reading comics think it was cool.

WW2 is from a time where lines where clearly drawn and people knew who were the good guys and the bad guys.

Different in a post-Vietnam era where socialism became prominent; the attempt to contain the communist countries from expanding beyond their territory by the western powers was the focus of policy (and viceversa also); and colonialism and the oppression of minorities became subjects of international struggle.

because marvel lost its balls in the late 90's

Because the entertainment industry is full of communist-sympathisers, user. McCarthy was right.

Because it turned out they were right.

Oh boy, Sup Forums sure isn't gonna like this logical, well thought-out, well informed post.

Because the Cold War is over.

Nazi's have a reputation for efficiency and advanced technology. A hidden cell in South America/Antartica/Wherever is acceptable to readers.

The Soviet Union is considered a shambles whose only strength was massive numbers, so it isnt as "beliveable" a secret group could exist.

Correct answer. The US fucked over as many smaller countries in the Cold War as the USSR did.

>Nazi's have a reputation for efficiency and advanced technology.

A reputation based entirely in fantasy and fictional depictions of them.
Actual Nazis considered physics to be a bunch of Jewish lies invented by (((Einstein))) and (((Heisenberg))) and thought everything was made of ice.

>The Soviet Union is considered a shambles whose only strength was massive numbers

A reputation also based entirely in fantasy and American propaganda.

The KGB is literally in charge of Russia today.

Because fascism is a genuine threat right now, from both sides of the political aisle.
Collectivism, OTOH, is dying out as we speak, with all but every man for himself now.

Short Version - Because the Cold War is over, but there are still Nazis around to punch.

>The Soviet Union is considered a shambles whose only strength was massive numbers
>A reputation also based entirely in fantasy and American propaganda.

I'm sorry but how does that jive with Chernobyl?

Hell, the AK-47, THE soviet military firearm, is a very simple design noted primarily for its rugged durability more than its technological advancement.

But I'm a product of the american education system. Please, enlighten me on this one.

Nazis are a meme, they will never stop being relevant

Because they arent a clear cut enough of a villain and the public is far more aware of the evil bullshit the US has done fighting them.

Fags

only relevant communist "threat" in the modern world is North Korea and let's be honest, they're just trying to act tough because they know they're a bunch of shitty fucks. They could never lead an attack on western governments. They have a military budget of like 6 bucks and a box of lightbulbs. They'll never do that missile strike they've been threatening.

Marvel is too busy bashing white heterosexuals to waste time hating on communists or nazis

When was the last time, Remender's Punisher?

Deadpool used North Korea, if that counts.

North Korea is used as a villain in fiction not because it's Communist, but because it's so isolationist that it won't ever know about it, so you can use them as the evil foreign menace and they won't get mad at you for it.

they had a man in the space first

True, but as time pressed on, they lost their infrastructure.

...

Because we've come to terms with some countries that are technically communist/socialist. During the Cold War, we used to spend billions of dollars on the arms race, and we thought that sending troops into countries to protect them from communism was a good thing. Instead, we got caught up in what was basically a civil war (Vietnam). Then, after Pol Pot went crazy in Cambodia and killed millions of his own people, our ex-enemy, commie Vietnam marched in and put a stop to the genocide. The demarcation line between good commie and evil commie became fuzzy. Mao died, Chou En-Lai and Deng Xiao Ping modernized China and opened up trade with the West. They outnumber us 4 to 1 in population, so at least now we're not going to bed worried that China is going to invade us. Instead, they make all of our computers, refrigerators, toys and most of our consumer goods.

Unlike Nazis, which are black and white, Commies are in shades of gray. We don't necessarily want to go commie ourselves, but it is true that many commie countries had made large strides in universal education, sanitation, population control, women's equality, universal healthcare- things that they could not have accomplished under emperors, or unfettered capitalism.
