Do you think Steven universe would be a good show if it had actual writers?
Do you think Steven universe would be a good show if it had actual writers?
I think it would be better, but not great because it's message and moral are still gay as fuck and would rarely ever lead to Rad action scenes.
I think the premise is kind of dumb desu, so I'd still say no.
I dunno, would a book be good with no words?
Picture books exist so yes
>dumb premise
Can you explain?
It would be better with a writing staff, but I'm biased, screenwriting's what I want to do.
Nothing can save the show from its hideous character designs
>Using Uncle Grandpa and Amethyst Mental Abuse episodes as representative of the series
Well, that's a bit of a clash in tones.
Honestly, I think it'd be percieved better if it aired normally. Or we at least had a schedule for this.
A lot of stuff peters out simply because fans don't know when to tune in. Abridged series, Marble Hornets and all the associated ARGs, trying to find Brooklyn 99 on E4 until recently etc.
That basically leaves autists on either side of the fence who'll bash it or defend it, simply because, and not anyone who occasionally watch it to unwind.
That being said, I'm a sucker for a lot of the tropes in the show
>strong, silent mentor/parent figure actually has crippling weakness
>overprotective mentor/parent figure not originally fond of tutee
>sibling like mentor/figure
>Goofy character turns out to be best source of wisdom/pragmatism by adjusting the levity of the situation when necessary
>Crazy character who predicts future events
>Chekhov's minigun
so I might be biased.
Honestly I have more problems with the animation. Huge inconsistancies between character heights and sizes (I get they don't follow a height chart to allow for more fluid expression and shit but i think that was SU teamspeak for "we're all kinda hacks."
Yes, and if my uncle was a woman he would be my aunt
bottom is hotter than top
Having real writers would also mean that the show could have dedicated storyboarders instead of the writer-storyboarder hybrids we have now. That would mean they'd get hired based on their skill as storyboarders rather than being able to do both at a decent level, so there'd be way more consistency overall.
They were hired as borders first as well. See: Zuke who has no writing credits before SU
>Well, that's a bit of a clash in tones.
Honestly that's what a lot of episodes feel like. For example On the Run where it starts off as a good comedy episode then takes a turn into nonsensical drama out of nowhere.
Sure. It started off promising enough.
Yes, it would add a much needed focus, the only thing in common with all the episodes is steven himself but its such a string thin thread that conects them that the gem stuff and the human stuff might as well be 2 diferent shows
>But what about the recent episodes where that happens
Its a thing that should've happen somewhere on the 50 episodes mark, you know, when shit went down and the ocean was gone or when a spaceship crashed into the beach and they had to evacuate the town? not the 150+ were they needed to be literally being kidnaped to acknowledge their existence and even then we have to what will come out of that, i don't think they will come back to normal people adventures any more, but its a thing that should've stop (Or at least contained) after season 1
I don't know how you could say it was nonsensical as it simply introduced a backstory.
Because it came out of nowhere and made no sense
Don't see how it didn't make sense unless you don't watch the show.
I think he means Amythest's sudden angst "I wanna Go home" tantrum when she had been able to suppress her feelings so far.
I think the voice acting/dialog in the new episodes has been terrible. It doesn't even sound like conversations real people would have any more, and Steven is so high-pitched and whiny that it's hard to listen to.
But.. It is a good show?
Of course, it would be even better with writers.
She was bothered by Garnet and Pearl's story about how Homeworld's making gems damaged the Earth, making her feel partially responsible. Don't know how you couldn't figure that out on your own.
It would be a good show if it got actual writers and also if they actually had consistent character proportions instead of having characters become stubby-limbed midgets or literally change their height from scene to scene.
Because it makes no sense for her to sperg out at her like that especially when they talked about Homeworld before
but, they hadn't really?
ocean gem indicated that gems came from space but it's only after peridot shows up that they talk at all about where gems came from or why they're here now, at least for as long as steven's been there
Not the way they did then badmouthing the place she used to call home.
>Not the way they did then badmouthing the place she used to call home.
How did she badmouth it?
...
She called it a horrible place.
Quote?
Steven Universe is buttholes.
"Steven, I'm sorry. I never wanted you to see this horrible place."
She never considered the kindergarten to be home and that was after the fact
Yeah, she did. Before Rose found her.
p-prove it
Anything can be quality if the writers are good. The more idiotic/pathetic a concept the better the writer needed.
Rewatch the episode and her scene in Buddy's Book as they both show Amethyst's care for the kindergarten since you clearly have a poor memory of the show.
No, it needs an actual producer, to enforce more consistency, eg. holding the show more strictly to it's 'Action/adventure coming-of-age story.' genre (and also characters 'voices', characters personalities, characters skills/abilities and general level of competency, etc.)
Yeah replacing the writers/boarders would help a lot.
Some of the voice actors too. I actually think a lot of the voice actors performances are pretty weak. It seems like Sugar prioritized their singing ability to their ability to act.
I find Steven's voice whiny and annoying. Those aren't good characteristics for a main character(except if they're funny, which Steven isn't).
