X-Men: Blue #7 PREVIEW

New Tian is not utopia after all. X-Brats are trying to change it. And Emma Frost is not happy about it

Writer: Bunn, Cullen
Artist: Velarde, Julian Lopez
Cover Artist: Adams, Arthur
SECRET EMPIRE TIE-IN! * How will our intrepid heroes react to this new world order? * Will MARVEL GIRL, CYCLOPS, ANGEL, ICEMAN and BEAST be overwhelmed by HYDRA? * I really hope not!

even with that jacket Art Adams found a way to make Jean's breasts huge.

Tits have shrunk since last cover. Fuck Disney

Has Cullen Bunn EVER written anything that was better than decidedly mediocre?

the guy with the weird arm and blue glasses...I know that guy...was he in the punisher video game? who is he?

Doesn't this contradict Zub's issue about Emma being in the shadows, so that even Beast didn't know that she was the force behind New Tian and that Xorn was just the puppet?
I might have missed a plot development though, I haven't paid close attention to the SE tie-ins

I thought beast was the leader of mutant nation or whatever. why is xorn in charge? ( and who exactly is xorn right now anyway?)

Skids finally came back from wherever the fuck she was.

>I thought beast was the leader of mutant nation or whatever
Ambassador and advisor to the king
>why is xorn in charge? ( and who exactly is xorn right now anyway?)
Steve Rogers wanted the face of New Tian to be a peaceful dude who would not try to stir revolt against Hydra. So, he made Xorn the puppet king, with Emma manipulating him with telepathy. And this is Shen Xorn, Xorneto's twin.

I like these 4 characters more than any current X-Men team. Even with "Xorn" being just a puppet of Emma whose identity we dont really know.

if Marvel wants to shock kill someone, I hope it is young Angel. He is a worthless boring character.

Cyclops is dead, so Teen Cyclops is justified.
The same goes for teen Jean.
Young and old beast are very different.
And I guess the two Icemans are interesting in comparing someone who came out of the closet almost in his 30s to someone who came out as a teen.

But young Angel is just an awful boring pointless character, especially when compared to Archangel.

he is a good solid writer with antiheroes like Sinestro or Magneto. I will get this for Emma, not for the 05.
It seems like she will kidnap Cyclops and make him experience some heavy stuff telepathically.

ok thanks!

Zub's oneshot contradicted what Spencer wrote in Secret Empire
Hydra's official position is that New Tian has no legal position and thus has no legitimacy
But in Zub's issue there were talks of official trade relations between Hydra America and New Tian.

Marvel editors man

This is Shen Xorn, the twin brother of the Xorn who attacked New York

Random and Skids. The one I dont know if the long pink hair one, unless she is a new (background) donut steel.

I dont think Emma can control someone with a black hole instead of a head, who is wearing a metal mask that covers his head completely.
Nobody could read Xorns mind in Morrisons run, not even Jean who was extra powerful for being a Phoenix host.

pic related is when Xorneto was rescued, he was commiting suicide turning his star brain into a black hole

ill storytime the rest just because
btw, after reading this, it seems clear to me Xorn being Magneto was not the original plan of Morrison, and that it was a later change of mind of him, perhaps due to being angry at Marvel editors, lashing out by ruinning Magneto.

Lorelei Travis

She was a mutant stripper

>>btw, after reading this, it seems clear to me Xorn being Magneto was not the original plan of Morrison, and that it was a later change of mind of him, perhaps due to being angry at Marvel editors, lashing out by ruinning Magneto.

That was my understanding as well.

It's Lorelei

He's done the 05 better than Bendis ever did.

So, can someone tell me why the Gold team is allowed to stay in Central Park? Why aren't them in a concentration camp, and that annoying Jew in a gas chamber?

Califfornia is autonomous and filled with all kinds of mutants.
Wow. It's just like Marvel authors draw inspiration from real life.

New York is one of places of resistance. Too many superheroes who oppose Hydra. Curently Hydra opened door to one of hell dimensions right above the NYC and global city fight happens with Doc Strange leading the defence.

You're welcome, friend
>I dont think Emma can control someone with a black hole instead of a head, who is wearing a metal mask that covers his head completely.
And I agree with you, man. Thing is, Bunn pretty much ignores what was previously established about Shen Xorn. He used to be "black hole in the head twin", now it looks like he has Xorneto's powerset and there was no explanation about how and why he has powers again (remember M-Day took his original powers away). So let's just say that there's a lot of bullshit involving the character that Marvel should properly explain, but probably never will.

>Just to catch everyone up, where has Emma Frost been hanging out before this issue?

Cullen Bunn: Emma has been in hiding since the events of [Inhumans Vs. X-Men]. But don’t think that means she’s been doing nothing. She has been very busy. She’s been building alliances and positioning herself to make some big moves. You’ll see some of that play out in the Secret Empire story. But we’re really going to be setting something really, really big up for Emma in the future. Ever since we revealed her return, I’ve been receiving messages asking me to immediately return Emma to her status as a hero. I understand the sentiment, but that’s not something I can do right away. Emma can’t just come back from where she was with the flip of a switch. She’s in a dark place right now, and if she comes back from it—that’s a big “if”—it will take time.

>Going off that, what’s compelling her to join the fray now?

Cullen Bunn: Emma is part of the “ruling council” of the new mutant homeland of New Tian, and she sincerely wants to see this new society succeed. But she’s still very angry—so angry—about everything that has happened of late. Sometimes when you’re full of rage, you lash out at everyone, including those closest to you.

>What will Ms. Frost bring to both X-MEN: BLUE and SECRET EMPIRE?

Cullen Bunn: In SECRET EMPIRE, Emma gives us a look at a world leader who has been deeply wounded. She wants what is right for her people, but she’s so hurt and angry that she is ruthless in her pursuit of her ideals. She’s an antagonist for the X-Men, without a doubt, because the X-Men simply cannot accept what she’s doing. She’s also—in my mind—a very tragic figure, because she has lost so much and she’s fallen so far.

>Do you have personal favorite aspects of her character that you enjoyed writing/exploring?

Cullen Bunn: Emma is proud and confident, and that’s always fun to write, but underneath is a great deal of pain that she is trying—unsuccessfully—to hide. That makes her a rewarding character to write. I am looking forward to exploring how she grows and changes for some time to come.

>What kinds of threats will she be facing and how are her powers well equipped to handle them?

Cullen Bunn: Emma can handle just about anything you throw at her. Initially, the threats she faces come from the X-Men as they make moves against her regime. But her biggest challenges in the future will be dealing with her own sense of loss without letting it drag her into madness. And she’s making some alliances that could be very, very dangerous for her in the future.

>Are there any more epic mutant returns in the cards?

Cullen Bunn: Oh, yes! We know about Emma and we know about Polaris. But even in the Secret Empire arc, there will be several other mutant returns. Some of the mutants that will be popping up will be changed in mysterious ways. These changes play into something big that we’ve already been building in X-MEN: BLUE and we’ll be exploring in future issues of the series.

>Teen Jean will also have her hands full in upcoming issues of X-Men Blue, as she and her team deal with the rise of Hydra as Steve Rogers’ Secret Empire. Can you talk about how she’ll react to that? What kind of emotional space will she be in when you pick up with her in X-Men Blue#7?

Going into Secret Empire, Jean is confused and upset and worried that nothing the X-Men do will help. We’re seeing a mutant homeland rising up, but one of the rulers of that homeland is Emma Frost, a woman Jean feels needs to be brought to justice. Emma has a ruthless way of dealing with dissenting voices that Jean (and the other X-Men) simply can’t abide. We start issue 7 right in the thick of things. I don’t waste a lot of time showing the “origins” of New Tian. I let readers know what has happened in the world, and we jump right into the action. The X-Men team is acting sort of like rebel forces against a hostile regime. This world is sort of like their Days of Futures Past.

>Can you leave us with some hints and teases about the type of action we’ll see in the Secret Empire arc that runs through X-Men: Blue #7-9, and then beyond into the late summer/early fall months?

Even though issues 7 though 9 are Secret Empire crossovers, there will be a few things happening in the arc that play into something big coming in the future. I’ve already planted some of the seeds of this bigger, crazier story. In this arc, you’ll start to see them sprout.

...

Thank God Emma's not in that ridiculous black BDSM outfit from the end of IvX.

What the fuck happened to Bunn? He used to do better stuff.

what a slut
