Extreme Ghostbusters

What is Sup Forums thoughts on this show? I enjoyed it, maybe a little bit more than The Real Ghostbusters (nostalgia could be playing a part in that). Recently watched it again and I still like it.

I wished they used Extreme Ghostbusters as the template for the new film instead of what we did get.

How so? What would you do to make that work?

This. Imagine a 90s cartoon being a more progressive Ghostbusters than a Hollywood production made two decades later

Be better than just repackaging the old movie and just switch genders.

This. It does everything those inclusive freaks demand and it's amazing into the bargain.

Alright then, would you have it live action or an animated movie?

>a million times more progressive in it's casting than any modern show
>somehow a million times better than modern progressive shows

how the fuck did they do it?

It was the 90's, diverse kids groups were all the rage (really the main characters were college age), just look at the Burger Kings Kids Club.

By actually treating the characters as actual people and not PC caricatures. The wheelchair guy never moped about being disabled; he kicked ass and was sometimes a snarky asshole. The Hispanic dude was chill as fuck, the Goth Girl has a history with the supernatural in her childhood which is why she's a Ghostbuster, and the black guy was a rational mind since he was the mechanic.

It also helps that Egon, Janine, and Slimer were around to help mentor the new Ghostbusters. Plus the threats were terrifying as fuck. They actually made a kid version of Hellraiser's Cenobites and aired it!

Despite the terrifying monsters, my young niece loved the show when we watched some episodes.

Yeah, it's kinda funny how this style of Captain Planet variety is dead today. The late 80's to the late 90's had cartoons and other media that stressed that kids from diverse backgrounds can come together and kick ass. The original Ghostwriter series is probably the best live-action example of this.

set in the same universe, just 20-30 years later and the ghost busting business dried up until PLOT HAPPENS
make Kylie the lead for that SJW /liberal/goth fetish street cred
DON'T ATTACK THE FANS
get a real director
don't waste millions on a pointless dance scene that's shot on location

the characters were actual characters and weren't defined by their traits like bad stereotypes. Rowan wasn't saying Yo and listening to rap. Garrett was an asshole and didn't get a pass on it because he was in a wheel chair.

...

Exactly. The show was just as good if not better than the 80's cartoon. It didn't talk down to kids and it was awesome as fuck.

probably the one time i considered myself a fan of ghostbusters.

i remember i used to watch the original cartoon and was boring as shit. This however felt so fucking cool and fresh, its just what i wanted to watched and got me into ghost stuff.

it was the right amount of spooky shit, jokes and badassery, yet it felt pretty fucking dark anyways.

Please no one ever try to revive this masterpiece it was just perfect.

Pretty much. What made EGB work was that it BUILT off the old series instead of just using the title.

You'd have a diverse cast of new busters that despite looking the Burger King kids club felt like genuine characters with diversity as a coincidence rather than an intent and strong ties to the original series

My plan would use the template EGB set up as well as take some stuff from the IDW book.

Business dries up so everyone goes their own ways. Ray stays behind to manage the containment unit and run his book store and acts as the new mentor (RIP Harold Ramis)

Shit starts picking back up though when someone accidentally unleashes an ancient evil so Ray unable to find Peter and the others (No mention of Egon) decides to bring in some new blood.

Kylie was his book store employee here and she's the first to show up and decides to bring in some of her friends from school bringing in Eddie and Roland. (I won't be using Garret)

We get a training montage of Ray explaining shit to the new recruits (and audience) they're first real case (which may or may not be in the hotel) where the team gains some confidence. Que busting montage and a slow down in the middle to set up some relationships, possible romance etc. All througought Ray keeps noticing weirder and weirder shit and is becoming more withdrawn to investigate it and just as he's making a break through he gets possessed (Dammit Ray) and helps free the villain.

the new gang now distraught get completely wrecked without Ray telling them what to do and start moping in the city where they run into Bill Murry who doesn't introduce himself but explains how the Ghostbusters messed up a lot but always won because they didn't give up even if they really wanted to.

The new team goes over Ray's notes and Kylie figures out what they're up against, we have the big showdown and the gang saves Ray and the city.

Roll credits.

In a post credits scene Ray and Peter have a talk about the way the new team is going where Ray asks him to come back but he tells him the futures in good hands and that he's happy with Dana and Oscar.

In an age all about diversity, wonder why cartoons don't embrace it?

because these days diversity doesn't mean diversity. It means gay.

I really liked that horror elements were played straight.

Best outro to a cartoon ever.
Even after they added rock music to it to make it less scary.

And if you don't have them act like a racist caricature then they aren't authentic or something.

Sad really. I don't want a black guy who likes rap and is very obviously black. Just give me an actually character who is not determine by his skin tone and sexuality (now that stuff can play a part in certain plots by that shouldn't be the only thing that comes to people's mind when they see said character).

Put more emphasis on the "horror" part of Ghostbusters' trademark "comedy horror", but damn did it do it well.

...

Man, talk about a tease. I would have really loved to see Samhain in the show proper and not just a quick few seconds in the intro

...

Oh yeah, I forgot this was on Toon Disney. I remember watching it on some other channel, I also remember that I had that one episode involving the Siren and Banshee recorded on VHS.
>God I miss my VHS Tapes and Player.

this show got pretty hardcore didn't it.

There's a mega floating around with Hulu rips

it's great to not have to see the toon disney logo or hercules

>Rowan

It's Roland, Rowan was the villain from the fem ghostbusters movie.

I hated Garrett, and missed Peter and the boys. But overall it was pretty good.

And they finally advanced the Egon / Janine thing.

Just copy-paste most everything:

You got the Black Guy in a surprisingly non-token role.
You got a cripple.
You got a Latino.
You got a Goth Grrl.
All are teenagers.

Aside from Egon, Janine and Slimer, the team ticks off one majorly good box, which is the primary cast is Teenagers. That right there is a guaranteed cash cow opportunity right there if you keep the stuff to a PG rating.

Do you think they would tone down the ghost designs or maybe push it a bit more?

The intro was top-tier

Great followup to The Real Ghostbusters

Got the dozen-of-Janines compilation?

You probably saw it on the UPN kids block, i remember they also had Captain Simian and Jumanji

Yes, that's the one! Man, looking back, a lot of channels tried their hand at having cartoon blocks for kids.

...

This is fucking Sup Forums. Why did you even ask this?

By remembering that they're first telling a story and not creating icons for a cultural revolution.

Garret has more personality and more meaningful flaws, both related to and unrelated to his disability than the last 5 quirky female marvel comic leads combined.

>dat Kylie
MUH DIK

Because the original was live action, that's why. I would love an animated movie but you can't ignore the roots.

I like the explanation for the ghosts being more creepy than they were on the original show, basically they were like a second generation of ghosts or came from an even more evil main entity

The reboot sucked ass but " PC caricatures" is total horseshit. There was nothing like that in the new movie, that's your own very weird and unsupported/triggered bias.

The porn that zone did was great. It will never be as good as the "original" ghostbusters.

They had a gorilla, instantly better.

Best question.

>By remembering to tell a story

Best answer.

I've got the DVD but no DVD player.

>They had a gorilla, instantly better.

The 2016 Ghostbusters had a gorilla too, though.

...

Alright then, favorite episodes? I did enjoy the one with the clowns that come after you if you laugh and Ed turning into one spooked me as a kid.
