I know nothing about comics or the situation with marvel, but why aren't the xmen going to be in the new marvel vs capcom? one of my friends told me it was because disney won't allow the xmen in the game since they sold the xmen movie rights to fox and won't "raise awareness" for the xmen just to spite them?
is this true?
one of the guys responsible for the game even hilariously said "you don't even remember the xmen" and that "all fighting game characters are just functions, people only liked magneto because of his 8 way dash and not the character"
>one of my friends told me it was because disney won't allow the xmen in the game since they sold the xmen movie rights to fox and won't "raise awareness" for the xmen just to spite them? >is this true?
Yes.
Jace Nelson
You do realize that this is made by Capcom, a Japanese company, don't you? Marvel characters(other than maybe Spider-Man, who is halfway popularish there) have always been functional.
Jeremiah Sanchez
Welcome to modern Marvel, where they tried to replace the popular X-Men with the literally who Inhumans. Then expected us to root for the Inhumans when they literally started to /gas/ mutants to death.
Kayden Davis
It's not Disney It's Ike Perlmutter's fault. He's the CEO of Marvel Entertainment It's not MCU shilling (he doesn't have control over the MCU anymore because Feige and Disney saw him as a nuisance) The guy hates Fox and has been having an embargo on F4 and X-Men characters in merchandise, television, and video games for the past few years. There's a mobile game with Gwenpool but no Deadpool Spider-Man's Bag-Man costume got its 4 removed in a mobile game A developer of a Facebook game said that there's no X-Men because they weren't given permission However this embargo on X-Men seems to be dying off a bit with X-Men appearing on a mobile game recently and are appearing in Marvel Heroes Omega. Fantastic Four have been getting a worse treatment when they and Silver Surfer were flat out taken away for availability in an MMO.
Don't blame Fox Don't blame Disney Don't blame the MCU Blame this asshole for no X-Men and no F4
He's notoriously stingy and petty. He tried to ruin a man's life over tennis
Juan Mitchell
>other than maybe Spider-Man, who is halfway popularish there
>halfway
Spider-Man is fucking huge there. He's the go to super hero over there, more so than Superman.
Thomas Cruz
>I know nothing about comics or the situation with marvel, but why aren't the xmen going to be in the new marvel vs capcom? one of my friends told me it was because disney won't allow the xmen in the game since they sold the xmen movie rights to fox and won't "raise awareness" for the xmen just to spite them?
And you friend would be right, marvel just relaunched the x-men comics with the pretext that they would be more centric in the marvel universe but that it in the comics, recently there has been a surge of x-men merchandise (funko pops, they being in some mobile games, toys) but that is a niche market, when it come to more important stuff like tv shows or console/pc games they wont be promote.
William Russell
MvC isn't played in japan and is pretty much a western only fighting game. Capcom makes it for the western audience.
Also disney forced them to remove mvc2 and mvc3 from every online store and didn't even allow them to patch mvc3. So it's not unfathomable.
Ryder Johnson
Would it be better or worse if this wasn't so much against X-Men as it was to shill MCU? The only nonMCU Marvel character I recall is Rich and even then Nova corps are in the movies albeit as mall cops. So what if there's no x-embargo but a nonmcuembargo?
Angel Bell
Yeah, but they have their own kind of super heroes over there.
Saying Spider-Man is legit huge in Japan would be like saying Godzilla is legit huge in America. As far as Japanese things go it might be extremely mainstream, but that still only rises it up to "halfway popular-ish" compared to other things.
Jason Green
Also, his petty grudge against Fox is pure spite over movie rights when Feige himself doesn't mind. Perlmutter tore a Fantastic Four poster at HQ out of frustration over said rights.
I hope this answered your question OP
Isaac Myers
Superduperheros
Liam Garcia
>Perlmutter tore a Fantastic Four poster at HQ out of frustration over said rights. this dude sounds like a manchild.
I'm a fighting game player, I don't really read comics but I thought the xmen were pretty cool characters. Very memorable and I had fun playing them. So fucking bummed they're taking them out because of this petulant executive's grudge.
Anything else this idiot did to you guys' comic books?
Levi Gonzalez
Your friend told you the truth.
MvC:I is LITERALLY an advertisement for Marvel Studios. That's why not even the Netflix characters are in the game. It's why the Capcom characters were made ugly on purpose.
Christian Rivera
He tried to replace the X-Men with Inhumans but in the process took away what made them unique and turned them into diet X-Men. In fact he was so into the ideas of using Inhumans to replace X-Men that he bugged Feige into making an Inhumans movie. When Perlmutter got kicked out, the Inhumans movie became a tv show (tv shows still report to him, films are no longer the case).
Adrian Allen
Another thing about the embargo. This is a 2007 poster of Marvel's characters
Michael Perez
And this is a 2013 poster Notice something?
Jack Ortiz
tokusatsu 2d fighting game when?
Mason Carter
>Inhumans literally who
are these a bunch of not-xmen that the artists made to not trigger the spergrage of this perlmutter guy?
Colton Nguyen
Marvel is just straight up garbage, literally the worst crap ever written in any medium. But that has nothing to do with the corporate execs. and everything to do with the writers and editors.
Chase Richardson
Don't forget he is also a friend of Trump.
Henry Howard
>Miles Morales up front.
This Bendis OC needs to sit his ass down.
Brandon Scott
he had nothing to do with that
supporting characters from the fantastic four comics in the 60s
marvel tried to turn them into a x-men style team and absolutely no one cared
Luke King
There's some cute dogs on the new poster. Seems like an improvement.
Adrian Gonzalez
I doubt Trump has been whispering in his ear about how he should get rid of the x-Men.
Owen Collins
It's from the Marvel comics division, not from Disney.
James Lewis
Not true. They both are supporters of the same charity and ike attended a fundraiser for that charity that was hosted by Trump.
Daniel Carter
That to me just confirms that Marvel's diversity push is phony and dishonest.
Chase Miller
They're a bunch of superpowered individuals from the moon and were made in the 60's (the old ones that is) They've actually had some pretty good stories but having them turn into diet X-Men ruined the appeal
Grayson Bailey
>Saying Spider-Man is legit huge in Japan would be like saying Godzilla is legit huge in America. As far as Japanese things go it might be extremely mainstream, but that still only rises it up to "halfway popular-ish" compared to other things. He's literally the star of the first ever Toku show. His merch sells really, really well over there.
Justin Price
see: ike is a democrat who supported hillary/bill in the 90s and obama during his years
Camden Collins
>actual fighting game players >caring about mvci
well now I've seen everything
Tyler Jackson
Huh? The MvC series is fucking huge to the FGC.
Oliver Perez
it's going to be shit of course, but what else is there
Tyler Peterson
Yeah but no-one cares about this game because it's clearly a dumpster fire.
Just hold on for Dragon Ball FighterZ like everyone else.
Luke Peterson
Going by arcade income charts, the MvC series pretty popular darn popular in Japan too. It just never had the dedicated, hardcore competitive scene there that it had here.
Thomas Taylor
>the first ever Toku show
This is completely untrue. He was the star of the first Toku show published by Toei to include a giant mech. Is he important for the history of tokusatsu? Yes, but not the originator of the genre by ANY means.
John Gomez
>like everyone else. kek. We all know how this is going to play out. People will buy MvCI, saying they're waiting for Dragonball, then MvCI will end up being the go to fighting game since everyone else is already playing it.
Gavin Jackson
He tried to screwover Stan Lee He failed miserably
Gavin Morales
But since Ike still wants to feel like a big boy movie producers, they filmed the pilot with IMAX cameras so that they can show it in IMAX theaters
Angel Gray
So you're excited for the sequel in 2018 right this really isn't Sup Forums material but I agree with everything you've said
Charles Edwards
you sound autistic bro
Jackson Torres
>"saving" money by reusing paperclips >complaining about 30 dollars being spent >literally charging employees for their work Literally Mr. Krabs tier.
Adam Murphy
>In 2008, only a few years ago, Marvel Entertainment was operating above a Mercedes-Benz dealership in Beverly Hills. Its CEO, Isaac "Ike" Perlmutter, was fretting so much about profit potential for the soon-to-be-released Iron Man movie that he wanted to serve only potato chips at the premiere.
>When staff moved from Manhattan Beach to the Disney lot in Burbank, a source says Perlmutter declined to upgrade the company's worn furniture because he did not want to change the culture. "Disney owns Marvel, but Ike gets to control every budget and everything spent on marketing, down to the penny," says a studio insider.
>Perlmutter once complained that journalists at a junket were allowed two sodas each instead of one, and Disney ran out of food at an Avengers media event because of Perlmutter's constraints, causing reporters to pilfer from Universal's nearby suite for The Five-Year Engagement.
But wait, there's more >It’s a really sad place to work despite being regarded publicly amongst the most high energy brands in the world. I’ve never met a more dejected, down trodden group in my entire career. Full of underpaid staff who’ve worked there so long I’m convinced they either can’t get another job and/or are obsessed with comics as evidenced by the stampede whenever there’s an internal sale full of leftover product that nobody wanted to buy at Disney World. Ego’s run really high and boasts of working at Marvel for 30+ years(as if that’s something to be proud of) run rampant.
>One of the cheapest places I’ve ever worked despite Box office BILLIONS. Toilet paper is a privilege, the kitchen has no coffee, and the microwave belongs in a museum — it doesn’t even spin on the bottom. The noisy industrial water machine, complete with little clear cups like the drug test urine ones, is broken at least twice a month. Get used to seeing “Caution, Slippery floor” cones since they’ve yet to repair the leaky pipe underneath the kitchen sink. Everything is on its last leg.
>Extremely paranoid work environment. Your computer is handicapped from doing anything except your actual job. They blocked the internet once, in general, for “security reasons”. They also send test spam e-mails to try and trick employees into clicking spam links only to reprimand anyone who may have accidentally fallen for it. Company wide e-mails were sent saying anyone who failed the spam exam would be “targeted”, though thankfully we never found out what that actually meant. Also if a celebrity happens to walk around the office, don’t look them directly in the eye or engage them in any way — people have gotten fired for doing so.
But it's true. Fox also holds merchandising rights for the characters which is one of the major reason he's so butthurt over it.
Parker Walker
They only have film rights The reason why there hasn't been that much X-Men merchandise lately is because of how Perlmutter holds them
Matthew Johnson
Your friend is partly right, it's not neccesarily Disney but actually more likely Ike Perlmutter, who's been running Marvel before the Disney buyout and is known for petty moves. Read Marvel: The Untold Story about him getting so pissed off at Stan Lee that Ike ordered Marvel to remove the "Stan Lee Presents" masthead from comics.
Nathaniel Edwards
user Sue is on the 2007 version
Nolan Myers
I think that was a 2015 poster
Cameron Anderson

That matches up with the reviews of Marvel Entertainment on Glassdoor.
I believe they share those. so a cut would go to fox. ikes willing to cut his nose just to spite his face so I'm glad marvels going downhill.
Lincoln Morgan
>Fox also holds merchandising rights for the characters
No they don't. They just get a cut of the X-Men movie merchandise. Ike just wants to cut ALL X-Men merchandise because he doesn't want to promote the X-Men films in any way. Think about how he wanted to remove mentions of Stan Lee back like 16 or 17 years ago just because he was upset about Lee playing hardball.
Jordan Brooks
This. Corporate ownership of IPs was a mistake.
Nathan James
to be fair the only reason Super Sentai has Giant Robots is because Japanese Live Action Spider-Man did it first.
Jeremiah Nelson
Thought Capcom should just make Capcom vs Shonen if they couldnt get Marvel but after seeing DBZF, maybe Arc should just make a Shonen crossover game.
B-But Sup Forums told me Capcom were the bad guys...
Liam Howard
Marvel's worse
Asher Stewart
>DC's offices are bright, clean & colorful
>marvel's offices are dark, dingy & bland
between this and all of the bullshit with ike i'm surprised disney hasn't forced him out of marvel yet.
Wyatt James
if DC didn't already have neverrealm i'd really want to see a dragonball vs DC game by arc
Lucas Johnson
>that Halo elite plasma sword hanging on Geoff Johns' wall
Jose Hernandez
You haven't seen Axel Alonso's EiC office, it's the biggest but it's pretty sad compared to Geoff's or Didio's.
Xavier Hughes
Same shit like how most of this guys say, "Play Xrd" but dont fucking own it, and if they do they don't even play online because they are bonafide capcucks with no abare, and terrified of getting their throat ripped out by Satou Jr. for the rest of the forseeable future.
Adam Williams
honestly the state of the marvel offices alone should be a reason for disney to step in.
showing that off in a tour not only embarrasses marvel but also embarrasses disney as a whole
Dylan Anderson
>playing online even a 30 ping is two frames of latency, and that's if your netcode is perfect
Ian Gutierrez
>tfw I was up for a job at the DC Entertainment offices where i'd be coordinating on the various CW shows and didn't get it Feels so fucking bad man, especially after seeing this video.
Adrian Smith
I like how they don't have a picture for Ike
Adam Perez
So stop torrenting porn and get that ass beat, you bum.
Logan Powell
I'm honestly convinced that most FGC groupies lack the skill or IQ to play something that isn't a capcom fighter
Luke Green
I have a 60 ping at best Also I'm not going to learn animu faitingu until DBFZ comes out
Joseph Ross
>one of the guys responsible for the game even hilariously said "you don't even remember the xmen" and that "all fighting game characters are just functions, people only liked magneto because of his 8 way dash and not the character" Actually, those two things were said by two different people that are part of this game.
...wait, that's even worse.
Dylan Flores
Eh, no worries. Getting that far means you have some decent qualifications and are capable in working at similar places.
>their throat ripped out by Satou Jr. i wish satou played xrd
Kevin Gray
this type of shit is why you don't let tourneyfags design your games
did we learn nothing from playstation all stars or that faze clan shooter?
William Davis
Skullgirls is a really good game. People just dont play it much because this is the timeline when Melee won the Evo drive.
Parker Robinson
>Melee won the Evo drive
God damn it this still makes me fucking mad. It was only by a couple k too.
>smash is considered part of the fgc >all the old school games are dead >sfv is shit >function vs function 3 will be shit
GET ME OUT OF THIS TIMELINE AAAAAH
Joseph Brown
If they're just functions, why bother licensing characters in the first place?
Owen Brooks
But do YOU actually play it?
Austin Allen
Yes, but I'm in Korea right now, where no one plays any good video games at all.
Camden Jackson
but one of the best pvp videogames of all time is the national sport there.
